Wokingham Borough Foster Carers, Carla and Matt: “The Wokingham fostering team were so kind and welcoming and made us feel at ease from the very beginning. We really did like our training and felt it prepared us perfectly. Whilst challenging, it was good to be around others who shared our passion. We’re now proud to say that we are foster carers for an absolutely lovely sibling group of three who have enriched our lives already. Our own children have really enjoyed their part in helping them settle in and whilst there are challenges at times, we can honestly say we are looking forward to what the future brings for us all.”

St George’s students support two animal charities
St George’s School Windsor Castle were thrilled to welcome Professor Anica Zeyen, disability inclusion expert and volunteer for Guide Dogs, along with her guide dog Maisie, back to school this term to collect a cheque for over £400 raised for the organisation by the students. After learning about the vital role of guide dogs on Maisie’s previous visit to the school as part of their Unit of Inquiry into ‘Light and Sound’, the Year 1 children decided to hold a bake sale to raise money for this life-changing charity. Dogs are clearly close to the St George’s students’ hearts, with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home also chosen by the children as this year’s House Charity. In the same week the cheque was presented to Guide Dogs, the school delivered a bumper collection of donations from across the school community to Battersea, including tins of food, blankets and toys.
“The strong sense of community spirit which makes St George’s such a special place was on full display this week,” said Kevin Wills, Senior Deputy Head. “Developing an appreciation of our shared responsibility for the world around us sits at the heart of our pioneering International Baccalaureate curriculum. Perhaps a contributing factor in the exciting news that we have been selected as one of the ‘Top 100 Independent Schools in the World’ by this year’s Spear’s Schools Index!”
