In a dramatic session at the Magistrates Court of Walvis Bay, 56-yearold Sarel Mynhardt faced Magistrate John Liwoyo Sindano on Monday, charged with Attempted Murder in connection to the assault of a wellknown businessman. The accused, who appeared in court in custody, allegedly

attacked the 70-year-old victim with fists, leaving the complainant

in Windhoek. Prosecutor Victoria Ndapunikwa Shikesho presented a grave picture, stating, "it is a serious offence. We received a letter from the doctor. It is also the view of the Investigating Officer that bail should not be granted." Representing Mr Mynhardt, Lawyer Jo-Mari Koekemoer contested the opposition to bail, emphasising that the seriousness of the offence is not the sole determinant; public interest and flight risk also play a crucial role. “It is the public interest and whether the accused is a flight risk that matter. Accused Faces Trial Again

in the police investigation, finds himself back in court accused of fatally stabbing Desmond /Awarab in a dispute over shoes in November 2016. Despite being in hiding, Ruben was granted bail and ordered to report to the Rehoboth Police Station weekly. The case, previously dismissed due to a missing blood sample, resurfaces with new evidence obtained after exhumation. The victim's family, devastated by the initial setback, now sees hope for justice seven years later. Ruben /Awarab, the victim's father, reflects on the painful journey and calls for improved training for investigating officers to prevent future cases of negligence.
