Amicable settlement of Aug 19 incident at Kohima: AYO DIMAPUR: In regard to the August 19 incident at Kohima, wherein a member of the Angami Youth Organization (AYO) Pelevilie Kuotsu was physically assaulted by the region commander, Angami region, Pitovi, the AYO and representatives from the GPRN/NSCN (Unification) headed by the chairman Angami region and the deputy kilonser home amongst others, after a series of meetings on the incident have resolved the matter amicably in the spirit of brotherhood and oneness. tion, made on behalf of the victim, by the representative of the NSCN (U), the matter was declared settled in the presence of both the accused and the victim. While acknowledging the condemnation and frustrations expressed against the uncalled act, the urge expressed by the people from all walks of life to contain and do away with the menace of nationalism taxes and abusive acts, the organization reiterates its stand to always champion the cause, welfare and interest of all. AYO therefore impress upon all organizations that came forward in extending solidarity to the victim to kindly endorse to settlement made, which was concluded in the best interest of all.
Therie in his speech urged the students to avoid bribery, corruption and requested the students to be honest and be true to oneself. He asserted that students were the future generation who holds tomorrow and strongly hoped that “Honest People will start to emerge from Nagaland”. Vice chancellor of NU, Prof. BK Konwar, exhorted the students to bring transformation within the country and asserted that students were responsible for a better tomorrow. ASU, LSU, ASC urges govt to review reservation policy DIMAPUR: Reacting against the statements on the imbroglio in NSEE-II selection of MBBS and BDS candidates for the session, 2016- 17, brought out by some organizations, three students’ organization, Angami Students Union (ASU), Lotha Students’ Union and Ao Students’ Conference (ASC) asserted that the reservation in professional and technical required urgent redressal. In a letter addressed to the chief minister, the three organizations expressed its opinion stating that to provide superseding merit would itself deft logic and the very purpose of medical profession. It said unless the reservation and quota policy was reviewed, it would murder professionalism and if of a dangerous trend especially in the field of medical science and many other technical subject matter as there are irrefutable factors which cannot be dealt as a
mere clerical responsibility. It added that with best intention, bearing in mind the welfare of the students whose career and future were placed at stake the three student organizations has registered its dissent on the recent MBBS and BDS issue which has been delayed so far, affecting the selected students. It has also made its stand clear that the “latest” declared result must stand and necessary proceeding be initiated at the earliest so that students’ careers are not hampered. The three organizations held a serious view that reservation policy ought to be reviewed and re-examined as it hold no meaning when BT reservation share was actually higher than that of the general category as “in this case has amply displayed” and said the union intends to openly come out with various accumulated grievances happened over the years in the near future.

Heavy torrential rain causes road blockade DIMAPUR: Heavy torrential rain and landslide since last month has caused road blockade along the stretch of Kohima- Bokajan NEC road from 0 Km to 16 km via Ghotovi village. DIMAPUR: Lerie Panchayat Kohima (LPK) has informed that the solid waste management plant at Lerie colony was operational and being utilized recently but few genuine concerns have emerged. A press note by Lerie Panchayat Kohima chairman, James Liezietsu has appealed to fellow panchayats, and responsible parties engaged in sanitary management in their respective wards to take note and ensure that disposal vehicle is covered well and spillage of waste matter on the colony roads is avoided. It also stated that transportation of waste materials through Lerie colony during the rush hours from 7:30 am. to 9:30 am should be avoided and to instruct their drivers accordingly. The release also stated that construction of the drainage running alongside the main road beginning from below the welcome gate of the colony and extending beyond St. Mary Higher Secondary School, a distance of over 2500 feet was completed in record time. mester was awarded the scholarship for the academic year 2016. The scholarship covers 50% of the total admission fee and free tuition fee. Initially, the scholarship would be given to, one each student from Arts
and Commerce stream. This SCSS has been designed and sponsored by the principal, teachers and the non-teaching staffs of the college for meritorious students from poor economic background.
Phek-Losami road opened
DIMAPUR: PWD road via Losami to Phek that remained blocked due to heavy landslide since June 28 last has been opened. In a press release, Losami village council chairman Kezuwelo Akami stated that the blocked of the road caused untold suffering to many travelers. Landslide that occurred on August 3, 2015 had blocked the same area but was cleared and could ply for nearly a year. However, heavy landslide occurred in the same place this year also.
