Eric Clapton reveals incurable damage to his nervous system E
ric Clapton has revealed he is suffering incurable damage to his nervous system which has left him struggling to play his guitar. The legendary rock guitarist, who has publicly fought addictions to cocaine, heroin, prescription drugs and alcohol, said that although he is grateful to be alive, he has been debilitated by his illness. He said: ‘I’ve had quite a lot of pain over the last year. It started with lower back pain, and turned into what they call peripheral neuropathy - which is where you feel like you have electric shocks going down your leg. ‘And I’ve had to figure out how to deal with some other things from getting old.’ Mr Clapton, 71, said that it is now ‘hard work’ to play the guitar and he has had to ‘come to terms’ with the fact that his condition will not improve. ‘Because I’m in recovery from alcoholism and addiction to substances, I consider it a great thing to be alive at all. By rights I should have kicked the bucket a long time ago. ‘For some reason I was plucked from the jaws of hell and given another chance,’ he said. He added: ‘I can still play. I mean, it’s hard work sometimes, the physical side
of it - just getting old, man, is hard.’ The veteran rock guitarist first rose to fame in the 1960s with the bands John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers, Cream and Blind Faith before launching a successful solo career in the 1970s. While his career boomed in the Seventies, Mr Clapton’s personal life descended into addiction and a string of doomed affairs, including with model Pattie Boyd, who was married to The Beatles guitarist George Harrison. He converted to Christianity but his heroin addiction became so severe that he was
forced to temporarily give up performing, famously passing out while performing at a charity concert in Madison Square Garden in 1971. Speaking to Classic Rock magazine, he said: ‘I don’t know how I survived - the Seventies especially. ‘There was one point there where they were flying me to hospital in St Paul [Minnesota] and I was dying, apparently - I had three ulcers and one of them was bleeding. ‘I was drinking three bottles of brandy and taking handfuls of codeine, and I was close to checking out. It’s amazing that I’m still here, really.’
Shraddha Kapoor to sing all her songs in ‘Rock On 2’
S
hraddha Kapoor will be seen singing all her songs for her upcoming film Rock On 2. A source says, “Shraddha has agreed to sing all her songs in Rock On 2. However she was not too keen to lend her voice for herself on screen. She likes singing ,as music runs in her family but she was skeptical of singing all songs. She was fine with singing a one or two numbers. But her co-star and one of the makers of the film Farhan Akhtar convinced her and told her that it would be necessary for her to sing as it will look real and authentic and she agreed.”
Sussanne spills the beans on divorce with Hrithik
Mr Clapton married Miss Boyd in 1979, giving up heroin but beginning his battle with alcoholism. He described Miss Boyd in his 2007 autobiography as a ‘salve-cum-partner’ and frequently beat her and forced her to have sex with him. He said: ‘I kind of regret losing an awful lot of time to just being a vegetable - pickled.’ He said: ‘My life is really blessed. I’ve got a wonderful family, a fantastically beautiful wife, in every way, great kids, and I can still play.’ Mr Clapton, who has performed at the Royal Albert Hall more than 200 times during his lifetime, also spoke about the struggles of getting older. ‘I mean, it’s hard work sometimes, the physical side of it - just getting old, man, is hard. ‘But I love to play, still. I sit in the corner of our front room with a guitar, and I play in the morning and I rest in the afternoon... Life is good,’ he said. The guitarist, who has just released his 23rd album, I Still Do, said the record is far from a farewell to his career but the title is a tribute to friends, family and other musicians who have passed away in recent years.
Adele slams Bowie producer for his comments
A
dele has responded to comments made about her voice by David Bowie’s producer. Tony Visconti suggested last week (June 8) that the singer’s vocals could have been “manipulated” to make them sound better. “You turn the radio on and it’s fluff, you are listening to 90 per cent computerized voices,” he said. “We know Adele has a great voice but it’s even questionable if that is actually her voice or how much has been manipulated. We don’t know.” Visconti worked with Bowie throughout the late singer’s career, from his second album in 1969 to final album ‘Blackstar’. Consequence Of Sound reports that, at a concert afterwards, the British singer responded to his suggestions between songs. “Some dickhead tried to say that my voice was not me on record,” Adele said. “Damn it”. Meanwhile, it was confirmed last week (June 9) that both Adele and Bowie are to be celebrated in a new National Portrait Gallery exhibition.

F
ormer Miss Nagaland 2014 Veneinem Sings o n g wa s c r ow n e d ‘Miss Queen of India East 2016’ at a glittering Pageant in Cochin. Ms. Veneinem had earlier won the Miss North East 2016 in April at Imphal , Manipur organised as part of ‘Making Manipur’ which led her to represent North East at the Queen of India Pageant organised by Pagesus at Cochin, India. Besides prestigious title, Veneinem also won the Miss Viewers’ Choice and Miss Beautiful Hair sub-titles. Veneinem, a student of St. Joseph’s College, Kohima and Miss Nagaland 2014 is also the State Election Icon and Ambassador of Making Manipur. A humble and God fearing person, she has achieved so much within a short period setting a good example to the younger generation that nothing is impossible beyond measures. As she rightly puts, “Believe in yourself, have faith and set your mind and heart to it and everything will be possible.” People from all walks of life gathered at Churachandpur Staduim, Manipur to felicitate Ms. Veneinem for her success. She was also given a warm welcome at Dimapur Airport upon her arrival. She attributed her success to her parents and the

Amitabh Bachchan: We are an ordinary
T
here is a lot of aura surrounding the Bachchan family, but megastar Amitabh Bachchan says that he does not find anything special in the way they conduct themselves. In an interview with PTI, Bachchan speaks about his family, son Abhishek, granddaughter, Panama Papers controversy and working with Ram Gopal Varma again on ‘Sarkar 3’. Here are the excerpts: We often see the Bachchan family together at the screening of films be it of Abhishek or Aishwarya. Do you
critically analyse each other’s work within the family? We are ordinary beings and we conduct ourselves ordinarily. Yes, just as any other would discuss a film, we as a family often do similar. Abhishek has successfully diversified into numerous things beyond his core competency of acting. To you, is he an actor first or an entrepreneur? To me, he is my son first How does Jaya react to and last. His core competency, his diversified fields, are added the work that you do today? attractions and accomplish- Is she impressed? ways...!! We have been hearing about your granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda getting into films. Is she inclined towards joining the film industry? That news is incorrect. She is busy with her advanced studies just yet, having recently graduated from school. You would be teaming up with Ram Gopal Varma for ‘Sarkar 3’. Can his slide be arrested and do you feel he has it in him to come out with another critically acclaimed work? Every individual in the
film world has been through these so called ‘slides’. The slides that you observe on the playing fields of children in a park are a good symbolic example. When the kid slides down one of these contraptions, he or she reaches the ground and gets up, he doesn’t disappear into the earth below. Ram Gopal Varma is a most noteworthy talent and has given us some very valuable iconic films. I enjoy working with him. Whether the work that I do shall succeed or achieve critical acclaim is for the audience to decide.

fter keeping mum for over two years, Sussanne Khan has finally opened up about her divorce with Hrithik Roshan. In an interview with Femina magazine, the 37-year-old Interior designer said, “We had reached a stage in our lives where I decided that it’s better we weren’t together. It was important to be aware and not be in a false relationship.” Adding on to this, she said that though they don’t hangout together anymore, they are in constant touch with each other and are very com-
mitted towards their kids. “We are respectful towards each other. When children are involved, it’s important to put our differences aside and protect them,” Sussanne said. The interior designer and the ‘Bang Bang’ actor, who tied the knot on December 20, 2000, called it quits after 14 years of their marriage. The two announced split back in 2014. Some reports claimed Sussanne’s closeness to Arjun Rampal as the reason behind the couple’s split, while others blamed it on Hrithik’s closeness to Kangana Ranaut.
hey reached the pinnacle of their success almost ten years ago, when they scored the highest selling album of 1997. However, time appeared to have stood still for The Corrs as they looked remarkably youthful during their performance at the Isle Of Wight Festival on Saturday. Andrea, 42, Sharon, 46 and Caroline, 43, make up the band alongside their older brother Jim, 51, and created a whopping five platinum albums during the 1990s. Youngest sister, Andrea, stole the show as she flicked back her raven locks and even treated the crowds to a spot of Irish dancing to go alongside her incredible vocals. The lead singer cut a sophisticated figure as she dressed all in black for the occasion and flashed just a hint of her sultry lace bra in plunging camisole. And her super short leather skirt was adorned with black tassels which bounced around rhythmically while she bopped along to the music created by her sisters. Andrea also highlighted
Remembering Christina Grimmie
E
ven before she earned a coveted four-chair turnaround on The Voice with a dazzling performance of the Miley Cyrus hit, “Wrecking Ball,” Christina Grimmie -who was murdered at the age of 22 on Friday night, apparently by a deranged fan, at a meetand-greet after a performance in Orlando, Florida -- was on a fast track to stardom. When she was just a 15-year-old teenager in her hometown of Marlton, New Jersey, Grimmie began uploading videos of herself singing on YouTube under the name zeldaxlove64. Her first videos in 2009 -- which included the Hannah Montana hit “Don’t Wanna Be Torn” -- resonated with fans on the video sharing channel, and within a year it was another Miley Cyrus cover of “Party in the USA” that launched her into early YouK

Tube stardom. She also posted video blogs that saw her talking about her other passion: video games. Her favorite? Zelda. “I’m that girl that’s a hardcore musician and loves to sing and write and play instruments, but at the same time loves video games, metal music, and just being a goofy person,” she said in an interview with Teen Ink. Police Identify Man Who Killed Christina Grimmie It wasn’t long -- a year
-- before Selena Gomez’s stepfather Brian Teefy discovered her talent, and signed on as her manager. He lined up dates for her opening for Gomez in 2011; that year Grimmie joined the first-ever Digitour socialmedia trek. Grimmie’s real star turn took place in 2014, when she auditioned for The Voice. She stunned from the first note, joining Adam Levine’s team and consistently delivering impressive performances through the Battle and Knockout rounds. She continued to impress with reinterpretations of Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse” and Jason Mraz’s “I Won’t Give Up.” Christina Grimmie’s Manager Sets Up GoFundMe Page for Family “You’re more comfortable up there than I am,” the Maroon 5 singer said. “This person could be a huge star.”

Thousands of revellers donned David Bowie masks in tribute to the pop giant during the first major music festival of the summer. The show of remembrance was held at the main stage of the Isle of Wight Festival to raise money for the Stand Up to Cancer charity. Promoter John Giddings, who was Bowie’s agent for 30 years, said the singer, who performed his last ever UK live show at the event in 2004, was a ‘true friend to the festival’.
