MOUNT MICHAEL BENEDICTINE SCHOOL NIGHT OF KNIGHTS 2022: DEUCES WILD! Welcome to our annual Night of Knights! If all goes according to the plan, we are live and inperson for this event. We have not been together since 2019. I want to commend our students, parents and families for their support and adherence to the many safety steps we have had to take. I am proud of our students and staff for their commitment to our protocols and procedures. Night of Knights has a tremendous history of success. Over the years, our donors have come together to support the mission of Mount Michael Benedictine School. Their generosity and deep sense of care have come through year after year. While Night of Knights has been virtual these past two school years, we realized a highly successful fundraising event, even though we were not together physically. What I have missed is the chance to see so many of our parents, both current and past, and so many of our alumni, recent and past, all enjoying the night together. The community aspect of Night of Knights is essential. By being together we share the experience of a worthwhile and valuable event. Our theme this year is Deuces Wild! Anyone who has sat down to enjoy a poker card game understands what deuces wild means - the number 2 can carry any value, or meaning, the owner of the hand wishes. The lowly number 2 has now become the most important card in the deck. How great is that? It makes the standard poker card game a little more exciting and fun! To win at poker, one needs to hold the highest hand. By being in the calendar year of 2022 we are looking at a lot of twos! We hope that this event, concentrating on the deuces being wild, will be a high point for all of you in attendance! Along with the increase in fun we also hope for a renewal of sorts; to reconnect with classmates and friends we may have not seen in years; so please have fun this evening! I want to thank our chairs, Lesley Brandt and JJ Crouse and Katie and Rob Zimmerman. We would not be here if it were not for them. They have spent many hours this past year getting ready for today! I want to also thank our advancement office; they have been working and planning Night of Knights this entire year, too. Thank you to Mrs. Sarah McMahon, our events coordinator, Mr. Matt Hoppe, our advancement director, and our entire advancement staff: Mrs. Melissa Gathje, Mr. John Von Dollen and Mrs. Lynn Brannen. I want to thank our wonderful monastic community, who support us both in their work and in their prayers: Abbot Michael, Fr. John, Fr. Louis, Fr. Dan, Fr. Stephen, Br. August, Br. Jerome, Br. Billy, Br. Luke, Br. Roger, Br. Mark, Abbot Theodore, Fr. Nathaniel and Br. Benedict! I hope everyone has a wonderful night! Thank you for your generosity and for being here! It is through your support that we can provide the premium Catholic, Benedictine, high school education to our young men. This past year we had one of our largest enrollments ever. Welcome to the 33rd annual Night of Knights! We are honored to serve as your Chairs for this event and grateful you can join us for Deuces Wild in 2022. Tonight we celebrate the Mount Michael community – the monastic community that keeps our school firmly grounded in Benedictine values, our faculty who challenge our students to grow intellectually and spiritually, our staff that provides an environment that shapes our students into leaders and forms the bonds of brotherhood, and our entire community that recognizes the value of a Mount Michael education. Thank you to everyone involved for the impact you make on this community. The Mount is truly a special place, and it is a privilege to be part of it. Night of Knights is our premier fundraising event of the year. It is an opportunity for alumni, current and former parents, and supporters to recognize Mount Michael’s ongoing commitment to excellence and ensure a solid foundation for the future. Funds raised directly impact our students and build a legacy for years to come. Thank you to all those that have contributed their time and resources to making this event a success. NIGHT OF KNIGHTS TICKETS We’re hosting our event in person this year and we couldn’t be more excited! All silent auction bidding will be done virtually through our website – www.nightofknights.org – whether you are at the event or bidding from afar. Tickets are now on-sale and end on March 25, 2022. Like everything with Night of Knights, you’ll buy tickets online through our Night of Knights site www.nightofknights.org. Each ticket includes a meal, hosted bar, wine at your table and the opportunity to enjoy the event.
RAFFLE TICKETS We hope you will join us in purchasing raffle tickets for our 2022 Night of Knights fundraiser! Raffle tickets are 1 (one) for $20 or three (3) for $50. This gives you a chance to win a prize of $5,000, $2,500 or $1,000. Winners will be drawn on April 2, 2022 and the winners need not be present to win. You can pay via debit card online at www.nightofknights.org. Or, print out the raffle ticket voucher, include your method of payment and send both to the Mount Michael Advancement Office by Friday, April 1, 2022. A numbered raffle ticket stub will be mailed to you as proof of purchase. As per Nebraska state law, we can only accept cash, check or debit card as payment for raffle tickets. SILENT AND LIVE AUCTION INFORMATION SILENT AUCTION All of our silent auction items will be available for bidding beginning on March 21 at noon through our website – www.nightofknights.org. Bidding for silent auction will continue until 8 p.m. on the evening of Night of Knights. Thanks to our generous community, we have so many amazing silent auction packages this year! We encourage you to bid early and often. You will bid online at www.nightofknights.org prior and at the event. If you do not have a device to use to bid – head to the Help Desk and someone there can assist you!
LIVE AUCTION 1. All live auction items will be available for preview at www.nightofknights.org beginning March 28. We encourage you to check them out and then get ready for an exciting evening of fun and bidding on April 2! 2. The live auction will begin immediately following dinner and will continue uninterrupted until all items have been sold. 3. Each auction item is numbered. The auctioneer will call out the numbered item and give a brief description. Bidders can accept a bid called by the auctioneer by raising their bid card. A runner will bring a receipt to the successful bidder who will sign his/her name and bid number, which verifies a successful bid. 4. Unless otherwise noted, all live auction items are required to be used within one year of the date purchased.
MOBILE BIDDING 1. All bids for Super Silent and Silent Auction items will be done electronically with a smart phone. 2. For guests without smart phones, head to the Help Desk and someone will assist you. 3. Each auction item will have incremented bidding amounts. 4. Guests will be notified by a text message if they are outbid on an item. Winning bidders will also be notified by text message.

THE KELLY ‘SJS AND DAWN BERENS FAMILY Kelly is a 1969 graduate of the school, which was St. John Vianney Seminary at the time. Dawn and Kelly are the parents of Shawn and Troy Berens who graduated from Mount Michael in 1988. Troy’s son, Max, graduated from Mount Michael in 2020. During his time at the Mount, Kelly says that the people who were most influential were “undoubtedly, Coach Jim Kane, Fr. Benedict Dohle, and my fellow students.” Coach Kane and Fr. Benedict alike taught Kelly discipline, preparation, the willingness to move forward, and how to understand views other than your own. Kelly made strong relationships with his classmates. “Culture, even back in the 60’s was far more advanced. We all cared about succeeding academically.” The Berens family have been strong supporters of Mount Michael. In 1979, Kelly founded a law firm that became known as Berens & Tate. After 30 years of practice, the firm merged with Jackson Lewis, the largest employment and labor law firm in the country.

THE TOM ‘SJS AND PATTY HASTINGS FAMILY Tom Hastings has always felt privileged to have had his Mount Michael Benedictine experience during the School’s early formative years. He developed many lifelong friendships and lived in community with all three of Mount Michael’s Abbots. Walking into St. John’s College Seminary in 1967 and becoming part of the Mount Michael Family had a huge effect on Tom’s life. The communal life of prayer and meditation at Mount Michael provided Tom solace amongst the world’s turmoil. After St. John’s Seminary, Tom went on to graduate from Wayne State College. He married Patty Krahmer in 1971. They have three sons: David and his wife Lindsay, their two children: Jagger, currently a senior at Mount Michael, and Ava; Son Christopher; Son Patrick and his wife Kelly, and their two children Laural and Grant. Tom and Patty founded TSL Companies in 1981. TSL is a family-owned International Shipping and Logistics Company with 113 offices in 85 countries.
