The Value Of Vision

A challenge that faces most churches is to have a clear, defined and agreed upon vision. Some may even confuse a vision statement with a mission statement. How can one tell the difference? The best way to understand the difference; a mission statement is what are we about, while a vision statement answers the question “What is our desired future?” Without the vision and mission statement clearly defined members of a church operate out of their own needs and wants. For some the purpose of the church is to allow me to live in the past. I love the church when it renews my sweet memories of my childhood. Others believe the church is there to please them. I have had church members say to me, “Just do what I like.” In response I have asked the question, “What do you

Commission. This church only wanted new people to help pay the bills. Of the above five churches only one is still alive and it is struggling. The other four have closed their doors. A proverb “Without vision the people perish”.(Pr. 29:18 KJV) Another question we may ask, “What is the difference between a vision and a personal desire or preference?” A vision is biblical and desires to be a blessing to others. When God first made a covenant with Abraham, God promised to bless Abraham so that he might be a blessing to others. (Gen. 12:1-3) God renews this covenant with Jacob in the great vision of the angels descending (Gen 28:10-15) The Christ given vision for the church is quite clearly stated in Matt. 28 18-20 known as the Great Commission. If this is the actual vision of your church, God will richly bless your fellowship.

Two Dutch immigrant churches wanted me because I am able to speak their native language. Two other rural churches wanted me because I have a farming background.
