Fit, Fab and Totally Rad Campus Events in April!
If the saying is, "In like a lion, out like a lamb," April didn't get the memo. There was a lot happening in April and we're just getting started! We celebrated 80's Day on April 5 with some totally rad fashion choices, and everyone had a great time dressing up and playing homage to the flashy fashions and trends of the era. We all got a bit more fit with Spring into Fitness running throughout the month of April. Thank you to those that joined us in the four-week challenge as we shook off the cobwebs of winter and got revved up for spring. Staff and students were eager to enjoy National Pretzel Day on April 26. Fresh and delicious giant pretzels were served at all campuses with a selection of sauces to dip them in. Mmm... Pretzels! We wrapped up the month with some very successful Community Outreach events. Graduates visited us at our Calgary NE campus for Gradtown - an annual event held in partnership with Trellis Community Society and Marlborough Mall. Graduates were able to purchase previously loved gowns, suits and formal wear for $10 each. All proceeds from the event go to back into the community through the Calgary Boys and Girls Club. It was heartwarming to see everyone walk out with an outfit to wear to their celebrations that best represented their hard work and accomplishments! That same weekend our CORE team was at the Calgary Baby and Tot Show, offering free seated massages to the attendees. This was an incredible opportunity for students to get hands-on practical experience in a fun environment, while earning practical hours and marketing themselves to hundreds of potential clients!

Introducing Basic Computer Skills We held our very first Intro to Tech: Computer Basics workshop on April 28. It was great to be able to help students learn how to use a computer, navigate through the internet and do things like copy and paste and fill out forms online. This free workshop is open to students and members of the public. If you know someone who may benefit from this, contact SAS to find out when the next workshop is happening.
Meet Sabrina
Say hello to Sabrina! She first came to MaKami as a student, and joined our team as a tutor in the SSC in Edmonton in February. Sabrina enjoys her time at MaKami College as she takes great joy in being able to help future RMTs succeed in their learning journey. Sabrina has lived in Edmonton for over 20 years and over that time has had a multitude of careers but hadn't found her passion until now. When she's not at MaKami you can find her working at Massage Experts as a therapist. Outside of work, Sabrina loves being home with her husband and three sons.
Study Tips: Give Yourself Time to Study Don't leave studying to the last minute. While some students appear to thrive on last-minute cramming, it's been proven time and again that (for most people) this is not the best way to approach an exam.

Don't leave studying to the last minute. Set up a timetable for your studying. Organize your schedule according to how much time you need to dedicate to each quiz or exam.
To help with time management, it's a good idea to set up a timetable for your studying. Write down how many exams you have and when they are. Then organize your study schedule according to how much time you need to dedicate to each exam or quiz. It is recommended to spread your studying out for 3-4 days before your exam. It is best to do this as soon as you learn about an upcoming exam so you are not caught by surprise and you will always be prepared.

Meet Rana, the new Disability Learning Strategist at SALT in Calgary.
Rana works with students to help them achieve their best by providing support through learning plans. Originally from Windsor, Ontario, we are glad she moved to Calgary. Outside of work, you can find Rana and her two Siamese cats watching her favourite show, The Office. Rana also likes to hike and can’t wait for summer to get here. TJ - Determined to Succeed
TJ started his journey at MaKami College shortly after he went to the Ski and Snowboard Show in Edmonton. “I saw students from MaKami College offering free massages to the public and was curious to learn more,” says TJ, who immediately signed up for a campus tour. At the time, TJ was working as a retail manager and was not sure if he was interested in changing his career or if massage therapy would be his ‘thing’. With an interest in sports and maintaining an active lifestyle, TJ soon realized he could pursue that route with massage therapy as well. Six college tours later, TJ finally made up his mind and decided to enroll in MaKami’s 3000 -hour Advanced Clinical Massage Therapy program. It ended up being the best professional decision of his life!
