REFLECTIONS OF Life

Manager, a Master Trainer, and a graduate of the University of Kentucky's College Business Management Institute. She received numerous awards as North Carolina Public Manager. Of the many awards and honors she has received, her most treasured award came in 1988, when she was honored and recognized as University Employee of the Year for outstanding and dedicated service.

She was married for 39 years to her college sweetheart, the late Ernest R. Canada, who passed in 1991. To this union two sons were born, the late Michael R. Canada and Ernest R. Canada, Jr. She and her late husband owned and operated the Canada Lodge Motel in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for over 40 years.

At an early age, Doris joined United Institutional Baptist Church and continued to support it with her presence and means until her death. In the early years, she was Church Secretary, Announcer and Sunday School Teacher. She remained active as a member of the Seniors Usher Ministry and Ward #2 where she served as Treasurer. Doris Canada believed in family and was a strong motivating force for family members and friends. In addition to her sons, she helped mold the lives of others: cousins, Linda Liggins Steward and Harriet Liggins Ross. She and her husband raised two nieces, Cynthia Dean Miller (Jerome) and Deborah Dean Lindsay (Donald). She loved and nurtured all of her nieces and nephews as well as friends. Her home was the house by the side of the road, where all were welcomed and offered a space at the family table, especially when her mother and grandmother were alive. She genuinely loved and cared for all people, and will be remembered for her friendliness and fairness in the way she looked at people, situations and life, and the faith that she had in God and mankind.

She served as a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Beta lot Omega Chapter; Order of Eastern Star, Immaculate Chapter #537, Daughters of Isis, Khalif Court # 90; the Royal Social Club; Pinochle and Bridge Clubs, The Double Deckers, Windsor Center Card Club and the Seidals Club; The AT Alumni Association, serving as president of the Gate City Chapter in the 70's.

Good Life

I lived a good life

In my heart I have no strife I've never been one to hold a grudge It fills your life with nothing but smudge

Now that God has called me from my earthly home Remember that I've lived a good life And that I have loved many and been loved by many.

To my family and friends I leave you memories, The laughs, the beach trips, and family dinners. Don't cry for me... I've lived a good life and Thank you for loving me.
