calendar of events CASA Volunteer Service – CASA volunteers (court appointed special advocates) are ordinary people who have the opportunity to influence a foster child’s life across many significant and far-reaching life concerns such as medical care, academics, and enrichment activities. Individuals with a desire to help children and a willingness to commit themselves to a foster child in need of the unique one-on-one attention of a CASA volunteer. FRIDAY OCTOBER 1 Friday Storytime at the Museum – Fridays 10:30-11:45am. Museum staff and other guest readers share stories, rhymes and sing-alongs with children ages 2 to 5 years and their caregivers. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 2 Falun Dafa (Falun Gong) Meditation & Qigong – Sat & Sun through Oct. 6:50-8:50am. A self-cultivation practice based on the Buddha school of teachings, Falun Dafa consists of four standing qigong exercises (similar to tai chi) and a seated meditation. SUNDAY, OCTOBER 3 Paddle the Peninsula – Event enables residents to enjoy recreation in Newark Bay. Come and have a great time on the water with your family, friends, and neighbors. For safety reasons, kayakers must be at least 16 years of age. Participants may either bring their own kayaks or sign up to use ones provided at the event. Refreshments and light snacks will be provided. The boat launch is located on Newark Bay, west of Avenue A, and below the end of West 16th Street.
