South Molton Carnival 2024

1933 South Molton Carnival from the album of Emily Alexandra Boucher, daughter of Frederick James Boucher and Emily V Kingdon of South Molton, and maternal grandmother to Alexandra Mary Kingdon

South Molton Carnival returns to the town on October 12th after a six year break, with a traditional parade, entertainment and events.

Last held in 2018, it had to be cancelled due to bad weather in 2019 and then Covid restrictions in 2020. Now a team of volunteers have breathed new life into the carnival and hope to make it an annual fixture on the calendar, as it had been since 1921.

“We cannot wait to see you all there and have a memorable time!” said Kim Maxted from the organising committee. “We’re expecting around a dozen floats plus a marching band and dance groups.”

After the regular market has ended there will be funfair type games and rides for children, including a bouncy castle, trampoline bungee and face painting - plus there will be food and a bar available.

Midday - the Carnival Ambassadors will be appointed in South Molton Pannier Market 12.15pm - raffle draw and winners of the drawing competition announced and presented with their prizes (Pannier Market) 5pm to 9pm - town centre road closures 5pm - parade assembly and judging at the Central Car Park
