DIMAPUR: Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR) would be held from November 2 to 5 at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi and as part of its activities under AMCDRR 2016, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) would be organising a nationwide painting competition for school children. NSDMA informed that the competition would be organised in two phases, state/ UT level and national level. In this regard, NSDMA has invited entries from students aged between 10-14 years under NBSE, ICSE or CBSE. Students may submit entries on either themes - 1) Disaster Vs Collective Strength or 2) Disaster Risk Management begins at home/school in A3 sheet paper size. The paintings submitted to NSDMA shall be screened by a committee and the best three paintings would be forwarded to NDMA for national level screening and competition. All the winning participants would receive cash prizes, certificate and a memento at the national level during the AMCDRR, 2016. ll such paintings must reach the NSDMA office Kohima by October 12 for onward submission to NDMA. Kma police, NRYO conduct raids Pike Central School: Pike Central School Sematilla students also observed Swatch Bharat Mission in Sematilla area. Chumukedima Hindu Yuva (CHY) participated in Swach Bharat Abhiyan in large number in collaboration with Chumukedima Hindu Society (CHS). Cleanliness drive was successfully conducted at Chumukedima town in the presence of head GB of Chumukedima. Youths of Chumukedima Hindu Yuva did their part with full enthusiasm and zeal.
DIMAPUR: In an effort to keep a check on sale of expired goods and illegal goods, the New Reserve Youth Organization (NRYO), Women cell and South P.S personnel on September 29 conducted surprise joint raid during which huge cache of assorted IMFL were reportedly seized from the possession of Yashpal Rawat (65), Jaya Nepali (44), Kamala Tamang (42) and Deka Chetri (33). According to SDPO (South) and PRO, Kohima Police, a regular case has been registered against the accused at South P.S for conducting further investigation.

Panchayat Day observed at Seluophe DIMAPUR: With the rest of the country, Panchayat Day (Gram Sabha) was observed today at Seluophe village under R.D. Block, Chumukedima. The programme was attended by Amit Srivastava, National Level Monitor from the ministry of Rural Development, officials of District Rural Development Agency, Dimapur led by project director, Alemla J. Chishi, officials of R.D. Block Chumukedima and village functionaries. Speaking on the occasion, Amit Srivastava, who also inspected various ongoing and completed projects under MGNREGS in the village, expressed satisfaction over the implementation of the schemes. Delivering the keynote address, Alemla J. Chishi spoke about the significance of the Panchayat Day besides highlighting the developmental changes that have taken place in the rural areas with the inception of MGNREGA in the country. DIMAPUR: Department of Sericulture conducted training on Eri silk weaving at Reeling and Twisting Unit, Dimapur from September 5-30 with weaver Maisodi as resource person and extension officer Mayangjala Walling, as training observer. At the inaugural pro-
gram, district sericulture officer Dimapur, Yashimeren welcomed the trainees and encouraged them to learn and perfect their weaving skills so they could use it to improve
their livelihood and also impart their knowledge to people back in their communities. Altogether four trainees from Tuensang attended the program.

DIMAPUR: Legal awareness campaign was organized by Dimapur District Legal Service Authority (DDLSA) and criminal justice fellowship program, Tata Institute of Social Sciences with the under trial prisoners of Dimapur Central Jail which was also attended by the prison officials and panel lawyers. At the programme, prisoners were made aware of their prisoner rights, arrested person rights, the legal aid and its schemes provided by the state. Advocates Esther, Zachariah, Zuchembeni were the speakers and Criminal Justice Fellow, Nikita gave the ending note by speaking on why prisoner rights are important. The programme was followed by interaction hour where prisoners spoke about their issues/grievances. Earlier, the programme was chaired by advocate Sentimenla.
A special team consisting of skilled personalities visited Thakurbari colony to make the residents aware on cleanliness and value of it and to keep their surrounding clean.
TUENSANG, OCT 2 (NPN): Eco - Club of Loyem Memorial High School Tuensang, observed the “World Wild Life Week” on October 1, by organizing a field trip, some 10-15 kms away from the main town. The main purpose of the trip was to familiarize and learn about the fauna of that particular region, about pollution caused by humans which polluted and disturbed the natural environment. More than 50 students participated in the trip. At the programme, the students were divided into 8 groups and were sent to study the natural habitat of that particular region. Teacher in-charge of the Eco Club,
Mono Khiamniungan stressed on the importance of species that too felt the same like the humans, as “we” continuously kill them, adding that one should stop hurting and killing animals. He also pointed out the species which were on the verge of extinction and urged the students that it was their duty particular to educate the masses of the society. Asst headmaster, Nurul Islam lauded the effort made by Eco Club under Mono Khiamniungan and wished all the participants that they had learned a great deal towards educating the mass in the society. Debashish Deb also lauded the sincere efforts made by the Club and thanked the teachers and the students who had participated in the trip.

Folklores of Peletkie village, traditional practices and customary laws of the village, talks on genesis of the village and peletkie salt spring as one of the mainstay of the village economy were presented by a panel of
social work in and around its campus on October 1 as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Around 150 members along with secretary, president of Thakurbari have worked for around 2 hours.
