Thank you for attending our annual Night of Knights! This is the largest annual fundraiser for Mount Michael Benedictine School. This year our theme is Saturday Knight Live!
The Saturday Night Live show has been on the air for over forty-eight years. During those years, we have seen some of the most hilarious, irreverent, and, in some cases, timeless, skits, routines and characters. Our Night of Knight’s theme this year focuses on taking those funny and memorable routines and characters and celebrating them. This is a night to not only celebrate Saturday Night Live but also all things Mount Michael!
There is something to be said about a program that is live. The heightened energy to pull off something like that before a television audience that numbers in the millions must be stressful but also very rewarding. Having you all here, live and in person, and joining us together in a post-covid experience is important to us. The Benedictine value of community is foundational to our school and by being live, and in person, adds to the wonderful experience we call the Night of Knights.
To sustain one of the longest running shows on network television is a huge accomplishment. Offering the premium college preparatory education that is Mount Michael to young men in the Omaha metro area and beyond takes a lot also. Mount Michael Benedictine School has been around over fifty years. If you include the minor seminary that preceded, then we are talking about history much longer than fifty years. There are hundreds of our alumni throughout the entire world. We have a tremendously long and vibrant history and we will have an even longer future thanks to the caring and wonderful donors who support us, our students, teachers, and monastic members.
A night like this would not be possible without the help of our many volunteers. We want to thank them and to those who helped by donating the various auction items. I want to recognize and thank our co-chairs of tonight’s event: Erin and Steve Albers, parents of Luke ’24 and Megan and Brian Busenbark, parents of Andrew ‘24. This team of co-chairs has been working on this event for the past year and has done a tremendous job putting it all together! This year, I also want to recognize and express my deepest gratitude to Jeanette and Bill Behrendt for being our Honorary Chairs.
I also want to recognize our advancement staff who have been working tirelessly on tonight’s event! Without them this evening would not have been possible. Thanks to our Director of Advancement, Mr. Chris Knauf, and the rest of the development team consisting of Mr. Seth Pierce, Mrs. Melissa Gathje, Mr. John Von Dollen and Mrs. Lynn Brannen. Their work has been incredible.
I hope everyone has a wonderful night! Thank you for your generosity and for being here! It is through your support that we can provide the premium Catholic, Benedictine, high school education to our young men. This past year we had one of our largest enrollments ever. The interest in Mount Michael is the highest ever. Please know how much we appreciate your generosity, ongoing support, and thoughtfulness!
Go Knights!
Thank you, God bless and take care,
Welcome to the 34th Annual Night of Knights! As the 2023 event chairs, it is our privilege to present Saturday Knight Live. We’re so glad you’re here to share this special evening!
Tonight, we celebrate everything that makes Mount Michael such a unique place. From its foundation in Benedictine values to the faculty and staff who challenge our students to grow intellectually and spiritually, Mount Michael provides our young men an environment where they can grow as scholars, leaders, and brothers. Tonight, we recognize and honor all who support this tradition. The Mount is truly a special community, and we are blessed to be a part of it.
As the School’s most important fundraising event of the year, Night of Knights brings us together to support the place our boys call home. All proceeds bridge the gap between tuition income and actual educational costs, helping Mount Michael maintain its commitment to excellence and deliver an exceptional high school experience to every student, today and tomorrow.
This event wouldn’t be possible without the tireless efforts of the entire planning team and all of our amazing donors and volunteers throughout the community - our parents, faculty, staff, alumni, students, and the monastic community. We’re eternally grateful for your generous contributions of time, talents and resources. A very special thank you to Abbot Michael Liebl and Dr. David Peters for their leadership and to the Development Office for their support.
And now…Live from Elkhorn, it’s Saturday Knight!
Erin and Steve Albers Megan and Brian Busenbark Luke ‘24 Andrew ‘24The Behrendt family has been part of the Mount Michael family since 1994. Family is a key and important concept to the Behrendts’. As a whole, they immediately embraced the Benedicine value of community and got involved with sports, activities, and volunteering. They were part of the family and Mount Michael was part of theirs. As we spoke with Jeanette and Bill about honoring them this evening, their first reponses to us were wanting to tell us about their sons and their families.
Back in 1994, the School was still 100% boarding and their oldest son, Nicholas, enrolled as a freshman. He graduated in 1998 and went on to St. Louis University, UNMC, Ohio State, and the University of Colorado and now works as a Fetal Surgeon in Denver. His wife, Becky, teaches at Regis Jesuit High School and they have three children: Hank '26; Stella; and Brooks. Together, Jeanette and Bill refer to them as the Denver Behrendts. Their second son, Joseph, graduated from the Mount in '02, and then from Creighton University in '06. Joe currently lives in Bangkok, Thailand with his children Will and Susie. He works there as an international entrepreneur. These three comprise the Thai Behrendts. Jeanette and Bill's youngest son, John, graduated in 2005 and then graduated from Kansas State University. John currently works at Union Pacific here in Omaha in Human Resources and his wife, Lindsey, is an Optometrist at Exclusively Eyecare. They have twin daughters, Emery and Avery, who just turned a year old! Jeanette and Bill call this group the Oakley Behrendts. Taken together, Mount Michael is honored to call all the Behrendt family Knights!
Jeanette and Bill shared that they are honored "to be honored" at this year's Night of Knights. Over the years they have remained associated with Mount Michael in a variety of ways. Jeanette's contributions range from being the first concessionaire at what was known as the "Sugar Shack" at the Mount Michael Baseball field, to handling the seating at Night of Knights for over 20 years, to a stint as Head of the Mothers Club, to a member of the Parental Advisory Board. Bill was a contributor to the Mount Michael Baseball program for over 10 years and served on the Baseball Board and as the "voice of the Knights" from the press box for much of that time. He also served on the Mount Michael Board of Directors for five years and he and Jeanette co-chaired NOK in 2005. Each are still active supportors of Mount Michael on and off the field. We thank them for their generosity, their time, and especially for their commitment to, and embracement of, the Mount Michael family. Once a Knight, Always a Knight!
