From the Executive Director by Michelle Czosek, CAE

It’s hard to believe that at this time last year the NAFA Board of Directors had made the difficult decision to postpone the 2020 Annual Convention in Clearwater Beach. Now here we are gearing up for our first in-person annual convention since 2019 – time flies! And, what an event it will be. We have a great line-up of presenters, and we’re looking forward to welcoming our opening keynote presenter Bill Bahnfleth, Ph.D., P.E., Professor of Architectural Engineering at Pennsylvania State University and chair of ASHRAE’s Epidemic Task Force. Highlights of the program are available at the beginning of this issue with registration and full program available on our website at www.nafahq. org/2021-annual-convention. The Annual Convention also offers testing for both the Certified Air Filter Specialist (CAFS) and NAFA Certified Technician Level I (NCT) designations. The NAFA Certified Technician Level II designation training and testing is offered at least once a year and is taken in person only. The training was offered this summer in the Chicago area, and we are currently looking to offer an option on the east coast in 2022. We are pleased to offer a virtual alternative for those who choose not to travel to Clearwater Beach. We feel it’s important to bring education to you at a time when some cannot travel or do not feel comfortable being in larger groups of people.

Turning to the NAFA Foundation, three $1,000 scholarships have been awarded to deserving students that are in the NAFA family. They will be officially recognized at the annual convention. The Foundation is pleased to be able to provide these scholarships annually, supported by donations, golf tournaments or other social outings that are held in conjunction with the NAFA Annual Convention and Technical Seminar. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the sponsors that have supported NAFA this year. Your involvement is very much appreciated. I hope you’ll continue your sponsorship in 2022! Please let us know if there’s something we can do to even more value to you as we move into the new year. Membership dues renewal season is almost upon us, so please keep an eye out for notices. Don’t hesitate to reach out to me or any board member if you have questions, ideas for resources that we can provide to our community or to share issues and challenges that NAFA may be able to help address. I look forward to seeing everyone soon! ■ Take care,
