We would like, even during this extraordinary situation, for our fantastic audience to still be able to encounter the world’s most outstanding and thrilling artists each evening – this time in their own homes. It is precisely for this reason that we have decided to unlock our media library for everyone over the weeks to come and – each night at the familiar times: 7 pm, 7.30 pm or 8 pm, depending on genre – open Müpa Budapest’s virtual concert hall by providing access to many live concerts (although without an audience) or an unforgettable performance from past years, which we’ll transmit on our website, as well as on the Bartók Spring website, Facebook page and YouTube channel.

We trust that, in this way, we will be able to make the evenings you are spending at home more pleasant and full of magical and uplifting moments.

For years, Budapest Ritmo has brought about great discoveries and remarkable encounters, and 2021 will be no exception to the rule. The special music of Károly Cserepes, which transplants the traditionalist efforts of the dance house movement of the 1970s into the culture of modern electronica, will be complemented by Gábor Karcis’s visual universe. Traditional melodies get an exciting new treatment at the concert of Tárkány Művek. Open your ears, Budapest Ritmo is waiting for you!

BUDAPEST RITMO 8 pm Bettika Quintet 9 pm Dresch String Quartet For years, Budapest Ritmo has brought about great discoveries and remarkable encounters, and 2021 will be no exception to the rule. The Bettika Quintet’s music embodies a fusion of genres, a sophisticated balance between poetry and song, the freedom of jazz and the cosiness of folk songs. Offering a perfect blend of Hungarian folk music and jazz, the Dresch String Quartet plays through the neon night at Epreskert in Attila Damokos’s concert film, which boasts magical visuals. Cimbaliband join forces with Alexandra Horváth and Máté Solymosi to bring you some thrilling Gypsy music. With their dark folk rock, Gábor Reisz and Bálint Szimler introduce the surrealistic world of their MORDÁI to Hotel Gellért, then Odd ID will crank up the mood in the jungle of Twentysix Budapest with their psychedelic music and some help from director Fanni Szilágyi. Open your ears, Budapest Ritmo is waiting for you!

The piece, which had its premiere in 1841, conquered the world with Adolphe Adam’s music.

This production promises to be really special: performed by the Ballet Company of Győr, this mystical, beautiful and chilling story now comes to new life with music by Félix Lajkó.

If he is the doyen of the early music movement, the world-famous conductor continues to be characterized by a tireless curiosity and energetic attitude. His albums have lost none of their freshness; made over three decades ago, his first recording of the St John Passion is still considered a reference point for the interpretation of the work.

MAN OF GOLD – WORLD PREMIERE AWARD-WINNER OF MÜPA’S COMPOSITION COMPETITION

Bence Farkas: Incidental music for the silent film, Man of Gold (director: Alexander Korda, 1918) Featuring: Győr Philharmonic Orchestra • Conductor: Gergely Dubóczky Bence Farkas’s work was an award-winner of Müpa Budapest’s autumn competition for composers, in the film music category. Alexander Korda’s classic of cinematic history presents a special challenge to the modern composer of incidental music: “This early silent film can easily prove demanding for today’s watcher: it seems slow-paced, but it is still difficult to follow; the actors keep making unusual gestures, the inserts break the sequence of images, and there are quite a few other technical solutions you can’t see in a modern film,” the composer said. “The greatest challenge is the composition itself: what can the style accommodate; does it facilitate reception; what is the weight of contemporary techniques to be; how can it be performed?

And will it work live? If I can answer these questions right, the performance can be enjoyable and exciting.”

From the beginning (2015), they sought not to confine themselves or their music to strictly defined genres. They blend the folk music of the Carpathian Basin with English-language beat folk, drawing their inspiration from the great names of the dance house and the beat movement.
