Saint Nicholas Fair

Saturday 12th December - 11am - 7pm The Green Winchmore Hill London N21 1AY Nestled between Palmers Green, Southgate and Enfield and for some just another stop on the way to Moorgate, Winchmore Hill village surrounds two small greens that twice a year play host to the N21 Festival. Inspired by a book written over a century ago, the aim of the Festival is to bring together as much of the community as possible with the things everyone loves - music, arts and food. This year’s Saint Nicholas Fair on Saturday 13th December will be no different; the roads will be closed, the lights will twinkle, the aromas of hot chocolate, cinnamon, nutmeg and maybe something a little more mulled will be wafting through the air. An eclectic mix of retailers, entertainers, artisans and purveyors of fine food and drink will surround the open air stage where an equally exciting line-up of acts will perform. A traditional choir, a vocalist most recently seen on X-factor, a chart topping toe tapping blast from the past plus many more will keep the crowds entertained (and warm) all afternoon! The day will boast an impressive range of

11

activities that will keep the entire family - young and old – entertained and get the Christmas shopping done with smiles on faces and good cheer in the air. There are still some opportunities for stallholders, performers, sponsors or those who just want to get involved – we are counting down the days so please call us soon. This is a free event - only made possible by our dedicated band of volunteers and the generosity of our local businesses. We are grateful to our main sponsors, Geronimo Inns and Tessa Stevens, and for their help and support in bringing this event to life. For more information – please visit us at www. Treason, Plots and Murder

Tuesday 7th October – Sunday 22nd February Normal Opening Hours FREE Forty Hall & Estate are delighted to present this new exhibition on loan from the National 27 Portrait Gallery.

This display explores these unwholesome episodes through contemporary prints and raises questions about the role that print culture could play in promoting a highly biased version of events.

The seventeenth century was witness to frequent and often gruesome plots, scandals and murders. From the Gunpowder Plot in 1605 to the Rye House Plot of 1683, the motivation was often religious, although religion and political power were inextricably linked during the Stuart period. Not all seventeenth-century ‘plots’ were plots at all; the Popish Plot of 1678 was fabricated by Titus Oates with the consequence that dozens of innocent people were brutally executed. Sexual politics could be equally controversial and were central to the case of the Thomas Overbury murder in 1613.
