to the Michaelmas Term Monkton Community events programme
It is a pleasure to welcome you to this term’s What’s On guide. I hope those of you who are new to Monkton will find this edition useful and informative, and that it gives you a flavour of all the exciting events that take place across the whole of our community.
The major events for the academic year are spearheaded by the annual House Music Festival at The Forum, which this year will take place slightly later in October. The event is a particular highlight of the Michaelmas Term, providing the opportunity for new members of the school to bond with one another while they settle into life at Monkton.
Our Expressive Arts department will also offer a number of other treats for the senses including the Senior Production of Chicago and Informal Drama Performance at the Senior School and the Year 7 play and nativities at the Prep School.
We look forward to more opportunities for sporting success this year with a calendar full of girls hockey and boys rugby fixtures, in addition to cross country competitions, and competing at the South West Schools Biathlon Championships at the end of the term.
Our other co-curricular activities continue to flourish and enhance our pupils’ all-round development by offering
learning opportunities outside of the classroom and this term will see another ‘Wild Monkton’ Day and a Wellbeing/ Sustainability Day. We will also have pupils taking part in the ever popular Greenpower Grand Prixs, the Chaplaincy Big Event, the Year 5 CYE Outdoor Education Trip and after a four year gap due to COVID, a trip to Fisherman’s Rest in Malawi.
We will also be welcoming a number of guest speakers for what is set to be an inspiring term ahead. Speakers include finance coach and entrepreneur, Bola Sol, social entrepreneur, philanthropist and homeless campaigner, Josh Littlejohn, MBE, and author of the ‘Shortest History of Germany’, James Hawes.
I hope to meet some of you at these events and I am particularly looking forward to welcoming our new families to the School who are enjoying the Monkton experience for the first time. I hope everyone settles smoothly and quickly into life at our school.
