Theatre TCC! Performs joyous musical “Something Rotten!”

Theatre TCC! will perform a number of “Something Rotten!” between April 7-17 in Turner Auditorium. Admission for students, faculty and staff is free with a TCC ID while the general public must pay between $7-$15 at the door.

Theatre TCC! organizer says the performance will be extravagant. However, the organizer mentions that “Something Rotten!” will be the Tallahassee premiere.

Director of Theatre Eva Nielsen said the performance should fascinate the audience and have various elements. These elements will include different dance styles, designs, fun music and amusing characters.

“I saw it on Broadway, and I was blown away,” Nielsen said. “I didn’t know what to expect, I had not researched it and I was just blown away.”

Nielsen said the musical is set to have a cast of 24 members as many of them work hard to reenact “Something Rotten!”. She emphasized that she and the cast members are excited to leave the audience astonished.

The play occurs in the Renaissance where the Bottom brothers work tirelessly to maintain their acting business while the biggest playwright William Shakespeare is around, according to Theatre TCC! website. Soon, a soothsayer reveals a key factor that can help the brothers become the greatest sensation in England.

“Nick consults with a soothsayer, who informs him that the future of theatre involves acting, singing, and dancing sometimes all at once," the Theatre TCC! website said.

Gerald Davis, who is a cast member, said the musical is fixed on its comic details. He then highlights his buzz for the audience's reactions.

“It is hilarious, it is ridiculous, and I cannot wait for everybody to see it,” Davis said.

“Something Rotten!” is confirmed to show on April 7-9 and April 15-16 at 8 p.m. The last performance will show on April 17 at 2 p.m.
