Honoring a Dedicated Employee
We announce Don Nichols's retirement after 13 years as Hamilton County Parks and Recreation Department's Resource Development Specialist with a mix of celebration and sadness. No one deserves a fulfilling and happy retirement more, but his friends at HCPR already miss him!
Don's work can be seen everywhere you look within this department. Every grant, sponsor, partner, and visitor Don touched received special treatment and were positively impacted by the dedication he brought to the parks. Don's handiwork even shaped this very document, our Chatterbox. His attention to the smallest detail elevated this department's culture, identity, and product.
Deputy Director Bruce Oldham aptly described Don and his role at HCPR as "a public servant in every possible facet. It was a true privilege to work alongside him and learn from his wealth of experience and dedication."
There was never a task too small or too large for Don to take on, and his desk light often burned well into the dark hours of the night, ensuring the park's top-notch customer experience. At most events, Sharon, his loving wife, marched along his side in parades, greeted concertgoers, and welcomed all visitors in temperatures ranging from 0 to 100 degrees. Don's expertise has become so integral to our department that it is now the brand county citizens have come to recognize and expect. However, even when considering all of his professional contributions, it's his warmth and personal character that will be missed the most, leaving a void that will be hard to fill. Our department congratulations Don and his family for his service and wishes him all the joys of retirement that will come.
Don and Sharon Nicholls take time to enjoy one of Cool Creek Concerts.

Guests are invited to enjoy a special evening outdoors in the beautiful Coxhall Gardens Cripe Pavilion tent. Posh Picnic is an inspiring fundraising event benefiting the Coxhall Mansion and Estate that presents a creative challenge for each table of guests to design their own tablescape with themed place settings. Tables will be judged, and prizes will be awarded for the following categories — Most “Posh” (elegant), Most Creative, People’s Choice (voted on by the other participants), and the Spirit of Indiana. Guests are to bring a picnic dinner as casual or elegant as your group chooses and drinks of your choice. Your evening under the stars will include dancing with music provided by MGS DJs and Master of Ceremonies, Mr. Jeff Worrell.
Guests are encouraged to come early (2 – 4 p.m.), to set up and decorate their tables. Tables and chairs for up to ten guests will be provided, along with white tablecloths. Find your creative inspiration and start making plans now!
