The Value of Eyewear

= SPECTR Eyewear Value Formula:

Style Return per Hour

Price

Wearing Time

What’s the value of a pair of glasses? Does the value of a pair of glasses equal the price you pay? Then yes – a beautiful frame is valuable. Period. And when you add high-quality lenses, the cost can easily reach four figures. Sounds like luxury? It is. But is it expensive? That depends on your logic – and your perspective. After all, you wear your glasses all day, every day. They’re a medical device and a highly visible one at that. If you apply the SPECTR Eyewear Value Formula, you’ll quickly see: even the most extravagant frame becomes an easy yes.

Our formula: divide the purchase price by the wearing time. Let’s say you wear your glasses for three years, 16 hours a day. That’s 17,520 hours of use. Even with a €1,000 pair, the Eyewear Style Return breaks down to just 5.7 cents per hour. Cheaper than parking. And infinitely more stylish. But numbers aren’t everything. What truly counts is that amazing feeling when you’ve found the perfect pair – the one that just feels right. And that’s something you can’t measure in cents or seconds. That’s why in this issue, we offer plenty of inspiration. From Cape Town to London, from Barcelona to the Zugspitze, our shoots showcase a stunning range of high-quality styles. And because style knows no age, we’re dedicating a brand-new platform to our youngest eyewear fans: the first-ever SPECTR KIDS Magazine.

Enjoy the read, the math – and the love.

MASUNAGA AND BARTON PERREIRA WITH LUSH GREEN LENSES

Forest Hues

Green calms. Green grounds. And green looks good. No other color soothes body and mind quite like the lush green of a forest. So why not project that same effect directly onto the eyes – stylishly captured through green-tinted lenses? For our shoot with model Rebecca from IZAIO Management, we selected two standout designs: iconic styles from BARTON PERREIRA and MASUNAGA that show just how refined relaxed clarity can look.

BARTON PERREIRA »Armstrong«

Delicate, precise, elegant –the »Armstrong« perfectly embodies BARTON PERREIRA’s understated sophistication. Crafted from ultra-lightweight Japanese titanium, this model features a finely drawn double bridge and subtly engraved temples. The green gradient lenses complete the look with a calm, deliberate statement – made for design purists with taste.

MASUNAGA »Torcular«

The »Torcular« is a statement of quiet strength. Perfectly round lenses meet sculptural, hexagonal temples – a striking blend of precision and poetry. The frame, crafted from premium titanium and available in gold or grey, enhances its timeless appeal. Paired with green lenses, it becomes a standout piece – highly contemporary, yet effortlessly wearable in both sunglass and optical form.

ETNIA BARCELONA’S

NEW S/S 2025 STYLES

Where better to unveil the latest styles from ETNIA BARCELONA than in the beating heart of the brand’s own hometown? For this season’s shoot, our team journeyed to the vibrant metropolis on the Mediterranean coast, capturing the most coveted new designs right where the story began.

For Spring/Summer 2025, ETNIA BARCELONA presents the next evolution of its premium line: Chroma – a bold redefinition of color, form, and texture. This editorial immerses us in the essence of the brand – deeply rooted in its native city, yet unapologetically forward-looking. More than eyewear, the Chroma collection is a manifesto: an invitation to see, feel, and experience color as emotion. As expression. As identity.

Transcending the traditional role of sunglasses and optical frames, this collection transforms them into unmistakable statements of creativity and character. Drawing inspiration from saturated tones and sculptural forms, Chroma blends timeless sophistication with progressive design. Each piece is meticulously crafted from refined, highgrade acetates – featuring striking geometric silhouettes and exquisite detailing. Individually numbered, every frame is a rare object: limited, distinct, unforgettable.

ABOUT REFLECTIONS AND TRANSPARENCIES

It’s often the unexpected places that reveal a certain kind of magic. When familiar patterns are broken and objects are lifted out of their usual context, the eye naturally shifts to their essence. For this fashion shoot, Hamburgbased photographer Thomas Schmidt takes us to an extraordinary location: a swimming pool. An unusual setting for eyewear? Perhaps. But that’s exactly what makes it so captivating.

The cool, almost surreal environment of tiled surfaces and soft light reflections creates a backdrop that perfectly complements the refined aesthetic of the selected frames. The rich green tones of the water and surrounding architecture evoke a sense of calm and depth, while the transparent and softly tinted frames interact with light and shadow –weightless, almost floating.

In The Poolside, it’s not just about a fashion statement – it’s about the beauty of subtle details. Our curation follows a clear vision: understated colors, often transparent, paired with a confident design language. For this swim session, we’ve brought along models from BARTON PERREIRA, CAZAL, DANDY’S, ETNIA BARCELONA, GÖTTI, KIO YAMATO, LITHE, NEUBAU, RAEN, and SALT. –allowing them to unfold their full brilliance in a play of reflections and perspectives.

The Optician’s Guidance: Learn From The Best

Stastny Optik Innsbruck

PREMIUM OPTICIAN IN THE HEART OF THE ALPS

Stastny Optik has been a fixture in Innsbruck for over 80 years. The traditional company, now in its fourth generation and run by Andreas and his father, skillfully combines family values with the latest technology. From its innovative store design to its focus on regional brands and its individual customer care, Stastny Optik is always at the cutting edge. In this interview, Andreas reveals the secrets of the company’s success, how they interpret trends and why online communication and children’s optics play a special role for them.

Stastny Optik Innsbruck

Hello Andreas, Stastny Optik is an authority in Innsbruck. How long have you been around?

We have been here in Innsbruck since 1941. From the very beginning, our focus has been on quality, innovation and personal contact with our customers. Today, we are proud to be known as a true traditional company in Innsbruck, while also offering the latest technology and expertise.

How did you get into optics?

My great-grandfather, Adolf I, founded Stastny Optik in 1941. My grandfather, Adolf II, took over the business from him, but unfortunately passed away very early. As a result, my father, Adolf III, took over the company in 1985 at the age of just 21 – he was already an optician at the time. Today, I am the fourth generation to run the business together with my father and I am happy to continue our family tradition.

How are responsibilities divided between the two of you?

Stastny Optik has developed a lot over the years – from a small one- to two-man operation in 1985 to a company with 18 team members in 2022, including our hearing aid division, Stastny Akustik. This development has brought with it a variety of priorities and challenges, which we are currently successfully mastering as a well-rehearsed team.

Innsbruck is also a tourist center. To what extent does this affect your customer base?

Innsbruck is a center of the Alps and a magnet for tourists. However, since our shop has always been located in the Pradl district – away from the tourist center – we have fewer typical tourist walk-in customers. Our customers come mainly from the surrounding area and from the towns around Innsbruck. They appreciate not only our service and quality, but also the easy accessibility

with plenty of parking.

How would you describe the philosophy of Stastny Optik?

Our philosophy has always revolved around the quality of life of our customers. As a family business, we live by values such as closeness, trust and warmth, which not only our team but also our customers feel. We want to create an oasis of well-being – a place where people feel welcome and experience first-class service. Quality and expertise are at the heart of what we do. Our aim is to offer our customers the best possible advice and the right solutions to sustainably improve their quality of life.

You have a great store. When did you redecorate it?

In May 2023, we opened our new branch just a few meters from the old location. It was a big step that we are very proud of. After a long planning period and intensive collaboration with Möbel und Raum, we were able to create a store that perfectly reflects our philosophy. We are very happy with the result and are pleased that this step has been so well received.

What does the brand portfolio look like?

Our portfolio has changed a lot over the years. Today, we place particular emphasis on independent labels and prefer partners who value transparency, quality and an authentic collaboration. Wherever possible, we also rely on regional suppliers to support not only our customers but also the local economy.

What is going particularly well at Stastny Optik?

Currently, products like those from ROLF, especially the “bean glasses” from Tyrol, are very popular. But eye-catching, colorful and striking pieces are also well received. Our customers can find glasses from manufacturers that are not available in every optician’s shop – our customers particularly appreciate this. I don’t think there are any “Alpine-specific” topics, but our customers

The premium optician as a generational project –Andreas and Adi Stastny.

attach great importance to individuality and quality.

What distinguishes your business, besides the attractive shop and the high-quality brand portfolio? What are your other strengths?

Our strengths lie primarily in quality and service. We have two workshops – one in the children’s store and one in the main store – where we grind every pair of glasses ourselves. In addition, we can carry out 90 percent of repairs on the premises, without having to send the glasses in. Our solution-oriented and customerfocused approach is another feature that our customers particularly appreciate. Another important factor is the stability of our team and our company. Although we have grown from around 8 to 17 employees in the last 1.5 years, our team still consists largely of long-standing employees, some of whom have been with us for over 25 years.

Your website is also very modern and successful. Congratulations! When did you launch it?

Our website was completely revised and updated last year.

Even before that, we placed a great deal of importance on an appealing online presence, because today the website is a company’s digital business card. But we don’t stop there – the site is continuously being developed and improved to ensure that we are always offering our customers the best possible service. It was particularly important to us to present our most important services in a clear and concise way, to showcase our team and our services in the right light and, above all, to offer digital services such as the option of making appointments online.

The “Kids” segment is particularly important to you. Why? More than 30 years ago, we set up our own spacious children’s department to meet the needs of our younger customers. This

focus on children is a unique selling point that sets us apart from many others. We know how important it is to offer children a childfriendly, welcoming and stress-free environment in which they feel comfortable – whether they are choosing glasses or hearing aids. Parents are particularly impressed that we address the special needs and wishes of their children.

We also see that you have an online shop on your website. This is a topic that very few opticians want to touch. Why do you do it anyway?

We decided to have an online shop because we think it’s important to offer our customers a convenient and flexible shopping experience in the digital world as well. Especially in times when many people are shopping online, we want to make sure that our customers can access our range from home.

What do you think will be important for opticians in the coming years in order to survive in the market?

Your top 3 topics, please.

Digital transformation: The online market is growing and opticians also have to offer digital solutions. This includes not only a wellfunctioning online store, but also digital services such as virtual eyewear try-ons or digital advice and tools.

Personalized customer service: Customers want to be advised individually. The ability to respond to the personal needs of each customer and offer customized solutions is becoming increasingly important.

Sustainability: The demand for environmentally friendly products and sustainable business models is increasing. Opticians who rely on sustainable materials and environmentally friendly manufacturing processes will have a competitive advantage in the long term. Andreas, thank you for the interview.

Dark Red

STATEMENT PIECES FROM MARKUS T

Elegance in its deepest shade: Dark Red is the latest addition to the exclusive color palette from MARKUS T – a hue that radiates striking intensity. This expressive red tone gives the frames, captured here by photographer Ulrich Hartmann, a distinctive and commanding presence.

With masterful precision, this signature Dark Red is applied to premium titanium across the MARKUS T collections DOT, EASE Pro, and TITAN, as well as to the innovative lightweight material TMi used in the MIO line. The result is a unique brilliance of color –rich, refined, and technically sophisticated.

MARKUS T

»EASE Pro A2022«

CRAFTSMANSHIP MEETS INNOVATION

Creating the perfect tone requires a precise interplay of technology and handcraft. For the TMi material, a gentle rotational dyeing process is used – allowing pigments to deeply infuse the material and produce exceptional color intensity. Every detail matters: from the exact pigment blend to the fine-tuned tonal calibration, ensuring a homogeneous, even finish.

Even the coloring process of the titanium material is thoroughly refined by the brand from East Westphalia. The Dark Red models achieve their captivating hue through a specially developed and patented electrolytic anodizing process. This finely tuned oxidation technique alters the titanium’s surface –creating not only extraordinary depth of color, but also the collection’s signature velvety shimmer.

MORE THAN JUST A COLOR

Dark Red isn’t just a color – it’s a statement. A shade that conveys confidence and sophistication without being loud. Thanks to the brand’s unique finishing process, the color’s intensity remains vivid over time, giving each frame a bold yet timeless character.

Once again, MARKUS T proves that technological innovation and refined design are not opposites, but perfect complements. With Dark Red, the minimalist design language is extended in a bold new direction – a striking accent and a feat of craftsmanship, all in one. And not just in Dark Red

SALT.

For its latest collection You’ve Been Here, SALT. returns with a vision shaped by timelessness, modern precision – and the sunsoaked soul of California. Shot by longtime SPECTR contributor Ulrich Hartmann in the heart of Berlin, this exclusive fashion editorial introduces four standout silhouettes that define the brand’s new direction. Crafted in Japan with obsessive attention to detail and featherlight precision, these sunglasses are more than accessories. They’re statements of character.

Each frame in the lineup channels a different facet of SALT.’s design ethos: heritage silhouettes, elevated materials, and an intuitive sense of proportion that wears as effortlessly as it looks.

With every frame made in Japan and engineered to near-weightlessness, SALT continues to raise the bar in luxury sunwear. This is fashion with a function. Craft without compromise. And eyewear for those who know that true style lives in the details. You’ve been here. But never quite like this.

»Turner« is classic, redefined. Drawing on one of the most enduring shapes in eyewear history, it captures nostalgia with a modern edge. Its perfectly balanced proportions and ultralight build elevate the familiar into the exceptional. »Turner« is a love letter to timeless design, rewritten for today.

POLARITY IN STYLE. SUNGLASSES IN FOCUS.

Style knows no uniformity – it thrives on the art of contrast. In our editorial Look Twice First, apparent opposites collide: edgy meets elegant, chic flirts with a hint of kinky. An aesthetic that boldly defies expectations – and surpasses them with style.

For this visual statement, we’ve curated a selection of sunglasses that align not only with the look but with an attitude: ANNE ET VALENTIN, BARTON PERREIRA, BLACKFIN, CLEMENCE & MARGAUX, EKKIU, GÖTTI, NIRVAN JAVAN, SILHOUETTE, and YOU MAWO. Each brand stands for a distinct design philosophy; each frame tells its own story – together they invite bold styling and unapologetically confident outfits.

Tina and Anastasiia – our two models –could hardly be more different at first glance, yet their shared presence in front of the camera is electric. Their faces amplify the strong character lines of the frames, their aura elevates the styling to the next level. A play of contrasts – harmonious, thrilling, inspiring.

RAEN – TIMELESS SHAPES AND BOLD ENERGY

Framing the Now

With its Spring/Summer 2025 Collection, RAEN opens a confident new chapter –rooted in the brand’s coastal Californian DNA, yet driven by a sharper, more progressive design perspective. Captured by photographer Sophie Daum on location in Berlin, this SPECTR editorial introduces a refined selection of sunglasses that reflect RAEN’s evolving aesthetic: bold, intentional, and unmistakably individual.

The collection navigates a delicate line between nostalgia and now, structure and softness, minimalism and statement. Each frame is handcrafted with precise attention to detail: layered acetate contours, clean-cut metal accents, and lightweight constructions that sit effortlessly on the face. Designed for movement and presence, these sunglasses are more than visual – built for life in motion, with a natural ease that blends into the everyday.

Designs like »Rhyme« and »Kwela« capture the duality at the heart of RAEN’s latest offering. Their silhouettes feel fresh yet familiar – striking a balance between edge and wearability, youth and refinement. Whether squared or softly rounded, the focus remains on proportion, flow, and form. The result is eyewear that doesn’t demand attention – but naturally holds it.

What sets RAEN apart is its unwavering commitment to craft and culture. Founded in 2009 in Oceanside, California, by brothers Justin and Jeremy Heit together with Jordan Percy, RAEN was born out of a shared passion for design, surfing, and eyewear with soul. The brand set out to create an alternative to performance-heavy sport frames – offering a more thoughtful approach that blends laidback California cool with lasting quality. The result is a collection of Modern Classics: eyewear inspired by timeless forms but designed for today.

There’s a quiet confidence running through the entire Spring/Summer 2025 line. A sense of clarity. These are frames that don’t follow trends but express a mood – sun-washed, urban, intentional. Whether worn along the California coast or down a European side street, RAEN’s designs channel a universal cool that feels global, grounded, and genuinely personal –sunglasses for individuals who don’t chase style – they define it.

When Simplicity Leads the Way

Minimalism is not a trend – it is an attitude. LARS glasses from Bern embody this attitude with a clarity that seems almost radical: one front. Two temples. Four pins. That’s it. In an industry that often wants to be loud, LARS relies on silence. On a design language that speaks without shouting. And on technology that lasts instead of imposing itself.

Modell /bont

Simon and Silvia, the two founders of LARS Brillen, in their studio in Bern.

Inspired by the iconic design principles of Dieter Rams, LARS makes no compromises. The models are reduced to the essentials – while remaining fully functional. Every design is well thought out, every detail has a purpose. The matt surfaces, balanced feel and noticeably low weight combine to create a product that impresses with its simplicity. It’s not about less – it’s about doing things right.

Designed in Bern, produced in Appenzell using 3D printing: LARS is Swiss-made with a contemporary twist. The patented click hinge replaces screws with a clever plug-in system. It clicks. It holds. It fits. This design not only enables maximum comfort, but also easy disassembly into individual parts – a crucial step towards circular value creation. When you wear LARS, you take responsibility – stylishly, effortlessly, sustainably.

LARS is all about the feeling of wearing them. No more uncomfortable nose pads, no more constant readjustment. The ergonomically optimized frames hug your face like a favorite item you never want to take off again. Whether in the office, on the go, or in your everyday life – these glasses stay where they belong. Their lightness is no coincidence, but the result of years of research, countless anatomical analyses and genuine craftsmanship in digital perfection.

LARS thinks ahead. Broken or disused glasses are taken back, shredded and processed into new material together with industry partners. Print. Wear. Bring back. Repeat. This approach earned the label the prestigious opti Newcomer Award 2023 – an endorsement of a holistic concept that unites design, function and sustainability instead of separating them. In a market full of arbitrariness, LARS stands for something rare: a clear vision.

KOBERG
»KT 6067.1025«

Those who wear a KOBERG frame understand the subtle balance between technical perfection and understatement. For years, this Münster-based brand has stood for eyewear that impresses not only through aesthetics, but above all through quality and technical finesse. Specializing in titanium, KOBERG masterfully unites lightness, strength, and all-day comfort. These frames are made for individuals who don’t need loud statements to make an impression. They rely on subtle nuance, precise craftsmanship, and timeless design — and on Made in Germany. KOBERG »KT 6051.1034«

Timeless Precision

The new 2025 collection refines this philosophy even further: with subtle yet striking design updates that add precision and character to each frame. One standout feature is the colored accent at the transition from rim to temple – a signature KOBERG detail now reinterpreted with bolder contrast, without ever appearing loud.

The fronts are crafted from premium 1.9 mm block titanium, with slightly beveled edges that enhance tactile comfort. Another signature: the System4 silicone pad, ensuring exceptional wearability. Slim acetate temple tips, custom-developed for KOBERG, complete the minimalist look.

BLACKFIN SPRING/SUMMER COLLECTION 2025

Minimal Chic

The new BLACKFIN Spring/Summer 2025 collection meets minimalist chic. Photographer Andrea Tota showcases the new BLACKFIN models against a minimalist backdrop – an aesthetic liaison between monochrome minimalism and technical sophistication. A tribute to the beauty of clarity, to a design that needs no explanation.

BLACKFIN stands for titanium glasses with character. For lasting lightness. For bold design that never pushes itself to the fore, but reveals itself confidently in the details. In focus: highlights from four lines by the Italian premium brand.

The glasses in the BLACKFIN One line feature expressive color gradients and geometric silhouettes – as seen in the »Antigua« model, for example – one impressive example of BLACKFIN's craftsmanship and design expertise. Each model in the One collection is a statement in itself, with an aura of subtle eccen-tricity.

The frames in the BLACKFIN Pacific line are ultra-modern. Slim profiles made of 3 mm titanium blend with a touch of Scandinavian restraint, as exemplified by the »Palisades« monobridge – a designdriven exhibit that is incredibly lightweight.

Those who prefer a more powerful look will find what they are looking for in the BLACKFIN Atlantic line: the »Knightsbridge«, for example, showcases titanium in a sculptural form that is confident without being loud.

When it comes to sunglasses, BLACKFIN offers clear design, balanced proportions and elegant color schemes with its One Sun line. The women’s model »Luna« captivates with a sophisticated cateye design with a floating lens look and stylish colour contrasts. The »Thunder Bay« model reinterprets the classic aviator shape – with masculine lines but a unisex character. Its double-layered titanium frame gives the model a minimalist yet striking aesthetic.

Clarity as luxury, reduction as attitude. BLACKFIN Spring/Summer 2025 – a collection for urban aesthetes and quiet visionaries. The fact that each of the frames shown is manufactured in their own Black Shelter Sustainable Factory in the Dolomites is an integral part of the BLACKFIN DNA: sustainability, innovation, design – at the highest level. blackfin.eu

PROMETHEUS. BLACKFIN’S LIMITED MASTERPIECE.

A statement in light, material and myth – »Prometheus« by BLACKFIN is a true tour de force from the Italian premium label: technical, aesthetic, and symbolic in equal measure. This worldwide limited edition of just 500 pieces – 250 per colorway – is not only a tribute to artisanal mastery but also a bold declaration in titanium.

Named after the mythical Titan who brought fire to humanity, »Prometheus« embodies progress, innovation, and fearless exploration – values deeply embedded in BLACKFIN’s DNA. Milled from a single block of titanium with micrometer precision, the frame features aluminum rings that create striking depth and a commanding, sculptural presence. Every surface is hand-polished to a mirror finish – turning vision into a tactile experience.

Visually, »Prometheus« stuns with its high-contrast palette: Obsidian Black Gold paired with matte black – a finish achieved through BLACKFIN’s proprietary NanoPlating™ process. Transparent acetate temple tips – a BLACKFIN innovation – subtly reveal the intricate titanium core within. Finely etched gold engravings and a unique serial number accentuate the collector's appeal of each piece.

Offered with Emerald Haze or Sapphire Haze lenses, this design fuses futuristic elegance with understated sensuality – a true statement piece with presence and soul.

»Prometheus« isn’t just eyewear, it’s a vision of technical excellence, Italian artistry, and design that dares to go further. With its strict limitation, it becomes an object of desire for those who see beyond the expected.

MARC O’POLO MICROTEC HINGE SCANDINAVIAN DESIGN. HIGH-TECH PRECISION.

MARC O’POLO stands for timeless aesthetics, natural materials, and a design ethos that blends Scandinavian clarity with contemporary spirit. The new Spring/Summer 2025 eyewear collection stays true to this vision: sculptural silhouettes, cool tones, and a minimalist design language define the look. But it’s not just the design that sets this collection apart – a new technology also raises the bar.

MicroTec – the maintenance-free hinge Innovation meets functionality: with the patented MicroTec hinge, MARC O’POLO Eyewear introduces a groundbreaking development to the eyewear market. The hinge solves an issue familiar to glasses wearers for decades: loose temples, worn-out hinges, and constant screw adjustments. Those days are over.

Developed in Germany, the MicroTec hinge is the result of three years of intensive research. More than 100 prototypes were created to engineer a construction that combines maximum durability with minimal maintenance. The solution: two high-tech gliding discs made from a specially developed material ensure smooth, consistent temple movement – for the entire life of the frame. The highlight? The precision mechanics are engineered so finely that the temples remain perfectly aligned for years, with no need for tightening or adjustment. Despite its technical innovation, the hinge remains intuitive to handle: it installs much like classic titanium hinges, allowing temples and fronts to be replaced easily if needed.

Design and function in perfect balance

The use of premium materials such as Eastman Acetate Renew and fine metal underscores the commitment to enduring elegance. Especially in the monoblock metal models – featuring butterfly and cat-eye shapes – the clean lines shine. The MicroTec hinge integrates seamlessly, delivering subtle yet noticeable comfort.

The result: a collection that impresses not only in its design, but also in its technical innovation. MARC O’POLO Eyewear remains true to its DNA – modern, functional, and timelessly stylish.

OPTICAL SPECTACLES FROM MOTHER EARTH

A place that smells of coffee brewed on a camping stove, folding chairs, and the charm of long-term campers – right in the middle of it all: a look you’d sooner expect in Berlin’s Mitte or Friedrichshain. For this fashion shoot, Tanja Tremel and her team leave the urban canyons behind and dive into the slowerpaced world of a campground just outside Berlin. The setting? Precisely staked-out lawn plots, faded awnings, and a nostalgic touch of caravan life. The contrasts? Impossible to miss.

Among garden gnomes and sunshades, our models present modern, urban outfits –paired with premium optical eyewear in warm earth tones. It’s a meeting of two worlds: on one side, the charmingly modest camping idyll where time seems to have stood still. On the other, frames that embody modern design, individuality, and exceptional craftsmanship – and gain even more visual impact in this down-to-earth setting.

The earthy tones of the frames form a bridge between urban attitude and the natural camp vibe. From soft moss green and warm chestnut brown to deep espresso black – the selected models impress with their well-thought-out interplay of color and form. For the casting, we curated a handpicked lineup – featuring eyewear from CLÉMENCE & MARGAUX, ETNIA BARCELONA, HOFFMANN NATURAL EYEWEAR, LUNOR, LITHE, RAEN, REIZ, SALT., TALLA, and YOU MAWO

Made from biodegradable natural acetate – stylish design meets consistently sustainable material selection.

A PROGRESSIVE EVOLUTION

NEUBAU PRESENTS THEIR FIRST FULL ACETATE COLLECTION.

The modern world demands forward-thinking – in how we live, consume, produce, and interact with one another. Today and in the future. The question is: how can we do it better? NEUBAU puts this progressive thinking front and center – from lifestyle choices and eyewear design to production in Austria, the brand’s homeland. This Austrian quality label relies on primarily sustainable materials, combining traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge high-tech manufacturing.

With the launch of the Natural Acetate Collection, NEUBAU continues its mission with focus and consistency. For the first time, the brand presents eight high-quality optical models made entirely of full acetate – crafted from plant-based, biodegradable natural acetate. The frames are made of 68% cotton and wood, and 32% natural plasticizers. Unlike conventional acetate, this sustainable material blend contains no harmful substances and uses only plant-based softeners.

SUMMER SPECIAL 2025

STRONG DESIGNS FOR A SHARP SUMMER

Where is eyewear heading in Summer 2025? Representing the many outstanding brands in the independent segment, we’ve selected nine labels – nine design languages sharing one stage: welcome to the Summer Special 2025.

For this feature, we’ve curated exciting new releases alongside tried-and-true classics – whether bold or delicate, technical or organic, vibrant or monochrome – the selection shows just how diverse eyewear in 2025 can be. What all selected brands have in common: rather than chasing short-lived trends, they rely on quality, innovation, and a clear design ethos. At the same time, each brings its own distinct perspective on contemporary eyewear design.

Horn specialist HOFFMANN NATURAL EYEWEAR impresses with an unforgettable tactile experience. Similarly understated, LUNOR demonstrates with a single model how harmonious colorways can radiate subtle impact. KIO YAMATO stands for technical perfection and minimalism, merging precision with Japanese understatement. YOU MAWO, in contrast, shows just how progressive and stylish 3D-printed eyewear can be.

Spanish label ETNIA BARCELONA combines expressive silhouettes with high-quality materials and bold colorways. KADOR blends Italian craftsmanship with contemporary sophistication – from subtle to expressive. Also from Italy, LOOK brings authentic design and a fine sense for form, material, and finish.

Southern German brand LITHE translates technical purism into ultra-lightweight titanium frames with bold aesthetics. KOBERG & TENTE, on the other hand, fuses northern German clarity with block-milled titanium – marked by precise detailing and refined color accents.

All brands were captured by still life photographers Nocera & Ferri from London. Their clean, reduced compositions give each frame the space it needs to make an impact – honest, pure, and precise. Each still is paired with a portrait shot, because only on the face do the models transform into fashion statements, functional design objects – and full expressions of personality.

HAUTE COUTURE MEETS SUSTAINABILITY

The future of luxury is responsible – welcome to SILHOUETTE Atelier Next. In this new concept from the Austrian designer label, minimalism meets opulence – a seeming contradiction that SILHOUETTE masterfully resolves. Atelier Next redefines ethical luxury through a captivating symbiosis of aesthetics, sustainability, and craftsmanship. Each design tells its own story – one of innovation, resource-consciousness, and uncompromising elegance. It’s a vision for a future where luxury no longer comes at the cost of the environment. For SILHOUETTE, sustainable materials are a game changer in the creation of luxury eyewear.

Recycled Gold

SILHOUETTE Gold, a 23-karat alloy, stands out with its refined hue. Made from recycled gold and enhanced with a touch of ruthenium, it creates a look that fuses timeless class with modern consciousness.

Leather that isn’t leather

The tactile warmth of leather – without any animal components. The Austrian brand opts for a plant-based alternative made from 100% corn. The result: a luxurious, CO₂-neutral material that matches classic leather in both look and feel.

Sustainably sparkling diamonds

Why mine when you can grow? The diamonds in this collection are lab-created, not extracted from the earth – flawlessly pure and CO₂-neutral. Set by hand into the temples, they merge high-tech precision with haute joaillerie.

3D printing meets titanium

While conventional milling techniques generate waste, SILHOUETTE uses a revolutionary 3D printing process. Layer by layer, a frame is created from titanium dust, melted with lasers – no excess, just maximum strength and minimal weight.

Three visionary sub-collections

The Atelier Next collection brings together three visionary sub-lines that push technological boundaries while maintaining the perfect symbiosis of ethical luxury and timeless design. Aura, Radiance, and Lumiere reflect the core idea of Atelier Next, uniting sustainable materials with refined luxury eyewear. The strictly limited sunglasses edition »Splendeur Exclusive Solaire« is part of the Radiance line and offered in a run of only 250 pieces – epic glamour included.

With Atelier Next, SILHOUETTE proves that luxury lies not only in design, but in conviction. Anyone who wears these frames chooses a future where aesthetics, innovation, and responsibility blend seamlessly into one. silhouette.com

RODENSTOCK A NEW ERA OF LIGHTNESS

RODENSTOCK is one of the classic eyewear brands – Engineered in Germany. As part of an international repositioning, the quality label is entering a “new era of lightness.” The focus is on premium materials, innovative features, and timeless aesthetics. We spoke with Head of Design and Engineering Benjamin Heirich about the brand’s design philosophy and the technical and stylistic implications of its new products.

Hello Benjamin, RODENSTOCK is undergoing a repositioning. What’s behind it?

As part of our repositioning, we’ve redefined the RODENSTOCK brand – with a clear design language, a structured collection framework, and a long-term strategy. The guiding principle “Form Follows Lightness” is at the core of our design process – our entire development is driven by the goal of creating ultra-light eyewear. We combine maximum lightness with minimalist aesthetics and technical innovation.

Innovation and data-driven technology are important to you. Is that typical of a German premium brand?

Absolutely – German premium brands are globally recognized for precision and quality, and it’s this “German engineering” that forms the foundation of our product mindset. Our work is shaped by efficiency, perfection, and engineering excellence, which is reflected in every detail of our frames. Thanks to a comprehensive database, we can analyze technical parameters and ensure optimal fitting and maximum wearing comfort with our designs.

You refer to a new “era of lightness“. What does that mean in practice?

It means developing eyewear that is featherlight – because less weight equals more comfort. That’s where our focus lies: on lightness, both physically and aesthetically. Thanks to technological innovation and new materials, we create ultra-lightweight designs that strike the perfect balance between material choice, construction, and design. Our core promise is maximum comfort –because for wearers, the most important thing is a frame that feels like it’s not even there.

How does the idea of “lightness” influence your frame designs?

Lightness shapes every aspect of our design approach. We rely on purist forms with clean lines and reduced shapes to create timeless aesthetics. At the same time, we optimize material usage without compromising stability. By using ultra-light materials like titanium and RXP®, we significantly reduce weight. Transparent and semi-transparent colors further enhance the sense of lightness – both visually and in feel. Innovations like our screwless hinges and exposed flex zones ensure added comfort. Our minimalist frames blend seamlessly with the face and highlight the wearer’s personality.

And how do you address aesthetic considerations in your designs?

Our design guideline “Pure Aesthetics” is inspired by Bauhaus and minimalism – defined by a timeless, pared-down visual language. Our frames combine functionality with lightness and are characterized by modern, long-lasting design.

Materials play a major role in overall weight. What are your go-to choices?

We often combine materials to achieve the perfect balance between stability and comfort. In our in-house prototyping workshop, we continuously test and refine material use to further reduce weight and ensure the lightest possible result.

Which materials are central to this approach?

Primarily titanium and RXP®. For our nose pads, we use only medical-grade silicone, which is skin-friendly and available in various forms to ensure optimal comfort.

Which types of titanium are used for which parts of the frames?

We use specific titanium alloys strategically to achieve the ideal balance of stability, flexibility, and precision for each component: • Pure titanium is used for fronts, bridges, and endpieces due to its strength and durability.

• Beta titanium is used for temples and rimless frames because of its high flexibility and adaptability to the wearer.

• Nanometer titanium is used in the flex zone spring elements, where precision and functionality are critical.

What makes RXP® unique and how is it used?

RXP® is a high-tech polymer produced in Switzerland with outstanding properties. It’s extremely lightweight yet highly durable, making it ideal for manufacturing slim frames. It’s also skin-friendly and easily adjustable, which makes it especially comfortable for everyday use.

You provided us with frames from the Loop, Orbit, and InfiniTec collections for our shoot. What makes each series unique?

Each of our collections has its own defining design elements and technical innovations, yet all RODENSTOCK frames are comfortable to wear and individually adjustable. Here’s what sets them apart:

• Loop: This collection combines cutting-edge technology with a standout design element – a precision-engineered hinge. The temples, made from pure titanium, deliver strength, lightness, and durability. Loop appeals particularly to a younger audience that appreciates modern design language.

• Orbit: The highlight here is the innovative, screwless construction that eliminates the need for hinge adjustments. Inspired by Bauhaus philosophy and the geometry of the circle, Orbit also features ultra-light materials like RXP® and titanium. The rimless design from this series received the German Design Award 2025

• InfiniTec: This series centers on the idea of making technology visible. The exposed flex hinge serves as both a functional and stylistic element. The spring component is made from nanometer titanium, guaranteeing the highest precision.

Who is the RODENSTOCK target audience?

With our repositioning, we’re targeting men aged 35 and above who value longevity, quality, and precise technology in their products – and place a premium on comfort. Their style is defined by a preference for timeless, purist design.

Thank you.

Since September 2024, Fabrice Albert has been leading one of the most iconic names in French eyewear design: J.F. REY. With over 25 years of experience across international brands and distribution networks, he brings a new energy to this bold and creative French company. We spoke with J.F. REY’s General Director about the brand’s DNA, his vision for the future – and what’s in store for its 40th anniversary.

Rey into the Future

A refined play of color and metal – J.F. REY’s Allure of Metal collection. The hand-applied duotone and tritone compositions meet sculpted shapes to create a contemporary, expressive elegance.

Engineered for performance and style, J.F. REY’s Carbon Inside collection harnesses the ultra-light, ultra-strong power of carbon fiber.

Hello Fabrice, when did you join J.F. REY and what did you do before?

Bonjour! I joined J.F. REY in September 2024, bringing with me over 25 years of experience in the optical industry. I’ve held leadership roles across both brands and distribution networks – from Lynx Optique to Inface, Design Eyewear Group, Silhouette Eyewear, and PPG. J.F. REY has always been a brand that inspired me. Joining this independent and visionary house is both a personal and professional thrill – a bold challenge I’m proud to embrace.

J.F. REY is one of the biggest brands in French eyewear design. What does the brand mean to you?

To me, J.F. REY is iconic – a creative force in eyewear, globally recognized for its boldness and excellence in craftsmanship. What makes it truly unique is its restless energy. For 40 years, the brand has constantly reinvented itself while remaining true to its identity. It’s this perfect balance of artistic freedom and technical mastery that defines J.F. REY – always forging its own path, never following trends, and surprising with every collection. That’s why it remains a reference in creative eyewear.

What are the main characteristics of J.F. REY for you?

What’s the DNA of the brand?

Three words: Boldness, Innovation, and Excellence. Boldness is our mindset. Innovation is our fuel. And Excellence is the foundation on which every frame is built. Our designs reflect this spirit: striking shapes, unique color pairings, and innovative materials come together to form collections that defy the conventional –without ever compromising on quality, fit, or durability.

New minds often bring change. What are your plans for the future of the brand? Will you develop or change the brand’s image and communication?

Our ambition is to strengthen J.F. REY’s position as a premium designer brand and to affirm a distinctive style that goes beyond fleeting trends. This means optimizing internal structures, accelerating international expansion – including recent moves in Asia –and driving transformation through digitalization, product innovation, and supply chain modernization.

We’re also elevating the brand’s presence through stronger communication campaigns, immersive experiences, and compelling storytelling. Collaboration is key: we’re working closely with our partners to deliver even more impactful customer experiences. Our French and international teams are more connected than ever – the energy is high, and everything’s moving in the right direction.

Another look at Carbon Inside – 40% lighter than titanium and twice as rigid as steel – for bold, high-tech eyewear built

With its screwless SLEDGE hinge, J.F. REY blends functional innovation with aesthetic finesse – creating collections tailored for unique needs like small faces or strong prescriptions, all with uncompromising comfort. Model pictured: »JF3086«.

How will J.F. REY continue to develop in terms of product design and collections?

Innovation is in our DNA – at every level, in every department. We explore new materials, experiment with textures, and continuously seek to surprise through shape and design. Our patented technologies, like the SLEDGE screwless hinge, are a perfect example of functional innovation serving aesthetics. We also harness 3D printing to bring to life intricate shapes and new ideas that would be impossible through traditional manufacturing. Our product lines address specific needs – such as small faces and high ametropia – ensuring superior comfort and optical performance. Sustainability is central to our development. We’ve taken measurable steps to reduce our environmental impact: We increasingly use recycled and bio-based materials, our frames are made to last and to be repaired, and we’ve integrated interchangeable parts to extend the life of our products. Plus, we’ve brought production closer to home – taking over the CEMO factory in France to preserve local craftsmanship and support ethical, sustainable manufacturing. Our vision is simple: to create eyewear that is bold, innovative, responsible – and beautiful.

This year J.F. REY celebrates 40 years of innovation. Can you tell us more?

We’ll celebrate this anniversary with exclusive launches and a limited edition.

But the highlight of the year will be a very special night at the upcoming SILMO, where we’ll unveil some bold creations and offer our partners a unique experience.

It will be a moment to honor our creative DNA and to fully express our "Beyond Limits" vision. No spoilers – you’ll have to come and see for yourself!

Do you have a personal favorite model?

It’s like choosing a favorite child – impossible! Every model carries a part of who we are, and I’m deeply connected to all the ones that pushed our teams the furthest, both creatively and technically. That said, I’m particularly fond of CARBON CORE, our latest and one of the best-selling concepts. It’s a powerful symbol of what J.F. REY stands for: lightness, technical innovation, modern aesthetics – and boldness.

Thank you!

THE VUARNET LEGACY

VUARNET – A CLASSIC REINVENTED

For over six decades, VUARNET has stood for adventure, elegance, and the perfect fusion of performance and style. Founded in 1957 by Olympic champion Jean Vuarnet and optician-engineer Roger Pouilloux, the legendary brand revolutionized the world of sports sunglasses – with groundbreaking mineral lenses and iconic designs.

Today, VUARNET continues that legacy, and with the Fall/Winter 2024/2025 collection, it bridges its alpine DNA with a contemporary urban lifestyle. At the heart of the brand are still the high-precision mineral lenses, crafted for decades in VUARNET’s own French workshop. They offer not only flawless UV protection, but are also exceptionally scratch- and impact-resistant. Thanks to Lynx™ technology, they intelligently manage light and reduce glare – a gamechanger not only in high alpine conditions, but in everyday city life as well.

In our fashion shoot, Sacha Tassilo Höchstetter captures the brand’s iconic aesthetic in a fresh, contemporary context: heritage meets modernity, pioneering spirit fuses with effortless cool. The SPECTR shoot pays homage to the 1984 Los Angeles campaign “It’s a VUARNET Day” – a call to embrace life with style and purpose. Then as now, VUARNET is made for high-performance athletes and mountaineers, but equally welcomes everyday wearers with class and confidence into the world of this French premium brand.

DARE TO STAND OUT –OPTICAL FRAMES IN RED & GREEN

Cape Town – City of Contrasts. Urban pulse meets rugged natural panoramas, while iconic light bathes the streets of this African metropolis in a surreal scene. No wonder that the city at the Cape of Good Hope is one of the most sought-after locations for fashion shoots – especially when the northern hemisphere is in the depths of winter.

For our latest shoot, fashion photographer Stefan Kapfer once again used the vibrant backdrop of Cape Town to showcase a selection of expressive eyewear. This time, we have beautiful optical glasses from the brands EINSTOFFEN, J. F. REY, KOBERG, MARKUS T, MOREL and RAEN. We’re not talking about subtle, understated models here – these are frames with real character and plenty of self-confidence. Bold green and vibrant red add striking accents and emphasize the presence of these powerful designs.

Kapfer always manages to capture the essence of the city in unique images. A play of light and shadow, architecture and emotion – a tribute to bold eyewear styles for cosmopolitans who are anything but ordinary.

The World of Kids’ Eyewear

WHERE FUNCTION MEETS DESIGN –AND FAMILY LIFE

Children see the world through different eyes — and when glasses enter the picture, that perspective sharpens in unexpected ways. But for that to happen, kids’ eyewear needs to go above and beyond its “grownup” counterparts. It must fit perfectly from morning to night, survivee very imaginative adventure — and, perhaps most importantly, win over young hearts from the very first glance. Children’s eyewear is a highly specialized category, shaped by ergonomic demands, a thoughtful approach to child development, and a design philosophy that walks the line between function and personality. Brands like GÖTTI, LOOKKINO, and THEO — along with expert opticians like Augenweide in Cologne — offer a closer look at eyewear crafted for smaller faces.

campaign

FIT IS EVERYTHING — AND ANYTHING BUT SIMPLE

When it comes to kids’ glasses, fit is everything. But what sounds simple is actually a delicate balancing act. Children’s heads differ significantly from adults’: “Their nasal bridges are flatter, their ears not yet fully developed – a good fit requires adapted temples, nose pads, and well-balanced weight distribution,” explains Sven Götti. That’s the only way to ensure glasses stay in place through every leap, sprint, and tumble.

LOOKKINO prioritizes maximum ergonomics across all age groups: “Our frames are designed to grow with the child –featuring short, adjustable temple ends and shapes that adapt to each developmental phase,” says Marco de Fina. THEO takes a similar stance, echoing its adult eyewear philosophy: “We approach the design process the same way we do with our adult frames – glasses should feel good and be comfortable to wear.”

MATERIAL MATTERS –WHEN EVERYDAY LIFE MEETS ADVENTURE

A tumble from the jungle gym, a dash across the playground, or an impromptu somersault in the living room – kids’ glasses endure far more than their adult equivalents. Which is why material choice is absolutely crucial.

Optician Michael Franzen of Augenweide Optik notes a clear trend: “3D-printed frames are incredibly durable while remaining flexible – something both parents and kids really appreciate.” THEO embraces this approach wholeheartedly: “In our Slang collection, we combine acetate fronts with stainless steel temples and incorporate our patented ‘patat’ spring hinge – which significantly boosts durability.”

GÖTTI goes even further: “We use PA12, produced through SLS 3D printing. It’s ultralight, highly flexible, and can be customtailored in size and bridge width – perfect for the lively rhythm of a child’s daily life.”

DESIGN: SOMEWHERE BETWEEN PLAYFUL AND COOL

Once upon a time, kids’ glasses had to be colorful and cartoonish. Today, subtlety is welcome. While the youngest wearers may gravitate toward bold logos or characters like Mickey Mouse or Star Wars, older children increasingly want frames that resemble what their parents wear.

“Kids aged nine and up know exactly what they want,” says Michael Franzen. “They prefer clean shapes without childish logos – 3D-printed, minimal, and cool.” LOOKKINO responds to this shift with a broad stylistic range: “From classic to colorful, our designs give children real room for self-expression –not just something to ‘put on.’”

And THEO? Remains unmistakably THEO – even in the kids’ segment: “Our designs are bold, playful, and authentic. We don’t follow trends – we create eyewear that makes kids shine.”

OUR FRAMES BASICALLY GROW WITH THEM – WITH SHORT, ADJUSTABLE TEMPLE TIPS AND SHAPES THAT CAN BE ADAPTED TO THE RESPECTIVE GROWTH PHASE.”
Marco de Fina, LOOKKINO
“THE BRIDGE OF THE NOSE IS FLATTER, THE EARS ARE NOT YET FULLY FORMED – A GOOD FIT REQUIRES ADJUSTED TEMPLES, NOSE PADS AND BALANCED WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION.”
Sven Götti

SUPPORT FOR OPTICIANS

Selling children’s eyewear requires sensitivity – and serious expertise. That’s why many manufacturers are investing in training for their retail partners. LOOKKINO offers detailed product info, fitting tips, and consulting tools with every collection. THEO intentionally designs frames for small faces that go beyond the classic kids’ segment – allowing opticians without a pediatric focus to offer standout models as well.

CONCLUSION: THE FIRST PAIR — AND A CHANCE TO FIND A FAVORITE COMPANION

A child’s first pair of glasses is a major milestone. It needs to fit, last, look great – and, above all, be fun to wear. The best models blend smart engineering with confident design, while giving kids the freedom to participate in the decision. Because when young wearers feel truly seen and heard, a simple visual aid becomes something more: a part of their identity. Or, as THEO puts it: “If you’re getting compliments, you chose the right pair.”

WHO REALLY MAKES THE DECISION?

In practice, the final choice isn’t always up to the child – even though they’re the ones wearing the glasses. “Parents often talk their child into the frame they like – not the one their child actually chose,” notes Augenweide Optik. The result? Frustration and resistance.

But children are, in fact, natural decisionmakers – if treated with respect. “When you take them seriously and speak to them at eye level, they choose quickly and confidently,” says Franzen. Many brands make this process more fun – like GÖTTI, with their “Öttis”, charming illustrated characters featured on cases, microfiber cloths, and stickers. “They help create an emotional bond – for kids and parents alike,” Götti explains.

“CHILDREN FROM THE AGE OF NINE KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THEY WANT. THEY PREFER CLEAR SHAPES WITHOUT A CHILD’S LOGO – 3D PRINTED, SIMPLE, COOL.”

FELI & PEPITA – KINDERPORTRÄTS VOLLER ANMUT UND AUTHENTIZITÄT

photography : THOMAS SCHÄKEL

The Cologne-based artist duo Feli & Pepita have brought their vision to the latest Kids Special editorial shoot – for the third time running. Once again, their unmistakable style shines through in every image. With a remarkable sensiti-vity toward their young protagonists, they create an atmosphere where children and teenagers can express themselves freely. But their approach goes far beyond aesthetics: Feli & Pepita lend their models dignity, naturalness, and an authentic presence in front of the camera. We visit the duo in their creative sanctuary – a uniquely converted industrial loft in Cologne.

Hello Feli & Pepita, thank you for once again contributing to SPECTR.

Feli: We always have a great time bringing our own creative ideas to the editorial shoots. Our latest work in this issue is titled “L’Esprit Sportif” and spotlights the featured kids as little sports icons.

Was there a particularly special or funny moment during the shoot?

Pepita: For this production, we were looking for special talents during casting. During the shoot, the kids showed off their skills and athletic tricks. But what’s just as exciting are the unexpected moments – like when we captured something unplanned, such as Lia showing us her ballet skills or Lukas, the youngest of our models, revealing himself to be a little math whiz. You can control many aspects of a shoot, but the magic of an image often lies in the unexpected. What fascinates you about working with children and teenagers?

Pepita: As artists and photographers, we focus on the stories of the people

we portray. The theme of childhood, youth, and the transition into adulthood is a compelling one, and at the heart of our work is the question: “What does it mean to be young?” In an aging society, young people are our future – and we try to give them a voice. We’re especially fascinated by the lightness of youth, their perspective on the world, and the authentic, self-assured individuals we aim to capture in our portraits and videos. Do you pursue a specific goal with your work?

Pepita: Our goal is to invite viewers to reflect on the universal experience of growing up, to promote understanding, empathy, and appreciation for the diversity of young people around the world – and to be inspired by their strength, courage, and joy for life. Our work with young people has been featured in publications such as Vogue, Glamour, Die Zeit, Harper’s Bazaar, and Marie Claire

How do you divide the creative tasks between you? Do you have fixed roles?

Feli: A photoshoot requires a lot of preparation and planning, which we do together – starting with the concept, which we develop as a team. Then we move on to mood boards, lighting tests, casting, and booking the team, including makeup artists, stylists, set and postproduction designers.

Pepita: A shoot is always a team effort, and we work with some truly amazing people. During the shoot, sometimes we both photograph, sometimes just Feli –it depends on the plan. As Creative Director, I also take care of the set design and styling.

What are the particular challenges of working with children?

Feli: It’s important to us to create a relaxed atmosphere where children and their parents feel comfortable. That includes the layout of our studio as well as child-friendly catering. A playful approach and a fast-paced workflow are equally key.

Where do you find inspiration for your shoots?

The books by Feli & Pepita are available at www.artbooksonline.eu and www.buchhandlung-walther-koenig.de

Pepita: We develop ideas in different ways. Often, they’re already deep inside us. Sometimes we begin with a mental image, a mood, a theme that moves us, a piece of music, or a story we want to tell. We work with scrapbooks and think about which techniques, colors, and materials can best convey our vision.

Feli: We find creative input through travel, books, films, magazines, visits to museums and exhibitions – and of course, through the internet.

You must have had many special moments working with children. Which ones stand out?

Pepita: That would be our project “IN MY ROOM – A Portrait of a Generation” in Lockdown, where we interviewed and photographed young people from around the world during the COVID-19 pandemic. We’re incredibly grateful that so many children and teens shared their feelings, ideas, and opinions with us and opened the doors to their rooms. This project received international attention, was awarded the UNICEF Photo of the Year, and was exhibited in solo shows in Paris, New York, Oslo, Beijing, Rotterdam and Cologne.

Feli: Another moving moment was our 2024 follow-up, “IN MY ROOM – Youth between Hope and Fear”, which we produced with young people from ten countries in Romania. The interviews with youth from Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Romania, and other countries left a deep impression on us. Their incredible energy rubbed off on us – and their hopeful view of the world deserves far more attention. Their insight that peace can only emerge through community, and that freedom must be defended, should be taken seriously.

Your style is striking – and in high demand. What defines the typical Feli & Pepita look?

Feli: Thank you! Through our photography, we aim to tell stories and place the person being portrayed at the center –confident and present. The complexity of our images arises from the interplay of different elements like setting, clothing, hairstyles, light, colors, and the expression and pose of the subject. Our artistic range extends from photography and video to objects and installations, all the way to music and performances. All of these disciplines influence one another.
