Principal Theatre Company

the Merry Wives of Windsor

Capel Manor, Old Ashmolean Rugby Club, CORAM’S FIELDS, Oak Hill Park See website for ALL dates and times This summer Principal Theate Company will be staging Shakespeare’s hilarious family comedy The Merry Wives of Windsor. Paul Gladwin will be recreating the role of Sir John Falstaff, which he played for Principal in both Henry IV parts One and Two. This sensational play is adored by audiences all over the world and is certainly one of Shakespeare’s most delightful comedies. Merry Wives is a high-spirited romp that centres on the lovable rogue, Sir John Falstaff. Hard up for money and seeking to restore his riches, Falstaff attempts to woo the wives of Windsor’s two most prominent men. But the Windsor women see through his schemes and his plans go awry—with disastrous and hilarious consequences. Set during the week of the Queen’s Silver Jubilee in 1977, the Principal magic will involve street parties, music of the period, mayhem and mischief with a cast of 20 professional actor/musicians. This fabulously funny show is a joy to behold, suitable for all ages and is a definite date for the diary!

S KIE LE TAALT THE DUGDA

FILM

An amoral teenager develops an unexpected paternal side in this powerful drama from South Africa. Tsotsi (Presley Chweneyagae) is the street name used by a young Johannesburg delinquent who has taken to a life of crime in order to support himself. Tsotsi has developed a talent for violence as well as taking strange pleasure in hurting other people. One evening, Tsotsi shoots a woman while stealing her car, and only later discovers that her infant son is in the back seat. Uncertain of what to do with the baby, he tries to care for it and with time, the baby awakens a sense of humanity in him that life on the street had stripped away.

Once again Rudolph Walker has sent prestigious industry professionals into London Schools to devise groundbreaking drama, addressing topics very real and very relevant to us all. The projects culminate on the Millfield Theatre Stage with schools vying to become the 2014 Inter School Drama Champions under the scrutiny of our Celebrity panel of Judges.

14 February 1895 was the triumphant opening night of The Importance of Being Earnest and the zenith of Wilde’s career. Less than 100 days later, he found himself a common prisoner sentenced to two years hard labour.

“The truth is rarely pure and never simple” Oscar Wilde So what happened during the trials and what did Wilde say? Was he persecuted or the author of his own downfall? Using the original words spoken in court, we can feel what it was like to be in the company of a flawed genius - as this less than ideal husband was suddenly reduced to a man of no importance.
