FO R E WO R D Now in its 32nd year, Western Visions continues to be one of the most exciting programs we offer at the National Museum of Wildlife Art of the United States. The opportunity to experience superlative wildlife art and engage with extraordinary living artists while contributing to the continued success of the Museum is unsurpassed, and we are thrilled that you’ve chosen to join us. We are so grateful for the contributions from the world-class artists whose paintings, prints, sculptures, and sketches are masterful examples of the wide range of styles and subjects to be found within the contemporary art world. It is our privilege to exhibit their work and offer it to our patrons in support of the Museum’s mission to “enrich and inspire appreciation and knowledge of humanity’s relationship with nature.” The ten days of events will be especially celebratory this year, as we commemorate the 25th anniversary of the opening of our permanent facility overlooking the National Elk Refuge, just two miles north of Jackson, Wyoming. Many of the artists participating in the Show & Sale have been in the permanent collection for all 25 of those wonderful years, if not for the entire 32 year history of the National Museum of Wildlife Art. Western Visions provides the occasion for artists, collectors, locals, and visitors alike to explore and appreciate the connectivity between people, wildlife, and art. There is no better place to reflect on the power of fine art to advocate for protecting the natural environment and its animal inhabitants. We express our gratitude to our committed Board of Trustees, staff, and volunteers for their continued donations of passion, time, and financial support. The success and longevity of Western Visions would not have been possible without their steadfast dedication. We offer special appreciation for our loyal Western Visions Committee: Jan Benz, Lynn Friess, Sue Simpson Gallagher, and Kavar Kerr. Finally, thank you for celebrating wildlife, fine art, and the National Museum of Wildlife Art with us during the Fall Arts Festival! Amy Goicoechea Director, Programs & Events

25 T H ANNIVERS ARY OF THE M US E UM BUI LDI N G 2019 marks the 25th year that the National Museum of Wildlife Art has resided in its current building two miles north of the Jackson town square on an east facing hillside overlooking the National Elk Refuge.

which improves energy efficiency and protects the collection. Aesthetic inspiration came, in part, from the ruins of Slains Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, which is perched on a cliff overlooking the North Sea.

In 1994, architects CW Fentress, JH Bradburn and Associates of Denver, CO along with Jacobsen Construction, completed an ambitious 51,000 square foot museum building. Their goal was to “create a permanent home for North America’s finest collection of wildlife art.” It was important to the architects and to Museum founders Bill and Joffa Kerr that the Museum building be in harmony with the site’s natural ecosystem. With this in mind, they chose natural materials such as rough stone, and reclaimed timber to define spaces that dissolve boundaries between indoors and outdoors. Much of the building is embedded in the butte

Over the past twenty-five years we have seen a variety of improvements. Idaho quartzite has replaced the original Arizona sandstone of the facade, and the outdoor Sculpture Trail has added intentional space for the acquisition of large sculpture. Inside, we have seen significant remodels of the restaurant, public restrooms, conference room, and Members Lounge. Twenty-five years after our grand opening celebration, this building is still beautifully protecting and showcasing our art collection and delighting visitors with a sense of surprise and discovery.

The 2019 Western Visions Show & Sale opens Friday, September 6 at 3 p.m. at the National Museum of Wildlife Art. Each person purchasing a ticket for the sale will receive a ballot book containing one ballot for each work in the exhibit. Each ballot book will have a unique number registered solely to the purchaser. Purchasers have until 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 12 for sketches and 7 p.m. on Friday, September 13 for paintings and sculptures to place their signed and numbered ballot into the boxes near the art they wish to purchase. At 8 p.m. on the 12th and 7 p.m. on the 13th, a salesperson will draw three names and post them on a large card near each work. The person whose name is posted first will have 30 minutes to accept or decline the purchase. If the first individual declines the work, the second name becomes eligible to purchase the art for the next 20 minutes. Finally, when those 20 minutes expire, the third name also becomes eligible to purchase the art for the next 10 minutes. For sculptures and prints with multiple castings and editions available, the first name drawn will receive the work on display. Additional names will be drawn for remaining editions available. Once the sale is confirmed, the seller will write SOLD on the large card. Payment 1. All art purchases require payment in full the night of the sale. 2. Patrons are encouraged to remain at the Museum until all sales are final. Unsold works will be available for purchase on Saturday, September 14 at 9 a.m. 3.
