Back in February 2018, Cheanice and Jacob’s modern love story began with a match on Bumble. Ah, technology - bringing hearts together one swipe at a time! After a few weeks of texting, they finally met for coffee at Starbucks. Little did they know, it wasn’t just any Starbucks, but the one right down the street from where they both grew up. Over lattes and laughs, they discovered they lived only minutes apart, went to the same high school, and even knew some of the same people. Talk about a small world!

One coffee date led to another, and soon enough, they were off on numerous adventures together. From dancing at music festivals in the desert to zip-lining through forest canopies in Mexico, their love story was unfolding with every new experience.

Fast forward to today, Cheanice and Jacob’s love has blossomed into a magical forever kind of love story. Surrounded by 60 of their closest friends and family, they celebrated their big day filled with endless love and laughter. Their wedding day took place at the stunning Cork & Crates Estates where they shared their vows and held their reception.

The sense of smell is the most primal and enigmatic of all human senses – often unnoticed but incredibly powerful. From the unconscious influence on our moods and daily actions to the sudden nostalgia triggered by a familiar scent, we aim to harness this power purposefully.

ol.facto creates snapshots of life’s important moments through an olfactory diary, offering scented keepsakes and perfumes that capture your most cherished memories.

ol.facto is the passion project of Ana Stepanchuk, a neuroscientist and perfume experience curator. Having personally experienced the powerful connection between scents, emotions, and memories, Ana set out to promote a more intentional use of scents in daily life, beyond aromatherapy or purely aesthetic fragrances.

With a deep understanding of brain function, a love for teaching, and an obsession with scents, Ana launched ol.facto, focusing primarily on perfume-making workshops. These workshops have become popular group experiences, helping participants rediscover their sense of smell and express their identities through unique fragrances.

Blending scents to discover your signature fragrance is a deeply personal and reflective journey, allowing couples to learn more about each other. Bespoke fragrances for special events are an emerging trend, and they’re thrilled to bring this unique experience to life!

When Cleve & Bekka’s intimate garden ceremony was greeted by a gentle rainfall, instead of seeking shelter indoors, they chose to embrace the elements, as it really added an extra layer of magic and romance to the atmosphere. It’s moments like these that remind us of the unpredictable beauty of nature and how it can elevate the most ordinary of occasions into something truly extraordinary.

While some may see rain as an inconvenience, we couldn’t help but marvel at how it lent an enchanting charm to the proceedings. Bekka’s passion for botanicals, evident in her thriving Instagram account where she shares her love and tips for plants, was seamlessly woven into the fabric of their wedding day. From the verdant gardens to the sumptuous table settings, every detail exuded an organic elegance that perfectly reflected their unique style and personalities.

One of the highlights of the evening was the intimate gathering in the historic library room at Victoria’s Empress Hotel, where friends and family came together to celebrate amidst the opulent surroundings. Once upon a time in the digital realm of 2018, Sara and Amir swiped right on Tinder would set the stage for a love story beyond their wildest dreams. Long-distance became their companion in their first year when Amir pursued studies in the US. Taking the plunge, they decided to move in together, solidifying their commitment and weaving their lives even closer. And then came the momentous proposal, etching a new chapter in their shared journey. Amir chose a crisp fall day in 2021 to pop the question, and Sara, with a heart full of love, joyously said yes.

A Chic Caribbean Wedding Dream styled shoot was created with the passion to the destination weddings in the Caribbean. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Punta Cana’s pristine beaches and lush palm trees, this styled shoot captures the essence of a chic Caribbean wedding with a touch of modern elegance. The azure sky, crystal-clear waters, and golden sands create a dreamy canvas for this romantic affair.

We incorporated lots of rich and bright colours, which is a trend for 2024. More and more couples tend to gravitate towards more colourful wedding designs nowadays and we wanted to give them some more inspiration and to show what is possible to do with the colours.

We also wanted to showcase different styles of attire that brides could wear on their wedding day, besides a wedding dress. The bride wears stunning, contemporary gowns with intricate details and a flowing silhouette, perfectly capturing the blend of sophistication and island charm. One of the attire is pants and an oversizes shirt in a light material or an oversized shirt worn as a cocktail dress for the dancing portion of the night. These two attire options were custom designed by the Canadian designer Matthew Davignon.

Lush, vibrant floral arrangements feature prominently in the decor, with bouquets and centerpieces incorporating local blooms. We showcased two designs for the table settings, one more classy and the second one is more playful and airy with some fresh fruits and happy yellow elements.

Capturing the essence of romance and luxury against the backdrop of Punta Cana’s natural beauty, this chic Caribbean wedding styled shoot is a testament to the allure of destination weddings in the heart of paradise.

A good wedding skincare prep means that your skin will be clear and luminous and it will help your makeup stay put so you can enjoy yourself without worrying about your beauty look Your pre-wedding skincare regime should definitely include some medical-grade products. The holy grail? Vitamin C, retinol, moisturizer, and sunscreen. If you do nothing else, please, please, please wear sunscreen every day!

As a provider, we always suggest starting your treatments a few months before the wedding to ensure everything is perfect. The earlier you start, the better! Ideally, begin about 4-6 months out so we can craft a treatment plan and just do touch-ups as needed. Schedule those touch-ups no sooner than a month before your wedding.

How Priorities Change with Time

Getting married at a later stage in life can be a profoundly different experience compared to tying the knot in your twenties or thirties. The guest list, for one, becomes significantly more meaningful. Having gone through a previous marriage, I learned the hard way how crucial it is to be surrounded by those who genuinely love and support you. Gone are the days of inviting your mother-inlaw’s bridge club just to keep the peace. Now, it's all about intimacy and genuine connection. With just 70 people on the invite list, each guest holds a special place in our hearts. It’s a stark contrast to my first wedding with nearly 200 attendees, many of whom were just acquaintances.

No Wedding Party, No Problem

One of the perks of marrying later is that the concept of a wedding party feels unnecessary. With a tribe of close loved ones, including my three adult daughters and his adult children, we have plenty of support. The pressure to choose a few bridesmaids out of an amazing group of friends feels more like a burden than a tradition worth keeping. Plus, it spares everyone the financial strain of the bridesmaid dress black hole, where expenses can spiral out of control. Our approach is more of a team effort, with each loved one contributing to the day in their unique way. This feels far more personal and authentic.

Redefining Traditions

Overcoming Ageism and Biases

We’re embracing a non-traditional approach to our wedding. My dad won’t be walking me down the aisle – he did that once already. This time, I'm walking myself. This wedding isn't about being given away; it's about a partnership between two equals. My best friend, who got licensed just for this occasion, will be officiating our non-religious ceremony. There’s no first dance, no father-daughter dance, no mother-son dance. It's all about stripping away the elements that don't resonate with us and focusing on what does.

Surprisingly, planning a wedding later in life has its own set of challenges, particularly when it comes to dealing with ageism and sexism. Attending bridal shows, I’ve encountered vendors who are astonished to learn that someone my age is a bride. Their reactions, ranging from disbelief to condescension, are both frustrating and illuminating. These biases extend beyond vendors to societal expectations – people often question why we’re even bothering with a wedding at our age. But why shouldn’t we celebrate our love just because we're not in our twenties?

Blending Families and Honoring Elders

Family dynamics also play a unique role in our wedding planning. With adult children and elderly parents, the considerations are different. Unlike younger couples blending young families, our children are independent adults with their own lives. This wedding is about us, not about merging households. We’re also mindful of our parents’ health and mobility, which influenced our decision to stay local rather than opting for a destination wedding.

A Celebration Reflecting Us

Ultimately, our wedding is a reflection of our values and our relationship. We’re fortunate to have the financial means to afford whatever we want, but our focus is on creating a day that truly represents us, rather than ticking off traditional boxes. This one day is a celebration of our life together, and it’s important that it feels authentic. Our decisions, from not having a wedding party to choosing a close friend as our officiant, are all about making the day meaningful for us.
