Primary teaching is an open space for anyone Our most memorable role models are our primary school teachers. They are the heroes who teach us how to read and write, comfort us when we fall in the playground and help us learn our lines for the school assembly. Our formative years at Primary School forge us as human beings and it’s so important for all members of our communities to be represented by teachers who children can relate to.
The Daily Mile gets children out and active The Daily Mile™ initiative aims to get children out and active for 15 minutes a day, during curriculum time. It was founded by a Headteacher and can help schools: • Support mental wellbeing • Improve concentration • Boost attainment • Increase staff morale and wellbeing • Lower obesity rate • Meet Ofsted’s Cultural and Social Development standards, plus Personal Development, Behaviour and Welfare standards • Contribute to PE premium activity targets
The Daily Mile is not only free, but also super-simple to implement and will contribute to the Chief Medical Officer’s guidelines of a minimum 60 minutes physical activity a day. The good news is that there’s free support available from MSP for schools across Merseyside – MSP is funded by the National Lottery and is the only strategic organisation dedicated to unlocking the power of sport and physical activity across the whole of the Liverpool City Region.
LJMU’s School of Education is spearheading work with local communities to engage more diversity in the teaching. They aim to break down boundaries and demonstrate the benefits of teaching as a rewarding career. As Adam Vasco, former Deputy head teacher and now a lecturer in Primary Education says: “we want students from all backgrounds to feel at home and to believe they have access to opportunities to build a strong, thriving and rewarding career in teaching”. Macmillan’s Coffee Morning 2021 Raise your mug for Macmillan Cancer Support’s annual fundraiser Macmillan’s Coffee Morning is an annual event dedicated to bringing people together over a cuppa to raise vital funds for people living with cancer. This year the official event date is Friday 24th September but a Coffee Morning can be held at any time. Whatever your reason to host, no reason is too big or too small, and will help us directly support people living with cancer. Every penny raised at a Coffee Morning helps Macmillan to provide support for people with cancer, who need it now more than ever.
