When it came to themes and textures, the idea was to play up the luxurious yet earthy feel of fall. We incorporated rich velvets, organic linens, and textured ceramics to add depth and character to the tablescapes and décor. The floral arrangements, featuring deep red roses, burgundy dahlias, and lush greenery, created a focal point of romance and warmth, perfectly highlighting the beauty of the season. The pops of color in the flowers weren’t just about autumn; they were also chosen to reflect passion and love, making them a natural fit for a wedding setting.

The Bae Lab’s mobile beauty studio (a 32ft RV) rolled up right beside the venue, making bridal prep both convenient and fun. The bride’s hair and makeup were designed to enhance her natural beauty, with the talented stylist and artist creating a look that perfectly captured an elegant and timeless feel. The relaxed, fun atmosphere of the mobile beauty studio added to the overall experience. The relaxed vibe continued as the bride used the Bae Lab space to change into her gown. The venue, Cardinal Weddings & Event Venue, located near Saskatoon, provided a breathtaking prairie backdrop and a modern white barn, blending rustic charm with sleek elegance.

Bella Dolce’s stationery embraced the dark, jewel-tone theme with a luxurious burgundy velvet laser-cut invitation paired with a navy envelope liner featuring vibrant jewel-tone florals. Rose gold foil details and hand-tied velvet bows on the place cards added a touch of luxury and whimsy. Soft blush menus and stationery popped against darker linens, complementing the rose gold charger plates and highlighting the elegant, sophisticated feel. A two-tier buttercream masterpiece created by Teri’s Cake Studio was adorned with fresh florals that reflected the deep blues of the décor.

The creation of décor and florals from Infinity Events & Décor and Infinity Florals reflected current trends, including bold color palettes, intimate celebrations, and dramatic floral installations. The mix of jewel tones with velvet textures created a luxurious yet inviting atmosphere. Nostalgic elements like velvet bows and playful disco balls added a fun, retro vibe. Candlelight enhanced the mood, casting a warm glow over the space.

The bride’s gown from The Bridal Boutique featured modern peekaboo mesh details, blending classic elegance with a contemporary twist, while Caswell’s dressed the groom in rich greens and golds tied everything together, exuding opulence and charm. The shoot was a perfect example of how thoughtful design can seamlessly merge modern trends with timeless romance.

Nestled in the heart of the countryside, The Rustic Barn is a venue that exudes timeless beauty with modern touches, perfect for couples seeking that magical mix of rustic elegance and country charm. From the Instagram-worthy getting-ready room to the intimate parlour and the charming chapel, every corner of this venue tells a story. For this editorial, we played up those dreamy elements with a soft neutral color palette, two stunning bridal gowns, and a feast for the eyes in the form of mismatched vintage table settings and tea sets.

The décor kept things simple yet intentional—minimal florals in muted tones balanced the abundant bridal bouquet, while color-coordinated bubbly made for a picture-perfect toast. Every detail was thoughtfully curated to reflect both the charm of the venue and the uniqueness of a couple’s love story. With an upstairs loft, a main floor, and a private Airbnb for the couple or guests, The Rustic Barn is more than just a wedding venue—it’s a canvas for unforgettable moments.

The key to mismatched settings is to find balance. Stick to a cohesive color palette or theme (like vintage or boho) and let each piece feel like it belongs in the same family. For this shoot, we used delicate tea sets and vintage plates in soft hues that complemented the overall design, creating a whimsical yet harmonious feel.

From SCHOOLMATES to SOULMATES

We knew of each other growing up through junior high and high school, but it wasn’t until a university date at the zoo that we really reconnected. From that moment on, we knew we were going to spend a lot more time together.

Over the next six years, we got to know each other better, fell in love, traveled, and eventually moved into our first home. We even adopted our first cat! Our engagement was a magical surprise during a weekend away at Derek’s family cabin at Grand Beach, MB. Derek called me out to the deck to show me the beautiful view over the water. As I admired it, he got down on one knee and popped the question.

Our engagement period was amazing and carefree, thanks to our wonderful wedding planner and vendors. They crafted the most beautiful inspiration boards and brought to life dreams we didn’t even know we had for our wedding day. The day itself was flawless. Everything ran smoothly, and the decorations were stunning. The flowers, in particular, were a focal point, transforming the space into a whimsical, colorful, dreamy paradise.

We wouldn’t change a thing about the day; it was perfect in every way.

Our LOVE Story

From BAR Stools to WEDDING Bells

We met at a bar in 2010. Yep, the classic “We locked eyes over a crowded room,” scenario. I always joke that it was fate—and a little bit of liquid courage—that brought us together that night. Little did we know, that chance meeting would set the stage for a journey filled with laughter, challenges, and a whole lot of love.

The Long-Distance Tango

Fast forward to 2011, and I was packing my bags for Toronto to pursue my Bachelor of Design. It wasn’t easy leaving Winnipeg—and especially not easy leaving him. Four years of long-distance calls, weekend visits, and a gazillion texts later, I finally returned home in 2015. By then, we’d mastered the art of love across miles and time zones. Honestly, if we could survive that, we knew we could handle anything.

Building Our Family

Our first son was born in 2018, bringing a new kind of joy and chaos into our lives. Sleep? What’s that? Diapers and baby giggles became our new normal. In September 2019, he planned the most romantic proposal—in a hot air balloon! But Winnipeg’s weather had other plans. Multiple cancellations meant that, to this day, we still haven’t taken that balloon ride. Fingers crossed for 2024!

Life kept us busy, and our family grew again in 2020 with the arrival of our second son. Amid the diaper changes and midnight feedings, we knew we wanted to make it official. But between the pandemic throwing the world into chaos and our work schedules being packed during summer months, our wedding plans took a backseat.

Wedding Planning: A Roller Coaster

January 2023 rolled around, and we finally kicked our wedding planning into high gear. Gusto North was our dream venue, and a live band was a must. Surprisingly, everything else fell into place pretty quickly. We chose April, knowing it would be a bit quieter on the wedding scene and give us some flexibility with vendors.

Life threw us a curveball when my father was diagnosed with cancer in October 2022. It was a tough blow, but it also made me realize how much I wanted him at our wedding. Thankfully, he was there, and in a moment that still brings tears to my eyes, he walked me down the aisle. He passed away in September 2023, but I’ll always cherish that he was part of our special day

The Big Day

Our wedding in April 2023 was everything we dreamed of. Beautiful, intimate, and full of joy. Seeing our two boys there, being surrounded by friends and family—it was perfect. There was laughter, happy tears, and enough love to fill a thousand hot air balloons.

Here we are now, navigating life, love, and parenthood, with an eye on that elusive balloon ride in 2024. Our story is a testament to the fact that love isn’t always easy, but it’s always worth it. And if there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that the best plans are the ones that come with a few unexpected twists and turns.

Here’s to more adventures, more love, and maybe, just maybe, that hot air balloon ride we’ve been dreaming of.

LOVE across the miles

It all started with a friendly nudge from a coworker. “I’ve got someone you need to meet,” she said, and so, I met Ryan. I never imagined that this would be my last first date!

Our early days were a bit challenging with Ryan living in Churchill and me in Winnipeg. But we made it work. Ryan would visit Winnipeg whenever he could, and when he couldn’t, we’d spend hours on FaceTime. Six months into our relationship, Ryan told me he was moving back to Winnipeg. Hearing those words felt like music to my ears!

As the years passed, our bond grew stronger. Through the hustle and bustle of daily life, being with Ryan always brought me a sense of peace. He’s the one who makes me laugh when I’m down and has the kindest heart I’ve ever known.

The proposal was nothing short of perfect. At the cabin, sitting by the fire under a sky full of stars, just the two of us and our dogs, Ryan asked me to marry him. It was magical.

We initially planned a wedding for about 100 guests, but both being a bit introverted, we soon realized we wanted something more intimate. So, we canceled our original venue and found the perfect spot at Falcon Trails Resort. We rented five cabins for our immediate family, a few close friends, and, of course, our two little dogs, Freddie and Watson.

One of the best decisions we made was having a first look, thanks to Ryan’s suggestion. It was wonderful to share a quiet moment together before the ceremony. We chose not to have a wedding party, but my good friend officiated our ceremony, making it even more special.

The day of our wedding was a beautiful autumn day. We married on a dock by the lake, surrounded by nature, our family, and friends. It was simple, elegant, and exactly what we wanted. With everyone we love around us, I married my soulmate.

STEPHANIE & TYRELL

In 2015, Stephanie’s love story with Tyrell began with a twist of fate and a favorite song. Stephanie was playing hockey for the U of R Cougars, while Tyrell was on the ice for the Raymore Rockets. After a victorious game, Stephanie and her teammates headed to a country bar to celebrate. As luck would have it, Tyrell and his team chose the same bar, seeking solace after a tough loss.

In the midst of chatting with a mutual friend, Stephanie’s favorite song suddenly filled the room. Without thinking, she reached across the circle to grab the hand of a tall, handsome stranger. That stranger was Tyrell. They shared a dance, exchanged names, and unknowingly started a journey that would lead them to a lifetime of love.

Fast forward to New Year’s 2023, where Stephanie and Tyrell found themselves playing a game of pool against each other. Tyrell racked the balls and told Stephanie to break. As she leaned in, she noticed something glimmering beside the white ball—a ring. In that moment, she knew their story was about to take a beautiful turn.

When it came time to plan their wedding, there was no question that it had to be at their beloved lake, where they had spent so many cherished moments together. They had often admired the celebrations taking place in tents at Camp Lutherland from the water, and they knew this was the perfect spot for them.

Stephanie and Tyrell envisioned an elegant celebration, with vibrant colors and lush florals that would complement the green grass and sparkling waters of the lake. With the incredible help of their coordinator, Bri. and florist, Payton, their vision came to life. From garlands and florals hanging from the tent lights to colored candles, stunning bouquets, and a beautiful floral meadow, their day was nothing short of an elegant dream.

The ceremony began at 4 p.m., officiated by a close friend—who also happened to be the wife of the mutual friend who had introduced them. Afterward, they moved right into cocktail hour, where they made sure to attend and enjoy their favorite drinks: espresso martinis and margaritas. As the sun set, they snuck away to capture some stunning photos before dancing the night away with their guests until 4 a.m.

The days leading up to the wedding were filled with rain, cold, and high winds, but on their special day, the weather was perfect— calm, sunny, and a glorious 25 degrees. The lake was so still it looked like glass. Stephanie and her bridesmaids started the morning with a quick boat ride to admire the venue from the water, and Stephanie and Tyrell ended the night doing the same, this time at 5 a.m.

Their wedding day was truly a reflection of the love they share and the life they’ve built together—a celebration as timeless and beautiful as the lake that witnessed it all.

TAYLOR & THOMAS

It’s funny how life works out in the most unexpected ways. My family owns a local bicycle store, and over the years, Thomas became a familiar face. As an avid cyclist, runner, and triathlete, he frequently stopped by our shop for gear and even joined my brother on countless bike rides. What I didn’t know at the time was that my entire family—my brother, his wife, and even my sister’s husband—had secretly pegged Thomas as the perfect match for me.

Fast forward to 2021, when I was swiping through Tinder one day and came across a profile that stopped me in my tracks: it was Thomas. I swiped right, of course, and hoped for a match. Little did I know, Thomas had seen my profile too but hesitated, unsure if he should swipe because of his friendship with my brother. After a few weeks of debating, he actually invested in Tinder Premium just to find my profile again (how cute is that?!). When we finally matched, I showed his picture to my mom, and she instantly recognized him. Turns out, she’d been hoping this day would come all along!

Thomas messaged me on a Tuesday night in March 2022, and from that moment, we’ve spoken every single day. A few months later, on June 1st, he officially asked me to be his girlfriend, and exactly one year later, he proposed. The proposal was simple but perfect: just the two of us, having a quiet picnic by the river. It was intimate, peaceful, and so us.

We always envisioned a small, meaningful wedding, and that’s exactly what we had. Surrounded by about 50 of our closest friends and family, we celebrated our love in a setting that reflected everything we wanted—timeless, elegant décor and florals that created a warm and classic atmosphere. It was the most magical day, and we wouldn’t have changed a thing!

a day filled with love, laughter, and simple elegance

We first met at a local pub, out with some mutual friends. Fast forward, and in 2025, we’ll be celebrating nine years together! Our proposal was nothing fancy, but it was absolutely perfect—a sweet, quiet moment in our kitchen that still makes us smile.

When it came to our wedding day, it was exactly what we dreamed of. We pulled so much inspiration from Pinterest to bring our vision to life, mixing and matching colors and taking lots of advice from family and friends. The result was a simple yet elegant setup. We didn’t want to go overboard with the table décor, so we kept it minimal with gorgeous flowers surrounding us. Less was definitely more in this case, and we couldn’t have been happier with how it all turned out.

One of our favorite touches was a selfie mirror! It was a hit, especially during the cocktail hour. Watching our guests enjoy it was so much fun. For our own photos, we headed out to the groom’s parents’ acreage, where he grew up. The wind may have been a bit wild, but it only added to the charm—the photos turned out stunning!

We had a big wedding party with seven on each side. It was such a blast having all our closest friends by our side for the day. The girls got ready at the bride’s parents’ house, and the boys at the groom’s parents’. The ceremony was held at a church, followed by photos, and then we made our way back to the venue just in time for dinner at 6. We ate, shared heartfelt speeches, and danced the night away! Our DJ took requests, and the dance floor was packed all night long.

Having an amazing photographer and videographer was one of the best decisions we made. They captured every beautiful moment, and now we have those memories to look back on forever. It was truly the most amazing day of our lives!

Nicole’s wedding was the embodiment of love, laughter, and joy. With her closest friends and family by her side, she planned a day that reflected who she and her partner, Scott, truly are: laid-back, fun, and deeply connected to the people they love most.

From the start, Nicole knew she wanted her wedding to be stress-free and intimate, more like a gathering of loved ones than a formal affair. “It was just a party with our closest friends and family,” she shared, fondly recalling the day. True to her vision, the wedding was everything she hoped it would be—an effortless celebration of love, without overwhelming pressure.

Personal and Meaningful

One of the key decisions Nicole made early on was to focus on keeping the day personal. She and Scott chose not to have a bridal party, which allowed them to focus solely on each other and the special people who joined them. This no-fuss approach set the tone for the entire event, making it feel like a heartfelt gathering rather than a traditional wedding.

The Importance of Photography

When it came to capturing the memories of the day, Nicole’s choice of photographer was equally important. She and Scott opted for Chantelle Dion, a portrait photographer, instead of a traditional wedding photographer. “We didn’t want those Instagram-perfect, posed photos. We wanted something that felt authentic and more in line with who we are,” Nicole explained.

The results were exactly what she had hoped for— candid moments that reflected the love, warmth, and connection that defined the day. Nicole believes the key to great wedding photos is communication. “Make sure your photographer understands what moments are important to you, even if they aren’t on the typical shot list,” she advises.

A Few Helpful Tips

Nicole has some valuable advice for future brides, the most important being: Start getting ready earlier than you think you need to. “Time goes by so fast, and before you know it, you’re running out of time

to do all the little things,” she laughs. Despite the time crunch, the day ran smoothly, and Nicole loved the relaxed vibe they were able to create by planning ahead.

Intimate and Special Moments

Nicole was filled with gratitude for the personal touches that made her wedding uniquely theirs. From the intimate ceremony officiated by her best friend to the handwritten vows filled with hu-mor and heartfelt moments, every detail was a reflection of their love story. “I’m so glad we wrote our own vows,” she shared. “They were funny and quirky, and because our friends know us so well, everyone was in on the jokes. It just made the day that much more special.”

A Few Surprises

One of the standout moments from Nicole’s day was the surprise performance by local artist JD Edwards. “That was a huge surprise and such a highlight of the day,” she said. Those unexpected moments added even more magic to their wedding.

Post-Wedding Celebrations

The celebration didn’t stop with the wedding day. Nicole and Scott hosted a pool party the day after for their out-of-town guests, though the weather had its own plans. “We had a few chilly days in the middle of summer, so people were wrapped up in blankets instead of enjoying the pool,” she joked. But even with the unexpected weather, the postwedding gathering was a hit, giving them more time with the people they love.

Looking Back with No Regrets

As Nicole reflects on the day, she wouldn’t change a thing. “It was perfect,” she said. “If I could offer any advice to brides, it would be to make sure you take time alone with your partner during the day. Things get so busy, and you want to savor those moments together.”

In the end, Nicole’s wedding was everything she had envisioned—a laid-back, love-filled celebra-tion surrounded by the people who matter most. And that’s what weddings are all about: the love, the joy, and the memories that will last a lifetime.

The day began at the Fort Garry Hotel where we were greeted with smiling faces, a luxurious and relaxing atmosphere, and beautiful floral arrangements. We were very impressed by their attention to detail and how they made a strong effort to incorporate their dogs, Atticus and Emmitt. Seeing those wagging tails and little tuxedos immediately set the tone for a day filled with love and laughter.

Photographing their ceremony at St. Ignatius Catholic Church was a dream. From the wooden pews to the high ceilings, the tradition, and the history, we witnessed Courtney, Mark, and their family connect deeply with their faith. The solemnity of the moment, the way the light filtered through the stained glass, and the emotional expressions of their loved ones provided endless opportunities for capturing timeless images.

Courtney expressed how much she loved the editorial style of our photography, so the legislative building was our next stop to capture a few images. They both really enjoyed this time to shine in front of our lenses. The grand architecture and dramatic lighting were perfect for creating those stunning, high-fashion shots that Courtney adored. This was followed by a drink at the Oval Room, where we captured some quiet, candid moments.

By this point, we felt like we were guests with cameras. Courtney and Mark were so easy-going with the best sense of humor. Their laughter was contagious, making our job feel less like work and more like a joyful experience shared with friends.

Reception and party shots are some of our favorite moments to photograph! There was a variety of emotions that evening, but mostly celebratory. What inspired you to choose the specific location for your wedding destination?

We love the beach and heat, and it’s our happy place. We also wanted a backdrop that’s different from what we see every day in Saskatchewan. Plus, having a full week with our closest friends and family felt like a perfect way to slow down and enjoy the celebration. The rooftop location at our resort added the “Hollywood” vibe we were going for, which sealed the deal.

Why did you decide to bring a local photographer instead of hiring one at the destination?

After seeing the resort photographers, we felt their style was too posed and airbrushed for us. When we saw Amanda from AZ Photography, her natural style and editorial flair matched exactly what we envisioned for our big day.

What were your top considerations when selecting a photographer for your destination wedding?

We wanted someone who focused on the couple’s portraits and had an artistic, editorial touch. Comfort was key too, and Amanda made us feel completely at ease from the start. Her attention to detail, especially with capturing the small moments, was a huge plus.

What questions did you ask your photographer before deciding to bring them along?

Budget and style were the big ones. We wanted to make sure we could afford her, but also that we were all on the same page creatively. After meeting Amanda, we knew her relaxed approach and vision matched what we wanted perfectly.

How did you and your photographer plan the logistics of the trip?

We coordinated with our travel agent to ensure Amanda’s travel worked with our timeline. We also had her arrive a few days early in case of any travel hiccups. We covered all her travel costs to make sure everything was smooth.

How do you envision your wedding photos capturing the essence of your destination?

We want the photos to capture our love in a beautiful setting, with the beach and palm trees as our canvas. The natural beauty of the location is important, but what matters most is capturing the joy and emotion of our day.

What are the unique challenges of photographing a destination wedding? Transporting gear can be tricky, especially with the risk of delays or lost luggage. It’s also important to research any permits or restrictions for shooting in another country to avoid surprises.

How do you prepare for shooting in a location you’ve never been to before?

I make sure to arrive at least a day early to scout the venue and familiarize myself with the surroundings. Google Earth and online research also help me get a feel for the location beforehand.

What advice would you give to couples considering bringing a local photographer to their destination wedding? Meet in person (or virtually) to ensure you’re aligned on the vision. Open communication about the financial investment, travel expectations, and style is key to a smooth experience.

How do you ensure the couple’s vision is captured despite the challenges of a new environment?

Arriving a day early allows me to assess the best spots for photos and track the lighting throughout the day. That extra time gives me the creative freedom to ensure the couple’s vision comes to life in the new setting.

How far in advance should we start planning our destination wedding?

Do we need to visit the location before the wedding?

It’s highly recommended but not absolutely necessary. If you can swing a visit, it’s a great chance to tour venues, meet vendors, and get a feel for the vibe. If not, no worries! A trusted planner can handle this for you and provide virtual tours or video calls with vendors. Will we need to hire local vendors, or can we bring our own?
