Multiplex Moments
Foreword
Since the launch of our first issue, we have achieved significant project milestones and continue to progress with some promising new business opportunities.
March was a particularly busy month for Multiplex, we celebrated the topping out of One Leadenhall, the bottoming out of Elephant and Castle, and the commencement of works at Western Yards and TV Centre Phase 2. These accomplishments are testament to your dedication and hard work, the strength of spirit that drives us forward as a company. We also received the results of the recent Wellbeing Survey, thank you to all of those who took the time to complete this. The survey results are currently being analysed and there will be further communications on this in the coming weeks.
We recently released our 2023 Annual Report which highlighted our strong performance last year and enjoyed a positive reception. With the completion of multiple projects and the acquisition of several new schemes, we are well positioned for continued success.
Looking ahead, we have the imminent completion of One Nine Elms and we are extremely confident on our ability to secure 75 London Wall and 50 Fenchurch Street. Both mark exciting developments for Multiplex and reflect our commitment to outperforming, delivering exceptional projects for our clients as standard.
None of this would be possible without all of you. Our new video series, ‘My Role at Multiplex’, launched in this issue, will shine the spotlight on each of your roles, providing insight into your day-today responsibilities, and fostering a deeper understanding of how each individual role contributes to our collective success.
We’re a great team - the stats speak for themselves. I look forward to achieving more together in 2024.

One Leadenhall - A Major Milestone
The team at One Leadenhall celebrated a major milestone in March with the topping out of the 35th storey, alongside our client Brookfield Properties.
Designed by Make Architects, the scheme will grace the City of London’s commercial district and skyline, providing a new workspace that sits adjacent to the Grade II-listed Victorian Leadenhall Market.
Over 350 people were in attendance to mark the occasion, with speeches from
Peter Clarke of Brookfield, Ken Shuttleworth of MAKE Architects, Wes Illingsworth of St.Helens Church, and Callum Tuckett and Andrew Feighrey of Multiplex.
Work commenced on site back in January 2021, marking our fourth project with Brookfield. It also represents our first construction management delivery of a commercial development in the UK.
From the outset, One Leadenhall presented significant logistical

challenges. Through the collective effort of the entire project team, these issues were mitigated successfully, resulting in the safe and efficient delivery of the project. Tactics included: developing a combined logistics approach with 8 Bishopsgate, the neighbouring site, keeping the local transport network moving, and the creation of an innovative basement construction sequence designed to preserve the stability of the Grade II listed Leadenhall Market. Western Yards Building 2 - Start on site
Work has started onsite at Building 2. The 50-storey, 250-apartment tower at Bankside Yards is the tallest residential tower currently under development in prime central London.
Native Land appointed us as main contractor on Building 2, which represents a glowing endorsement and extension of our pre-existing partnership. So far, we have completed the ground works, restored the historic railway arches and delivered Arbor, the development’s flagship office building, which is already more than 50% let.
Led by George Assimakopoulos, Building 2 is due for completion in late 2026.

The 2023 Gender Pay Gap Report was published at the end of March. The report is based on data from April 2023, which shows that 22.9% of our employees are female, which represents an increase of 2% from last year. We have also seen progress in decreasing the mean pay gap, reducing the gap by 3.8% from 2022, and we are also at a rate lower than 2021. Click the image below to read the report:

Graduate Assessment Centres
We’d like to say a huge thank you to all those who assessed and helped facilitate the graduate assessment centres.
We had brilliant feedback from candidates, who found the session insightful and inspiring. Several noted that they were made to feel very welcome, and that they enjoyed our assessment centre more than those of our competitors.
We are still interviewing remote candidates, but are delighted that all offers extended so far have been accepted.
You can look forward to meeting our 2024 cohort this September!
We’re pleased to be offering ‘Effective Conversations’ training workshops for our managers, a full day, in-person course which looks at:
• Preparing and structuring conversations with team members
• Feedback techniques
• Handling difficult conversations
• And more!
This is a lively and interactive session, where attendees have an opportunity to identify their own development needs and put the skills they’re acquiring into practice.
Colleagues who have already attended have said:
‘The topics were relevant and important and can all be utilised on a day-to-day basis.’
‘I have been to many management workshops over the last few years, and this felt by far the most beneficial.’
We will be running several sessions in Q2, and will be contacting our line managers directly inviting you to join, but if you’d like to ensure a place or learn more, please get in touch with Kristopher Medlang at Kristopher.medlang@multiplex.global

Installation of Floor Paint and Swimming Pool Q-Tips
In this issue we look at some of the recommendations from one of our completed projects. These should be adhered to across all current and future projects, to ensure we’re learning from our experiences and moving forward proactively. Installation of Floor Paint highlights the key checks that should always be carried out when preparing to apply a floor
coating product. These have been added to MBuild as Quality Critical Tasks (QCTs) and they should be verified for applicable areas prior to, and during the completion of works.
Swimming Pool Product Selection covers some steps that should be followed to ensure the compatibility of products when installing a swimming pool. It is the first
Head Office Meeting Rooms Refresh
in a series of Q-Tips that will cover this area of high risk and technical difficulty.
The Technical Quality Team welcome any key lessons learnt from your projects in 2024 that can be shared across the business. If you have any Q-Tip suggestions, please email Sebastian Reid
Following the success of our internal meeting rooms refresh, we have now commenced works on our external rooms. While the process has been underway, we encountered some teething issues, which have since been addressed to ensure a smoother implementation going forward.
We have completed installations in medium-sized external meeting rooms and are targeting a completion date for large rooms in April. We understand the importance of having fully functional and upgraded meeting spaces, and we appreciate your patience as we work towards enhancing the overall meeting experience.
Data only SIMs in iPads
As part of our continuous efforts to optimise resources and streamline services, we would like to inform you that we have been deactivating data-only SIM cards for iPads across Multiplex. This decision is aimed at enhancing efficiency within Multiplex, allowing us to allocate resources more effectively. We understand the importance of seamless connectivity for your work and collaboration needs. To ensure uninterrupted access, we encourage you to utilise on-site Wi-Fi whenever possible. We recognise this change may impact your current setup, and want to assure you that our team is ready to assist you during this transition. If you have any concerns or require assistance in adapting to this change, please reach out to MyIT.

ESG
Let’s talk about upskilling:
Did you know that Multiplex have memberships in place with industry partners UKGBC and the Supply Chain Sustainability School? These partnerships give us the opportunity to enhance our own skills and knowledge as well as that of our wider supply chain.
The Supply Chain Sustainability School is a completely free service to all employees. The UKGBC offers free materials as well as various paid courses. The content offers a wide range of topics including sustainability, diversity, modern slavery, inclusion and respect. It also offers learning modules and materials to support the delivery of our ESG Strategy and ensure a sustainable future for all.
Biodiversity Volunteering Days
Both the UKGBC and the Supply Chain Sustainability School also offer a platform for us to collaborate and share knowledge with the wider industry as we head towards a net-zero economy.
Please see below resources available:
• E-learning modules
• Training and workshops
• Beginner, intermediate and advanced level resources
• Online and in-person courses
• Webinars and more…
Following the success of last year’s biodiversity volunteering days, which accumulated over 500 volunteering hours, we are excited to announce that we are continuing our partnership with the RSPB and Idverde.
Volunteering dates for 2024 have now been agreed with Project Directors for our London projects, as outlined in the table at Hammersmith Community Garden, Rainham Marshes and Burgess Park. Details for volunteering opportunities in Glasgow will be shared soon by Callum Scott.
We look forward to continuing our efforts to support biodiversity and conservation in these ecologically valuable spaces in and around London. If you are interested in joining us for your project volunteering day, please contact your Sustainability Manager.
If you want to find out more about what these resource hubs have to offer, or which courses might be relevant for your role, why not register to receive the UKGBC newsletters here. Internal Committees
Diversity & Inclusion
In 2024, we will continue to support diversity, inclusion, and belonging in the workplace through new initiatives. Keep an eye out for updates from the Veterans Committee and Women’s Network Group throughout the year. Our Wellbeing Committee are putting specific emphasis on raising awareness of Neurodiversity across all project and head office locations.
In addition to celebrating Pride in June, we will also recognise the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) in May.
UKWN
Stay tuned for communications regarding this, as well as the opportunity to join our Outperforming Pride Employee Network Group, which originated in Multiplex in Australia last year but is now expanding globally within the company.
Lastly, we are looking to establish a UK Cultural Diversity Network Group, which will focus on celebrating employees’ cultural and ethnic backgrounds, including events like Black History Month and other culturally significant occasions. More details on this will be provided in the coming months.
The UKWN held a successful International Women’s Day event which focused on parenthood and professional life. Thank you to all the speakers, Narjes Jafari, Yasmin Podesta, and Sorcha Doran who shared their personal experiences, and to all those who attended.
To continue the conversation, the next episode of the podcast delves into Maternity and Paternity Leave.
In the coming weeks, the committee will also be doing a roadshow to visit each site and raise awareness on the Multiplex policies on sexual harassment and to promote positive behaviours. This is in line with the feedback from our survey, where almost 75% of sitebased females answered ‘yes’ or ‘prefer not to say’ when asked if they have experienced some form of gender discrimination or bias.
Lastly, the UK Women’s Network is setting its sights on the Construction News Inspiring Women in Construction Awards and the Design & Build Women in Construction Awards. If you have any nominations or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to come get in touch at ukwomensnetwork@multiplex.global

Lighthouse Charity Walk
This year returning for the third year!
The annual lighthouse walk will take place on Thursday 23rd May, starting at the TV Centre site office. From there, we will be walking past all our London project sites, before finishing up at head office. The distance for 2024 is approximately 23km – no mean feat!
We will have three different start times this year, allowing people to go at their own pace:
10:00am - those who want to go a bit slower.
11:00am - Intermediate walkers
12:00pm - those who would like to hit a personal best!
Estimated walk time is 4 – 6 hours, depending on what pace you’d like to take it. All are welcome!
We remind everyone that this is an awareness walk, not a race! A high vis vest is mandatory. Please wear your own if possible. Hard Hat, Boots and additional PPE is at your discretion. Please be careful if you choose boots, and ensure you have alternate shoes.
This year we are asking offices to fundraise as projects/teams. Each project/team will have to raise a minimum of £100 in order to take part in the walk itself. Please note, you do not have to walk with the team you fundraised with. The team with the most money raised will win a prize!
You must walk in at least pairs and carry water with you to participate. Look out for the posters and QR code on your site to sign up! Glasgow teams, please look out for local information from your wellbeing team.
We’re excited to introduce our new series, ‘My Role at Multiplex’, where we’ll be spotlighting the diverse roles across our business and the talented individuals who occupy them.
At Multiplex, we believe that our people define our business. These videos aim to showcase the depth of knowledge and expertise within our company, giving you insight into the work your colleagues do, how it aligns with your own role, and its impact on the broader business.
