South Molton Community Garden news by Rebecca Blackman

We’re nearing the end of the harvest in the garden now. The last of the sweetcorn cobs have been picked and the beans and raspberries are almost finished. Growing among the marigolds, we still have leeks in the ground (right), which will soon be ready for eating. The sweetcorn plants have been pulled up and laid on the soil where they were growing. The plan is to cover this bed, plants and all, and leave it until spring. We tried this as an experiment last year and piled a thick layer of plant matter on top of one of the communal plots. When we took the cover off in the springtime, everything had rotted down. Hopefully we’ll see the same results this time around. We’ll be running a stall in South Molton Pannier Market on Thursday, November 9th so look out for us there! If you’d like to join us, please come along on a Thursday afternoon, around 2pm. Alternatively, please send us an email for more information: southmoltoncommunitygarden@gmail.com
