The Tree

“I’m casting shadows!” thought the tree watching its leaves creating dapples on the ground as its branches swayed gently in the breeze. “It had been listening to the tweeting birds as they sang their springtime ballads. Many birds had visited the tree; some had even made their nests in it making the tree feel proud that they’d found it a place of safety. The tree loved the Spring as it’d found itself growing young green leaves during this season of new growth. The winter had been cold and harsh, and the tree had been saddened by the loss of its autumn colours as it’d watched its leaves begin to fall to the ground before becoming crispy and brown then blown away by the wind to some unknown place until its leaves grew back again. The tree had liked the snow of winter though, finding itself trimmed with its seasonal winter white. The tree always cringed when hearing rumours spread on the wind by the whispering leaves of the other trees. It’d heard of how some trees had been cut down for various reasons and how only nature could hear their agonising cries. “Idol gossip!!!“had thought the tree always dismissing these frightening tales. As the tree continued to enjoy bathing itself under the warm glowing sun, a young boy approached and sat under its tall sturdy structure. The boy seemed to be lost in thought. The tree, sensing the boys' troubles, swayed a little to get the boys attention. The boy glanced up and watched as the rays of sunlight filtered down through its leaves. The boy began to feel a sense of peace as the tree gave out its mystical energies. The boy gave a smile and felt a sense of wellbeing before he went on his way.
