Hello and welcome to our Spring 2015 brochure Once again, Millfield Theatre & Dugdale Centre’s Spring 2015 season is packed full of quality, variety and endless entertainment. This February, pop legends The Three Degrees, will grace Millfield’s stage with their brand new live concert. March sees the welcome return of the Grammy nominated Godfathers of alternative cabaret, Tiger Lillies, and soul sensation Omar will wow audiences with his stunning vocals. And of course, our gorgeous cover star and Strictly Come Dancing favourite, Pasha Kovalev presents his incredible routines alongside special guests. In our studio theatre at Dugdale Centre, Lover’s Rock legend Janet Kay presents an up close and personal performance and Talon performs an exclusively acoustic set, both of which promise to be truly sensational. The incredible Vamos Theatre brings to life the true stories of nurses at the wartime Worcester Royal Infirmary in fully masked production, Nursing Lives. Not forgetting the sell-out success of the Dugdale Easter Pantomime – this year it’s Pinocchio!

THE CAFÉ @ THE DUGDALE

Whether visiting the Dugdale theatre or just passing by, the Café provides the perfect venue for a light lunch, a snack or the best ice cream in town! The perfect spot to unwind, read the papers and relax with a glass of wine or to recharge your batteries with a stiff espresso.

A £1.50 fee is added per transaction (not per ticket) and this includes postage. Booking fees are not charged if you pay in person with cash or card.

Our menu combines hearty dishes especially for the season with all-year-round favourites - the ideal excuse for sharing time with friends in the characterful walls and welcoming atmosphere of your local theatre. If you’re coming to see a show and would like to eat beforehand, we recommend you book a table so that our catering team can make sure you’re wined and dined in time for the start of the performance. Avoid the rush and order your interval drinks in advance as the bar gets very busy. The ideal place for a pre-theatre meal and drink. And of course, there’s free Wi-Fi so you can surf while you sip.

Thursday 22 January 7.30pm Q country music @ Millfield Theatre Country music fans will enjoy a unique treat when The Johnny Cash Roadshow rolls up at Millfield. Clive John, with The Spirit Band, re-create with astounding accuracy the deep bass-baritone voice and distinctive sound of his backing band. From the 1950s right up to 2002, all the greatest hits are included, Ring of Fire, Walk the Line as well as the Johnny and June duets Jackson and If I Were a Carpenter and so many more. The Man That Can’t be Moved

TALKIES community cinema The North London based comedian, Chris Marco K, is the best known Greek Cypriot in stand-up comedy. The Man That Can’t Be Moved is his oneman show based on a young man’s life experiences growing up in a Greek family and his outrageous adventures, filled with comedy stories and hilarious punchlines. This is a 16+ comedy show, with some sexual references and a bit of swearing.

Singer/songwriter Maria Evangelou’s style is an enticing dip back into 60s history. It shows off Maria’s motown, soul and jazz influences and can be compared to the likes of Amy Winehouse, Dionne Bromfield and Duffy.

We follow Alice’s new adventure meeting Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee, The Lion and The Unicorn, Humpty Dumpty, and The Jabberwock. Ian Shaw’s career in performance began unusually for a jazz musician on the Alternative Cabaret Circuit. Shaw was spotted by Dave Illic, jazz critic for City Limits and was described as ‘the voice of the decade’. He has since gone on to win Best Jazz Vocalist at the BBC Jazz Awards in 2004 and 2007, and has amassed a number of highly acclaimed albums.

The show uses many elements of theatre, mime, puppetry and songs to join in with.

Ian Shaw is an incredibly colourful character and has been cited as one of the world’s finest male jazz vocalists.

It’s a perfect introduction to live theatre for children who’ve never been to a show before.

Jazz-Poetry open mic, plus two special guests: Nancy Mattson has published three full poetry collections, her latest is Finns and Amazons from Arrowhead Press. She received a Hawthornden Fellowship. Nancy co-organises the popular Poetry in the Crypt reading series at St Mary’s Church crypt in Islington. John Harvey is an experienced jazz-poet, well-known as a writer of crime fiction; the first of his Charlie Resnick novels, Lonely Hearts, was named by The Times as one of the 100 most notable crime novels of the last century.

It’s the rags to the queens of drag tale of an all-male/female close harmony group The Supreme Fabulettes. Their razor-tongued manager navigates band splits and solo hits, against a backdrop of backstabbing, love and tears. Edmonton Camera Club reaches its 70th anniversary in March 2015 and are celebrating with the visit of Martin Parr, the renowned photographer, to speak at Millfield Theatre. He will be giving his lecture Photobiography, a look at the long career of Magnum photographer Martin Parr.

VerPlanck is admired by fans worldwide for her deft phrasing and personal interpretation of lyrics, delivering many standards with subtlety and aplomb. She’s also known for her attention to the story behind the song, with her sets often including a look at some of the rare and interesting anecdotes behind songwriters and their lyrics.

Throughout the current decade the club has regularly hosted exhibitions at Forty Hall and Dugdale Centre as well as submitting entries to the East Anglian Federation of Photographic Societies exhibitions. With their membership increasing and more people taking an interest in photography Edmonton Camera Club looks forward to celebrating many future achievements.
