Argyle High School

Wins Class 5A Academic State Championship!

It’s Truly a Tradition Like None Other in the State!

Argyle High School continued its reign as a leader in UIL Academics by winning its 18th state title on Wednesday. The Eagles claimed the Class 5A state championship with 126 points, defeating Highland Park and A&M Consolidated.

This marked Argyle’s third consecutive title in 5A and included two first-place team finishes (Accounting, Literary Criticism), three in second place (Calculator, Current Issues & Events, Mathematics) and one in third place (Spelling & Vocabulary). AHS also

produced a state champion and a state finalist in Speech & Debate.

“Championships do not come easily or naturally,” AHS UIL Academics Coordinator Deserae Good said. “They come from dedication, intrinsic drive, and belief in yourself and your team. These students and coaches have shown year after year that they can hold on to a winning title, and this year makes 18. These kids will go on to become innovators, research scientists, mathematicians, literary artists, theatrical stars, historians, journalists, and so much more. The tradition does not stop here.”

This year’s feat was more challenging due to scheduling circumstances. Nearly half of the AHS competitors were seniors and competed early Monday morning in Austin following graduation in Denton on Sunday night. This provides just another example of the commitment, talents and dedication of these Eagles!

The UIL academic contests include multiple subject areas in which schools build points through comprehensive competitions. The areas include Business, Journalism, Language Arts, Social Studies, Speech & Debate, STEM and Theatre.

THURSDAY | MAY 21, 2026 | 8PM

Starting with the Class of 2026, the annual AHS graduation ceremony will be held at the NEW Argyle ISD Stadium, located on the high school campus in Canyon Falls. The ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 8 p.m.

This marks a significant milestone as AISD begins a new tradition, celebrating the AHS seniors on their home campus.

“We are so excited to celebrate on our own field for the very first time this spring,” Argyle High School Principal Shannon Knowles said. “There is something special about honoring our graduates in the heart of our own campus, a place filled with memories, traditions, and the spirit of our community. I believe it will be the perfect backdrop to launch our seniors into the next chapter of their lives.”

About the New Argyle ISD Stadium:

n OPENING: Expected completion in December 2025

n CAPACITY: 7,500 seats (5,000 on the home side)

n LOCATION: Behind the AHS field house on the south side of campus

Hosting graduation at a district facility gives AHS greater flexibility in choosing

dates and times and helps avoid scheduling conflicts with UIL state activities and other events. Most importantly, it gives our seniors the opportunity to graduate in front of family and friends, right at home.

Contingency plans are being developed to address any potential weather disruptions. We’ll share those details during the school year.

We are incredibly grateful to the University of North Texas for serving as host to AHS for many graduation ceremonies over the years. UNT has been a valued partner, and we’re thankful for their continued support of AISD.

We look forward to celebrating this new chapter when the AHS seniors walk across the stage in May 2026!

ARGYLE HIGH SCHOOL

a note from THE PRINCIPAL

Welcome Back, Argyle High School Eagles!

The start of the school year has brought with it a wave of excitement, energy, and pride at Argyle High School. From the moment students walked back through the doors, it’s been clear that this year is already shaping up to be something special.

One of the biggest changes this fall has been the cell phone policy. Instead of heads bent toward screens, students are actively engaged—listening intently in class, playing cards, and chatting with friends at lunch. The sight of students connecting face-to-face has been a refreshing shift, and the support from parents has been instrumental. Even when a phone pickup has been necessary, families have backed the policy, reinforcing the idea that fewer distractions lead to stronger learning and better relationships.

Another new adjustment, the student ID policy, has also been met with great success. Students are arriving each morning wearing their IDs with pride and keeping them visible throughout the day. Their responsibility and maturity have helped create a safer, more connected campus environment.

None of this would be possible without the incredible dedication of our students and staff. Their positivity, resilience, and teamwork shine through every day. It’s easy to see why Argyle High is such a special place—we truly do have the best staff and students.

Of course, back-to-school excitement doesn’t stop at the classroom door. Friday nights under the stadium lights are back, and our entire community is ready to cheer on the Eagles. The band, color guard, cheerleaders, Majestics, athletic trainers, and football players are hard

at work, doing what they love and giving us all something to look forward to each week.

Volleyball has started the season strong, and with their energy and drive, fans are already buzzing about a long playoff run. Tennis and Cross Country have also kicked off the year with impressive performances, proving once again that Argyle athletes know how to compete—and win. Meanwhile, the band and color guard continue their intense rehearsals, often practicing in the early mornings and evenings to beat the Texas heat. Their dedication promises powerful performances both on Friday nights and at competitions this fall.

Homecoming week will be full of Eagle pride again this year. It will be a week to remember, filled with tradition, spirit, and celebration.

Argyle High is off to an incredible start, with momentum building both inside and outside the classroom. The combination of student focus, parent support, and staff dedication makes it clear—this school year is going to soar.

District Hosts Beam Signing Event at New Middle School

On a warm summer afternoon in Argyle, students, teachers, parents, and community members gathered for a once-in-a-generation milestone: the beam signing ceremony for Argyle ISD’s new middle school on FM 407.

Set to open its doors in the fall of 2026, the new campus will serve 7th and 8th graders, marking a significant step in the district’s continued growth. The building represents not only a much-needed expansion but also a chapter in history— the first campus to be constructed within the Town of Argyle since the opening of Hilltop Elementary in 2005.

One by one, students leaned in to add their names, carefully etching a piece of

The sound of permanent marker scratching across steel carried a weight far beyond ink and metal.

their legacy onto the beam. Teachers and staff followed, some writing short messages of encouragement for future Eagles who will walk the halls in just a few short years. Parents and community leaders joined in, reflecting the collaborative spirit that has defined Argyle ISD’s journey.

The beam, later lifted into place as part of the school’s permanent structure, now carries hundreds of signatures—each a symbol of pride, hope, and investment in the future.

When the new middle school officially opens in 2026, it will not just be a stateof-the-art facility for learning. It will stand as a testament to a community’s growth, resilience, and unwavering belief in the power of education.

ParentSquare Connect with AISD

Argyle ISD is excited to announce that the district has launched ParentSquare as the new communication platform! This will bring all classroom, school, and district communication into one place—making it easier for you to connect with families and for them to stay informed and engaged.

Visit the ArgyleISD.com website for more details and links to sign up and download the App. This new platform is more user-friendly and will help enhance communications with our families.

Why the switch?

In the past, we used a mix of Remind, Class Dojo, Seesaw, SchoolMessenger, and others.

While well-intended, this led to inconsistent communication and parent overload.

ParentSquare will help streamline, simplify, and unify our messaging—district-wide.

Protecting Kids from

FLU

eptember and October are the best times for your child to get their annual flu vaccine. Most people six months and older should get vaccinated each year for influenza. Check with your pediatrician about the best flu vaccine for your child.

Symptoms of the flu in kids can include sore throat, muscle aches, congestion, fever, chills, and fatigue. If your child is feeling sick, encourage them to rest and keep them hydrated. You can also try these kid-friendly flu home remedies to give relief.

To help soothe a child’s cough:

• Drink warm fluids: Warm liquids such as caffeine-free tea, broth, or hot water with lemon can help loosen up mucus and soothe a sore throat.

• Consider using a humidifier: Consider placing a cool-mist humidifier in your child’s room, near where they sleep, to help ease their breathing.

• Breathe in warm water vapors: Let your child breathe in water vapors from a warm bath or shower. This loosens mucus and calms your child before bed.

• Try icy treats: Give your child cold items like Popsicles or ice cream.

• Saline and suction: A saline solution, such as a nose spray or mist, can help loosen mucus in the nose. Have your child blow their nose frequently, or if they are young, use a suction bulb to prevent drainage.

• Give honey (over age 1): A teaspoon of honey can help combat coughing but should only be given to children over the age of 1.

• Sleep/Rest: Encourage your child to rest and sleep to promote healing.

What is a (high) fever for a child?

A normal body temperature is about 98.6°F. A temperature of 100.4°F or higher is considered a fever for a child. Keep in mind that everyone’s body temp fluctuates and is usually lower in the morning and higher in the evening.

When your child has a fever, it is a sign that their immune system is fighting off an infection. Reducing fever may relieve some discomfort and allow for an opportunity to hydrate and re-evaluate your child. However, it may be beneficial to allow your child to run a fever of 100.4° to 101°-102° to potentially allow a quicker recovery.

Call your pediatrician if your child is:

• Younger than 3 months with a temperature of 100.4°F or higher.

• Age 3 to 6 months with a fever up to 102°F and appears lethargic or irritable.

• Age 6 to 24 months with a temperature above 102°F, lasting more than a day with worsening symptoms.

The flu is highly contagious, and we should do as much as possible to prevent the spread. Wash your hands frequently, do not touch your face, stay clear of those who are coughing, and keep your children home if they are ill.

ARGYLE ISD BOARD OF TRUSTEES APPROVES RAISES

The Argyle ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved the 2025–2026 Teacher and Staff Compensation Plan during its June meeting— a major step forward in our continued commitment to valuing and retaining high-quality educators.

This action comes as part of a multiphase effort that began earlier this spring when the district hosted a series of listening workshops with teachers and staff. These sessions gave team members a direct voice in shaping budget priorities.

KEY THEMES THAT EMERGED INCLUDED:

n Adding classroom teaching positions to help reduce class sizes

n Restoring support staff positions that were cut during the 2024–2025 school year

n Increasing compensation for teachers and staff

We’re proud to share that the Board of Trustees addressed the first two priorities in April, approving over 35 new teaching positions and the reinstatement of key support staff roles to meet campus needs and reduce strain on educators.

Since that time, Argyle ISD has continued working toward the third priority—compensation. Last week, Governor Abbott signed into law HB2, a historic bill that invests $8.5 billion into public education and provides significant pay increases

for classroom teachers statewide. Argyle ISD has closely followed developments surrounding this bill and the additional funding it will bring to our district.

Through a series of public board budget workshops, the administration and trustees reviewed available funding, district needs, and staff input. We are pleased to now share that a comprehensive compensation package has been approved for all staff for the 2025–2026 school year. This package is designed to recognize the vital contributions of our employees and support retention across all departments.

DETAILS ABOUT THE 2025–2026 COMPENSATION PLAN INCLUDE:

n Classroom Teachers with 0-2 years of completed experience will receive $2,100 raise (3.5%)

n Classroom Teachers with 3-4 years of completed experience will receive $2,500 raise (≈4%)

n Classroom Teachers with ≥5 years of completed experience will receive $5,000 raise (≈8%)

n All Other Staff will receive a 3.5% raise of the midpoint for pay range

We extend our sincere gratitude to our teachers and staff for your continued input and engagement, and to the Board of Trustees for their unwavering commitment to prioritizing those who are the heart of our district! Your feedback shaped these decisions, and your dedication drives Argyle ISD forward.

Welcome Back, SGC Eagles!

The 2025–2026 school year is off to a great start at Argyle Sixth Grade Center!

From the very first day, our students came through the doors with smiles, energy, and a true eagerness to learn. It has been such a joy to see how quickly they have embraced our routines and expectations— especially with phones and badges. Thanks to your support at home, our Eagles have adjusted so smoothly that it already feels like second nature!

We are also incredibly thankful for the amazing partnership of our families. In just the month of August, more than 20 parent volunteers joined us during lunches to connect with students and support our campus administrators with supervision. Your presence makes such a positive difference and helps create the safe, welcoming environment that makes SGC so special.

Inside the classrooms, learning is buzzing with excitement! Students are wrapping up their summer reading assignment on The Swiss Family Robinson, sparking thoughtful conversations and setting a strong academic tone for the year. In World Cultures, students watched their teachers cut open globes to better understand how map distortion shapes the way we view the world. Science students are reviewing lab safety and diving into the study of matter, comparing solids, liquids, and gases by exploring particle movement, shape, volume, and energy.

Math is off to an impressive start at every level. Accelerated students are exploring proportional relationships, Advanced/Compacted Math 6 is mastering multiplication and division with fractions and decimals, and On-Level

Math is strengthening foundational skills with prime factorization, order of operations, GCF, LCM, and division. These early lessons are laying the groundwork for a year of growth and success.

Our students are also building strength and teamwork in PE and Pre-Athletics, where the focus is on foundational movements, proper body positioning, and shared academic/athletic vocabulary that will benefit them through middle and high school athletics. In Technology Applications, students are gaining hands-on experience with Google tools like Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Slides, while also learning about digital citizenship through lessons on footprints, “netiquette,” and responsible technology use.

The arts are shining brightly at SGC! Art students are designing sketchbook covers that reflect their personal stories. Theatre students are practicing audience etiquette and creating scripts that show how respect and storytelling go hand in hand. Band students are beginning with the essentials of instrument care, while choir students are strengthening their voices, building confidence, and learning how to blend beautifully as a group. These programs are already laying the foundation for exciting performances ahead.

With the energy, talent, and spirit our students are bringing each day, we are truly building an incredible year full of learning, growth, and opportunity!

I can’t wait to watch these Eagles fly!

ARGYLE ISD EARNS TOP ACCOUNTABILITY

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) released the district and campus Accountability Ratings for the 20232024 and 2024–2025 school years on Aug. 15, 2025. The ratings from 2023-2024 were delayed due to legal proceedings.

Argyle ISD is once again proud to be recognized as an A-rated district, receiving an overall score of 90 out of 100 for the 2023-2024 school year and an overall rating of 92 out of 100 for the 2024-2025 school year. This achievement reflects the dedication and hard work of our students, staff, and community. However, we are much more than a STAAR test score.

Argyle ISD continues to excel beyond the scope of STAAR measurements, shining in academics, fine arts, and athletics, proudly carrying on a long-standing tradition of high achievement.

Moving forward, the District’s Collaborative Visioning Plan is focused on increasing academic rigor and emphasizing foundational core academic areas. This plan reinforces our commitment to supporting the whole child through meaningful opportunities in a safe and caring environment.

TXschools.gov has several features allowing visitors to better understand the

accountability ratings data. This includes a map feature that enables users to search for schools by address and compare schools across selected data points.

JRE Student Wins National Art Award

When Jane Ruestmann Elementary fifth grader

Rehanika Das put her creativity to paper, she never imagined it would take her all the way to the nation’s capital. But this summer, her artistic vision earned her first place in the prestigious America250 national art competition — a contest that drew thousands of entries from students across all 50 states, U.S. territories, and the District of Columbia.

and writing. For Rehanika, that meant channeling her imagination into a piece that stood out on the national stage. Her win didn’t just bring recognition — it also brought an unforgettable adventure.

The competition’s theme, “ What Does America Mean to You?,” invited students to reflect on their country through art

In July, Rehanika and her family were flown to Washington, D.C., where they experienced a whirlwind three-day trip. Highlights included an exclusive visit to the National Archives Vault— where some of America’s most treasured documents are kept—and a private tour of the Smithsonian’s National Zoo.

Rehanika’s achievement places her among the 75 first-place winners

Argyle ISD proudly unveils NEW DISTRICT LOGOS

Argyle ISD has a new brand!

The District is proud to unveil its new district-level logo, which was revealed to all teachers and staff during this year’s Convocation earlier this month.

The bold letter “A,” accented with a distinctive wing, is a visual link between our rich history and our vision for the future. The wing serves as a nod to our long-standing traditions, values, and achievements as Argyle Eagles, while also symbolizing the district’s determination to soar together to new heights.

The District will begin phasing in the new logo during the fall for all districtrelated resources.

Not to worry, the Eagle logo is not changing. This is simply the new branding for the district as it soon shifts to two middle schools next year and two high schools in 2027.

All seven campuses will continue using the traditional Eagle mascot, while the new district logo serves as a unifying symbol honoring our past and reflecting the growth and forward momentum of our schools and community.

The competition’s theme, “ What Does America Mean to You?,” invited students to reflect on their country through art & writing.

nationwide, each rewarded with once-in-a-lifetime field trips to iconic American historical and cultural sites this summer. Another 75 second-place winners earned $500 scholarships.

For the JRE community, Rehanika’s win is more than just a personal accomplishment—it’s a source of pride and inspiration. It shows what can happen when imagination meets opportunity.

Hello Hilltop Eagles!

We hope everyone is well and filled with excitement for the 2025–2026 school year!

Iam so proud to serve as the principal of Hilltop Elementary, and I am especially excited to return to the campus where I once taught and where my own children attended school. Hilltop holds a special place in my heart, and it is truly an honor to now lead this incredible group of educators and partner with our families to provide the very best learning experience for all our students from Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade.

At Hilltop, we are guided by the Argyle ISD Vision: To inspire students to reach their full potential as leaders, prepared to meet future challenges. This vision sets the tone for everything we do. Our District Mission reminds us of the “why” behind our work: Argyle ISD, a district built on tradition and values, is committed to providing an exceptional educational experience for each student through meaningful opportunities in a safe and caring environment. These words are not just statements on paper; they come to life each day through the dedicated work of our teachers, staff, and families.

Our campus is filled with passionate, talented educators who are committed to helping every student learn and grow in a supportive and inclusive environment. At Hilltop, we believe in building a strong foundation for lifelong learning by focusing on academics while also modeling and practicing the AISD Core Values of trust, respect, integrity, faith, wellness, kindness, pride, tradition, excellence, community, relationships, and engagement. These values guide our teaching, our decision-making, and the way we interact with one another.

We are excited to welcome our students back to campus, ready to learn, laugh, and create lasting memories. From opportunities such as Safety Patrol, Watch D.O.G.S., Senior Buddies, and HS PALS to special events, theme days, and cherished Hilltop traditions, our goal is to make school a place where every child feels safe, valued, and inspired to reach their fullest potential. These experiences, paired with rigorous academics, give our students the skills and confidence they need to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

Partnership with families is essential to our success. We know that when schools and families work hand in hand, students benefit in powerful ways. We encourage you to stay connected with us throughout the year, attend events, volunteer when possible, and maintain open lines of communication. Together, we can celebrate achievements, provide encouragement, and ensure that each student has the support they need to succeed.

The year ahead holds so much promise, and I cannot wait to see all that our Hilltop Eagles will accomplish. Thank you for your trust and continued support as we work together to make Hilltop the best place for kids to learn, grow, and lead.

Over these first two weeks, they have been working hard to adjust to new routines, meet new classmates, and build connections within their classrooms. It has been inspiring to see the way our Eagles have embraced learning from the very beginning of the year.

We also kicked off the school year with grade-level huddles where I had the chance to meet with students and share our new schoolwide Positive Behavior Initiative and Supports (PBIS) expectations. These huddles allowed us to set a strong foundation for a year of kindness, respect, and responsibility.

Inside the classrooms, learning is already off to a strong start. Students have been engaging in exciting hands-on science experiments that spark curiosity and critical thinking. Across grade levels, we’ve seen teamwork and collaboration shine through in group projects and classroom activities, reminding us that learning is not just about academics but also about building relationships and problem-solving skills together. In addition, our young writers are already hard at work, sharing their voices and ideas through creative writing activities that build confidence and strengthen their communication skills.

One of the new changes this year has been our car line system. While it’s always an adjustment to learn something new, each day has brought improvements. We are grateful to our parents for their patience and partnership as we fine-tune the process together. With teamwork and grace, the system is already running more smoothly, and we know it will continue to get better each week.

Our teachers deserve a huge shout-out for the heart and dedication they poured into preparing their classrooms. Each room has been transformed into a space where students feel safe, loved, and ready to learn. The creativity and intentional planning of our teachers have ensured that our Eagles not only feel welcome but also excited about the learning adventures ahead.

As we reflect on these first two weeks, one thing is clear: this is going to be an extraordinary year. Argyle West is a special place where excellence is not just a goal—it’s who we are. With the support of our families, the commitment of our staff, and the enthusiasm of our students, we are confident that the year ahead will be filled with growth, success, and countless moments to celebrate.

We are so proud of our Eagles and cannot wait to see all that they will accomplish. Thank you, Argyle West families, for entrusting us with your children and for partnering with us in their journey. Together, we will continue to soar to new heights!

Here’s to a fantastic year, Eagles—let’s make it the best one yet!

We were impressed and proud of your level of participation in visual art learning experiences at all grade levels.

The TAEA District of Distinction is a designation to be proud of as Argyle ISD is providing its students with a well-rounded education rich in creative opportunities that ensure success for all.

Brings Live Morning Coverage to WFAA

It was an exciting Friday morning before sunrise at Argyle High School to end the first week of school!

AHS welcomed WFAA Channel 8 to campus for a series of live cut-ins during the morning show. The visit provided a unique opportunity for students and teachers to experience the energy of live television before the start of the school day.

Reporter Dia Wall set up multiple live shots throughout the morning, showcasing the vibrant spirit of Argyle ISD at the end of the first week of school. Students eagerly engaged with the reporter, answering

questions, sharing their thoughts, and representing Eagle pride on air. AHS teacher Steven Orlowski and Deserae Good also had the chance to be interviewed, highlighting the strong sense of community and excitement for the new school year.

The live coverage not only gave students a behind-the-scenes look at how television news is produced, but also allowed the entire North Texas community to see the enthusiasm and excellence happening in Argyle. They featured the band, UIL academics, AHS Cheer, Majestics and the Eagle football team.

It was an unforgettable experience that combined learning, school spirit, and the thrill of live media—all before the first bell rang.

Welcome Back Eagles!

As we kick-off the new school year, there is an undeniable sense of excitement and possibility in the air at Jane Ruestmann Elementary.

I am thrilled to welcome back our students, families, and staff to what promises to be another incredible year of learning, growth, and community.

Looking back, the 2024–2025 school year was nothing short of remarkable. From the first day of school in our brand-new building to our students’ daily accomplishments, it was a year full of milestones and moments to celebrate. Our students demonstrated tremendous growth academically and made strides in every subject area. The hard work, dedication, and collaboration of our teachers, staff, and families made this possible. Together, we created a culture where curiosity is encouraged, questions are celebrated, and every child feels seen, supported, and empowered.

Our teachers and support staff went above and beyond to ensure each child’s success. From implementing innovative instructional strategies to creating engaging learning experiences, the focus on personalized learning allowed our students to thrive. The progress we witnessed was not limited to academics alone—our students also displayed remarkable growth in character and leadership. They learned the value of teamwork, resilience, and kindness, shaping the foundation for a strong and compassionate school community.

As we step into the 2025–2026 school year, the excitement is palpable. We have so much to look forward to including new friendships, enriching learning experiences, and opportunities to build upon the success of last year. Our commitment to academic excellence remains

steadfast, and we are prepared to continue fostering an environment where students are challenged, inspired, and supported every step of the way.

This year, our focus will continue to be on growth and innovation. We will build on the programs and strategies that proved successful while exploring new ways to inspire our students’ love for learning. From literacy and math to STEM and the arts, every area of the curriculum has been thoughtfully designed to engage students and encourage them to reach their highest potential.

At Jane Ruestmann Elementary, we recognize that a successful school year is a team effort. I am deeply grateful for the dedication of our teachers and staff, the support of our families, and, most importantly, the enthusiasm and curiosity of our students. Each day, we have the privilege of witnessing children discover their strengths, overcome challenges, and take pride in their accomplishments.

So, welcome back to the 2025–2026 school year! Together, we will continue to soar as a community of learners, innovators, and leaders. I am beyond excited for the year ahead and cannot wait to see all the ways our students will shine.

Here’s to a year filled with growth, joy, and success at Jane Ruestmann Elementary!
