Georgie

Fame In Concert

Thursday 18 September 7.45pm Q music legends at Millfield theatre Equipped with the warmest voice, the bluest Hammond organ and the hippest crew in town, Georgie Fame’s concert at Millfield is always a special occasion. He evokes the spirit of the Fabulous Flamingo basement bar in Soho, on a Friday all-nighter back in 1962, grooving with the Blue Flames until dawn. Fame, whose grey hair may give away the years but whose voice is astonishingly timeless, is the real thing. He oozes an effortless coolness, swinging out his greatest hits on the Hammond organ, accompanied by his sons on guitar and drums. With a distinctive style of singing and keyboard playing that embraces rhythm and blues, cool jazz, ballads, big band swing and straight-ahead grooving, he burns through his No 1’s Yeh Yeh, Getaway and The Ballad of Bonnie and Clyde and many other classics from his book. Fame is a British jazz institution, long may his soul remain blue.

Call Mr Robeson

SATURDAY 25 OctobeR 7.30PM HHHH X DRAMA At Dugdale Centre THE GUARDIAN Paul Robeson is a great and famous actor, singer and civil rights campaigner. When he gets too radical and outspoken for the establishment’s liking, he is branded a traitor to his country, is harassed, and denied opportunities to perform or travel. This rollercoaster journey through Robeson’s remarkable life highlights how his activism caused him to be disowned and forgotten, by leaders and descendants of the civil rights movement. It features some famous songs (including Ol’ Man River), speeches and a spectacularly defiant testimony to the Senate House Un-American Activities Committee. Age suitability: 12+ No violence, bad language, nudity or sexual content. Running time 80 minutes (no interval)

Animals & Friends with guest Steve Cropper

Wednesday 12 November 7.45pm Q mucis legends at Millfield Theatre House of The Rising Sun, Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood, We Gotta Get Out Of This Place and Boom Boom (as featured in the James Bond movie, ‘Skyfall’). The Tyneside band that shook the world back in 1964 have re-invented themselves, retaining the quality and distinct sound that was, and still is, Animals. Featuring from the original Animals John Steel and Mick Gallagher (The Blockheads), Danny Handley (Spencer Davis, Bobby Elliott, Ric Lee of Ten Years After) and Scott Whitley (Ric Lee). The band earned their name thanks to their wild stage act. That was 50 years ago but their music has lost none of its dynamism, it still makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. A rockin’ good show that will have Millfield bouncing.

Pilgrim Shadow PLUS A Recipe For Disaster

THUr 20 - SAT 22 November 7.45PM X DRAMA At Dugdale Centre Two completely different comic plays, brought together for a night of hilarious entertainment. Pilgrim Shadow tells how two petty criminals steal a spaceship and end up on the run, but Hi-Ho the story has a Silver Lining. This is the vessel of legendary treasure hunter Tim Shadow and somewhere on board is his lost treasure.

It’s all for the love, the music, the moves and the genius that is the pop icon of our generation.

A Recipe for Disaster follows the misguided idea of a bank robbery, while wearing the masks of Gordon Ramsey and Nigella Lawson. If that wasn’t silly enough, the robbers take on the personality of the mask they wear and that is a recipe for disaster.

This is it! This is as real as it gets, this is pure MJ!

Local playwrights Steve Jordan and Ray Newell present an evening of fun and laughter. Age suitability 16+
