NOTICE
Seven other soldiers were wounded in the attack. A government-paid village guard, helping the security forces battle the PKK was also killed in a clash with the rebels in the province, Anadolu reported. Prime Minister Binali Yildirim traveled to Elazig to visit the site of the bombing as well as those wounded in the attack. He told reporters there that both the PKK and the Gulen movement were directed by the same “intelligence” intent on causing Turkey harm, without elaborating. “The (Gulen movement) has lost its assertiveness and has handed over the duty to the (PKK),” Yildirim said. “The intelligence that directs them is the same. When one’s duty ends, the other takes up the duty.” Yildirim vowed to fight the PKK until it is “eliminated.” “No terror organization will force this nation to cow in submission,” Yildirim said.
willing to look for a resolution that suits both sides’ interests via both sides’ energy administrations’ cooperation.” Ms Suu Kyi did not mention the dam in remarks to Mr Li made in front of journalists, but said she hoped her visit would “further consolidate and develop” relations. Myanmar has long been hugely reliant on Chinese economic support, which has been seen again through Beijing vowing to build two new hospitals and a strategic bridge.

By 5.00 p.m. (local time), there were six aftershocks recorded in the same area as the initial quake, the highest of them magnitude-4, ABC Australia reported. Ankara, Aug 18 (Agencies): A string of bombings, blamed on Kurdish rebels and targeting Turkey’s security forces, killed at least 11 people and wounded 226 others, officials said today. Two of the attacks were car bombings that hit police stations in eastern Turkey, while a third a roadside blast targeted a military vehicle carrying soldiers in the southeast of the country. Authorities say the assaults were carried out by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, which has launched a campaign of car bombings targeting police stations or roadside bomb attacks security force vehicles. Last week, PKK commander Cemil Bayik threatened increased attacks against police in Turkish cities. The wave of attacks come as Turkey is focused on a clampdown on suspected followers of a movement led by US-based Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen, which the government accuses of orches-

I s l a m a ba d, Au g 1 8 (IANS): Balochistan Chief Minister Sanaullah Zehri on Thursday said no one in the Pakistani province had supported Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that the Baloch people had thanked him for his support. “We condemn Narendra Modi’s statement on Balochistan. No one in Balochistan supported his statement. There is no comparison between the struggle for liberation in Indiaheld Kashmir and the so-called Balochistan insurgency,” Zehri asserted at a rally in Quetta, the provincial capital. Modi in his speech on August 15, India’s Independence Day, said “people of Balochistan, Gilgit and PoK (Pakistan Occupied Kashmir) have thanked me a lot in past few days, I am grateful to them”. According to media reports, Modi’s comments sparked protests across Balochistan, with large numbers of tribesmen taking to the streets in protest in Dera Bugti, Khuzdar, Quetta, Chaman and other parts of the province. Angry protestors set ablaze the Indian flag and chanted slogans against the Indian Prime Minister at many places. “We didn’t ask the people to come out on the streets... They are on the streets themselves,” the Pakistan Muslim League-N lawmaker said of the protests against Modi.
Beijing, Aug 18 (Agencies): Myanmar’s de-facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi has made her first visit to China, where the issue of a stalled Chinese hydro-dam project in Myanmar’s north featured in discussions. Former Myanmar president Thein Sein suspended the $3.6 billion Myitsone dam project in 2011, after the plan drew widespread protests over its environmental impacts. The move angered China, which would have received around 90 per cent of the dam’s power. Ms Suu Kyi was held under house arrest for 24 years by a military junta backed diplomatically by Beijing, and while she supported suspending the dam at the time, she is now facing pressure to resume the project. “Aung San Suu Kyi said that the Myanmar Government has already set up an investigation committee to look for an appropriate resolution to the Myitsone dam issue,” Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin told reporters after a meeting between Ms Suu Kyi and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang. “She also said that she is
