Myna’s morning nap was disturbed by the Cuckoo’s loud song.

She opened her eyes and looked around. She spotted a Cuckoo bird sitting on a tree branch.

Myna was angry at being disturbed, and barked at the bird. Cuckoo flew away.

Myna jumped down from the armchair.

She walked around the house and found Dad in the storeroom. He was searching for suitcases.

“Dad is travelling again,” Myna thought.

Dad took out two suitcases and walked to the bedroom.

Myna tried to talk to Dad, but he was too busy packing clothes.

She got upset and jumped inside one of the suitcases.

Dad was about to put something in the suitcase when he suddenly noticed Myna in it.

Myna was happy that her trick had worked.

Dad knew what Myna was thinking and told her, “Myna, Dad is flying overseas for a week and will be back next Sunday.�

Myna felt sad and walked away.

She always felt sad when Dad travelled.

In the evening, to cheer Myna up, Dad planned an outing to the beach. Mom joined too.

The beach was crowded.

Many people were walking and exercising there.

Myna saw people riding buggies, cycles and roller skates.

She did not like it when people zoomed past her. She barked at them.

To distract Myna, Dad and Mom took her to a quieter area in the beach.

Myna was happy to be on the wet sand near water.

She ran along the shoreline and played with children. She rolled in the sand and dug holes. She ran towards the waves and barked at them.

She did not go close as she was afraid of getting wet.

Myna looked at the huge sand castles built by the children.

Some children and adults approached her to take pictures with them. Myna was happy to pose for them.

Mom got tired standing under the hot sun. So they decided to move to a cooler area under a tree.

Mom spread a picnic mat and they sat down to relax. She had brought some drinks and peanuts from home.

Myna was also thirsty and hungry.

From the beach, they could see big and small ships docked in the sea.

And airplanes queuing up in the sky one after the other to land at the nearby airport.

Dad said those ships and airplanes were coming from other countries with passengers and cargo.

When Myna was resting on the mat she heard someone talking…

“Hello….hello” She looked around to see where the sound was coming from.

Myna spotted a Macaw parrot sitting on the tree and talking. It was looking at her.

Myna was surprised to see a talking bird. She barked at the bird to say hello. The Macaw got scared and flew away.

Myna felt sad. She did not mean to scare the bird.

Mom told her that Myna had a bad habit of barking at everyone and needed to stop it.

Myna wanted to say sorry to the bird. She wished she too could talk like the bird and had wings to fly.

It was almost sunset, and the sky was colourful.

The cool breeze was a relief to the scorching heat.

They walked to the other side of the beach to have a better view of the airplanes.

Myna could see the airplanes landing and taking off. She found out that the planes closer to the ground were huge.

Myna could not believe they were so big. She used to see small airplanes from the balcony of her house.

Dad and Mom were also watching them with fascination.

Suddenly, Myna thought about Dad’s travel. He had told her that he would be flying the next day.

Myna asked Dad whether she could fly on an airplane. Dad told her that dogs can also fly on airplanes.

Dad promised that he would take Myna and Mom for holiday to a beautiful country. Myna got excited and thanked Dad. It was getting dark and they decided to go back home. Myna thought about flying on the airplane and went into a deep sleep.

As soon as they reached home, Myna ran to the bedroom and jumped inside the suitcase and was ready to go.
