MILESTONES CELEBRATING

AGT Foods CEO Murad Al-Katib and members of the North Dakota U S Congressional Delegation joined the North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner, the Minot Area Chamber EDC (MACEDC) and the community on July 22nd in marking the opening of the new AGT Foods - Extrusion Center in Minot. The Extrusion Center continues to put AGT Foods and Minot at the center of innovation in both pulse-based ingredients and now extruded products such as gluten free pasta.

“AGT Foods is proud to open our Extrusion Center of Excellence in Minot This community has been a key part of our operations in the United States and in the great State of North Dakota, with this being our second facility in Minot,” said AGT Foods CEO Murad Al-Katib “The opportunity to develop and produce innovative plant-based products made in this new facility, such as our gluten-free pasta including our Veggi line, extruded crispy snacks, meat alternatives that are being used in burgers and other meat substitutes as well as pulse ingredients for food companies and some of the bestknown consumer packaged goods brands, is exciting for AGT Foods and our team in Minot.“

“Our Minot Extrusion Center of Excellence is an important part of AGT’s growth and our business strategy as we continue to offer high quality, plantbased products,” Al-Katib continued “North Dakota and the agriculture sector here has a long history of growing high quality pulses and grains, and has logistics advantages to distribute these products in the U S A and around the globe as well Demand for plant-based protein and gluten-free products is growing and we are proud to produce and deliver our plant-based and gluten-free products from farm to fork from right here in Minot.”

With the renovated multi-million-dollar facility, AGT Foods’ long-term goal is to position the location and the region as the center of gluten-free pasta production and packaging in North America

“North Dakota is the number one producer of pulse crops in the nation, and that comes as a result of our efforts to attract added-value agriculture investments, like AGT’s recent expansion, which gives our pulse growers a local market and reduced transportation costs,” said U.S. Senator John Hoeven (N.D.). “Value-added processing facilities like this solidify our state as an ag powerhouse for the world That’s exactly why I’ve worked since my time as governor to prioritize projects like AGT’s extrusion plant, while supporting agriculture research to strengthen our ability to grow all kinds of crops in our state with better yields and lower input costs However, at the end of the day, all of this hinges on providing an adequate safety net for our producers, so they can continue growing the highest-quality, lowest-cost food supply in the world. That is why we continue our efforts to keep the farm in the farm bill.”

“Today’s event commemorates an exciting addition to our agricultural processing capabilities here in North Dakota,” said U.S. Sen. Kevin Cramer (N.D.). “This investment in Minot is a recognition of the critical role our state plays in feeding the country and world Congratulations to the team at AGT Foods on their new Extrusion Center ”

The Extrusion Center currently features one production line with more than 9 million pounds of capacity with the ability to expand to more than 40 million pounds of gluten free pasta, making the Minot facility one of the largest gluten free pasta production facilities in the world.

“Congratulations to AGT Foods on their new Extrusion Center in Minot,” said North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring. “This is a welcome addition to our value-added agriculture chain in the state and will assist producers throughout the region in bringing greater value to their crops while continuing to showcase the agricultural innovation and excellence that exists in North Dakota "

“We are very proud as a community, region and state to see the continued growth of AGT Foods in Minot, North Dakota,” said Minot Area Chamber EDC President | CEO Brekka Kramer “As one of the region’s largest employers, AGT Foods is highly influential in growing the value-added agriculture industry and we are excited to see what the future holds as they position the new Extrusion Center and Minot to be the heart of innovation and growth in a variety of products, such as gluten free pasta.”

The Extrusion Center joins more than $100 million in existing AGT Foods facilities in Minot and the area that have offered services for producers in the region and f h d d

U.S.SENATORJOHNHOEVENBRIEFS SENTINELUPDATESWITHTASKFORCE21

On July 15th, U.S. Senator John Hoeven joined Task Force 21 members at the Minot Area Chamber EDC (MACEDC) office to provide an update on the advancement in modernization of the dual-nuclear missions at Minot Air Force Base

Hoeven led consultation on how to best help the Minot area & state of North Dakota prepare for the Sentinel Program, consisting of critical modernization of the land-based leg of the nuclear triad that will replace the Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) system, which has been in service for over 50 years There was additional discussion on Hoeven’s recent efforts to secure critical military construction priorities for Minot in the Senate’s annual funding legislation for Fiscal Year (FY) 2025, his work with DoD leadership to maintain the Sentinel program during the recent Nunn-McCurdy review, and a push for accelerating the schedule of the Sentinel Program.

“We need to keep advancing nuclear modernization so we can effectively counter the capabilities being developed by Russia and China. The Minot community is a critical part of this effort, which is why we’re engaging in an active planning process with local leaders, while also pressing for concurrent construction at all three bases to keep these programs on track and help reduce costs,” said Hoeven.

MACEDC and Task Force 21 are continuing to monitor any updates regarding Sentinel, and are pleased to hear that so much consideration is being put into the community prior to the project’s initiation

ADOPTANAIRMAN

The Adopt an Airman program fosters supportive relationships between Minot community members and Airmen who are just starting their Air Force careers. First-term Airmen enrolled in the program are not only new to the Air Force, but many are far away from home, family, and friends for the first time In addition to the Airmen themselves adjusting to these life changes, some are newly married, so their spouses are also experiencing the strains of these significant transitions Adjusting to the demands of being in the military and living in a new town far away from family can be stressful and lonely. It’s crucial that our Airman feel at home “outside the gate”. You as a host will benefit from an increased understanding of military life and a joy in knowing that you are making a positive difference in the lives of these young Airmen By providing a home-cooked meal or an adventure in Minot or the surrounding area, a listening ear, or a sound piece of advice, we hope that you will develop a friendship that will last even beyond these Airmen’s first assignment here in Minot

Minot State University, in collaboration with the Central Regional Education Association (CREA) and Anderson, Conn, and Tenam-Zemach Consulting, LLC (also known as Drop the Knowledge), is proud to announce the development and statewide approval of the CP2R Classroom Observation Tool

This innovative tool, designed by Minot State’s Nathan Anderson and Dan Conn, along with Michelle Tenam-Zemach and Erica Alstad, has been approved by the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction for use in public PK-12 schools across North Dakota.

The CP2R Classroom Observation Tool offers a comprehensive approach to evaluating teachers, rooted in person-environment (P-E) fit literature. The tool focuses on the alignment between individuals and their environment, building upon the CPR Success and Failure Analysis framework

"Using CP2R language and tools in schools can help cultivate robust learning environments and perspectives that continuously support the holistic well-being of teachers and students With suitable conditions and healthy mindsets, we believe all educators and learners are capable of positively impacting themselves and others by consciously doing what they can do well and want to do," said Anderson, MSU director of institutional assessment and founding partner of Anderson, Conn & TenamZemach Consulting LLC.

"The thought, research, content, and tools that have been put into CP2R are exactly what is needed in education right now,” said Luke Schaefer, CREA CEO “As teacher retention and recruitment efforts are sought, a solution that allows educators to renew their passions and become better teachers couldn’t come at a better time Every school should consider empowering their teaching staff with CP2R "

The framework comprises four domains: capacity, passion, presence, and relevance Additionally, last spring, in collaboration with Minot State University, Minot Public Schools, and Drop the Knowledge, three schools in Minot Public School District piloted the CP2R Classroom Observation Tool

Due to its success, a second pilot study will be conducted in Fall 2024 In collaboration with the CREA and MSU, Drop the Knowledge will launch the tool across schools in North Dakota. The pilot will include access to the classroom observation tool, five sessions of professional development, and optional coaching with trained consultants from Drop the Knowledge.

During the second pilot study, participating administrators and teachers will also have the opportunity to earn graduate credits through MSU, further enhancing their professional development

"The CP2R classroom evaluation system is a game changer for schools,” said Tenam-Zemach, founding Partner of Anderson, Conn & Tenam-Zemach Consulting LLC “It provides the words and ideas needed to build open, honest, and impactful communication within and across schools and districts to transform teaching and learning."

‘THOSEWHOCAN’:MINOTSTATEUNIVERSITY

EXHIBITION

Six Minot State University art students are exhibiting in their graduate capstone art exhibition, “Those Who Can ” Featuring Micki Borkhuis, Kiah Hove, Tienna Johnson, Allison Muncaster, Rayson Renfrow, and Michael Stein, the exhibition will open with a reception at the Northwest Arts Center on Friday, Aug 2, at 6:30 p m and will be on display until Aug 28

Capstone is the culminating experience for art majors, allowing them to apply what they have learned in their time at Minot State University. The students are each pursuing a Master of Education with a focus in arts education. This exhibition commemorates their years of art experience at the University and professional level and showcases their skills.

Borkhuis, an art teacher at Magic City Campus, explores ceramics as a part of her artistic practice. She embraces personal challenges as she experiments and grows her knowledge with the medium. “Through teaching ceramics, I have found a love for wheel thrown ceramics. I’m constantly reminded that when we celebrate our failures in art, we find our own path to success,” said Borkhuis

Hove has taught high-school ceramics for the last five years and is continuing to challenge her relationship with ceramics through wheel-thrown work “The wheel and I are still figuring each other out, but I can see the beauty in these little pots because I know the struggle I went through to create them and the grace I’ve allowed myself to continue making mistakes,” Hove stated

Johnson, who teaches middle school art in Bismarck, connects her love of reading with her art practice She describes her ceramics as being similar to a “ mass of books filling a shelf.” “Creating this body of work has generated an unprecedented link between two of my favorite things, making pottery and reading. Like a book, there is a great deal of time and energy that goes into creating a piece of pottery that cannot be necessarily seen in its final form,” said Johnson.

Muncaster currently teaches high school art in rural North Dakota. Her art practice recently has focused on photography, aiming to “capture the essence of those fleeting moments.” “Each piece in this collection captures a different phase of growth and transition, showcasing the beauty of change and the significance of the memories that shape us Through my artwork, I hope to evoke emotions and spark reflection on the importance of embracing every phase of life, no matter how fleeting it may be,” said Muncaster

Renfrow explores the relationship between photography and printmaking in addition to teaching art in Glenburn “Often my work deals with the concept of memory, time, and change as I am fascinated with how each can affect the other In this body of work, all the source imagery comes from a collection of family photographs that have been passed down to me,” said Renfrow

Stein, who has taught high school art for the last 28 years while also being a wrestling coach, uses his art to capture the transient nature of existence. “My goal as an artist is to provoke thought and evoke emotion. I want viewers to pause and reflect on their own experiences, their own conflicts, to find beauty in fleeting moments, and to appreciate the intricate balance between stability and disorder. Many of my pieces are a testament to the ever-changing world we live in and a reminder to cherish the present,” said Stein.

A reception with the artists will be held at the Northwest Arts Center in the Walter Piehl Gallery on Friday, Aug. xhibition and reception are free and open to the public.
