Welcome to Mount Michael Benedictine School’s Annual Night of Knights!
Tonight marks our 36 annual Night of Knights event! We are here to celebrate all the things Mount Michael Many of you in attendance are part of such a diverse and supportive group We have alumni, spouses, current and past parents, current and past staff, current and past teachers, many friends, and donors What is amazing is how much everyone cares about the Mount and all that it represents This is a celebration! th
This is such an important night for us. We are so very thankful for the support. Our operational budget is dependent upon this night. So, besides enjoying our incredibly fun 1980s theme, All Knight Long, you are supporting and giving to an organization that so many care and love.
Over this past school year, many alumni have been invited to give guest presentations at our weekly chapel time To a person, these men, no matter their age, talk about the impact of their Benedictine education The Rule of St Benedict and the impact on their lives is evident We have a strong focus on our Benedictine values of community, hospitality, integrity, moderation, and service Yes, Mount Michael offers so much with our rigorous college preparatory curriculum and the ability for students to participate in a variety of extracurriculars. But it truly is the living of the Benedictine values that they experienced at Mount Michael that impacts them throughout their life.
There are some people I would like to recognize that have helped to make this evening possible. First, our event chairs, Beth and Charlie Boone, parents of Will ’27 Beth and Charlie have worked over this past year on Night of Knights, and it shows! What an amazing job! Our vice chairs are Beth and Dan Gard’04, parents of Joey ’28 They have been working with the Boones and will be our event chairs next year Our alumni chairs are Lori and Dr. B.J. Wilson ’84, parents of Andrew ’19, who have collaborated with our alumni getting ready for tonight We are happy our Honorary Chair, Wendy Himberger Deane, mother of Jason ’90, Andrew ’95 and Thomas ’99, is with us Wendy chaired the very first Night of Knights in 1989.
We want to welcome, and thank, Archbishop George J. Lucas for being our Guest of Honor this evening. Archbishop Lucas turned 75 this past year and had to tend his resignation to Pope Francis. The archbishop will continue to serve in his capacity until the pope names his replacement Archbishop Lucas has been the shepherd of the Omaha Archdiocese for the past sixteen years Welcome Archbishop, we are honored you are here!
Lastly, but certainly not least, I would like to thank our advancement staff for all the behind the scenes work in preparing for this evening They have put in a tremendous amount of time over this past year, and we are very proud of all their work and planning. This includes: Seth Pierce, our director of events, John Von Dollen, our director of advancement, Melissa Gathje, director of advancement operations, and Hailey Schooler, our advancement assistant.
Have a great time tonight reliving the wonderful decade of the 1980s and supporting the mission of Mount Michael Benedictine School Without your constant and dedicated support, we would not be here! Thank you so much!
God bless you all,
David J. Peters, Ed.D. Head of School

Tonight, we're flashing back to celebrate the Mount Michael community – from the monastic community, our righteous faculty, our bodacious staff, and our entire community who recognize the value of a Mount Michael education. Thank you to alumni, current and former parents, grandparents, friends of Mount Michael and countless committed individuals for the impact you make on this community Mount Michael is truly a special place and it is a privilege to be part of this community
Night of Knights is our school’s premier annual fundraising event The event is an opportunity for each of us to recognize and support Mount Michael’s ongoing commitment to excellence and ensure a solid foundation for the future. Funds raised through Night of Knights directly impact our students and build a legacy for years to come.
Thank you to all those who have contributed their time and resources to making this event a success Your generosity is much appreciated We thank Abbot Michael Liebl and Dr David Peters for their leadership and the Development Office for their support Thank you to the parents, faculty, staff, alumni, students, and the monastic community for your countless contributions.
So, grab your leg warmers, tease your hair, and get ready to bid like a boss! It's gonna be a night you won't forget!
As Lionel Ritchie says in his iconic 1983 song: “Well, my friends, the time has come, to raise the roof and have some fun. All Night Long!”

It has been a blessing and an honor to have been associated with Mount Michael Benedictine High School from its earliest days The school – previously Saint John Seminary – opened in the fall of 1970 My brother Dave, the first of six Wilson boys to graduate from The Mount, began his freshman year in the fall of 1974 I could sense back then, even though only 8 years old, that the school was a special place In 1980, I became the fourth Wilson brother to attend The Mount My graduating class (‘84) of 28 developed a closeness – now widely known as “the brotherhood” – formed by four years of boarding together and hardened in the crucible of the rigorous academics and strict discipline provided by the Benedictine community.
Though my family, especially my parents Bernie and Rose, have given so much to The Mount over the years, we have received so much more in return. I will always consider my Mount Michael Benedictine education as one of the greatest gifts I have ever received. It was a gift that Lori and I were proud to give to our son Andrew (2019), and one that we know prepared him academically, socially, and spiritually for success in life.
Lori and I are humbled and honored to serve as Night of Knights Alumni CoChairs this year We thank you all for your support of, and trust in the school as it continues to fulfill its mission of preparing young men for success in life, while instilling in them timeless Benedictine values God bless and have a good night!
Ut in omnibus glorificetur Deus
