For more than half a century I have had the pleasure and privilege of enjoying many different concerts in Enfield venues. I have fond memories of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, giving their annual concert in the Regal Theatre, Edmonton conducted by the late Sir Colin Davies and the London Mozart Players conductor Harry Blech presenting concerts at Enfield County Upper School. Mrs. Archie Camden, brought a variety of solo musicians to Enfield County including the inimitable percussionist James Blades. Over the years there were many professional piano recitals, but eventually these performances were only in London venues. As a School Music Teacher these were amazing opportunities for our pupils. I have enjoyed listening to our long established organisations; the Enfield Choral Society, The Enfield Chamber Orchestra, The Southgate Opera and the Winchmore Strings and I’m looking forward to hearing the Enfield Music Service young musicians, Bella Cora and The Lynmore Singers. The Lunchtime Festival Club will be launched in the Dugdale Foyer where many wonderful young singers including Maria Evangelou, Joseph Ford Thompson, Giulia Laudano and two Enfield Primary School Choirs will be performing. Our professional Festival Accompanist is Adam Dickson, former Cambridge Organ Scholar, who is now at St. Andrew’s Southgate.

During my time as Director of Music and Expressive Arts at Kingsmead School we broadcast BBC School’s Radio programmes. The Kingsmead Singers were able to invite many professional artists with whom they performed at our concerts and recitals. Once again members of the public heard wonderful professional instrumental and vocal soloists in Oratorios - Elijah, Creation, Messiah, Britten’s Noyes Fludde and commissioned works The Sword of Gideon and Simon Eyre, by Douglas Coombes MBE, as well as Seven Songs Home by Sir Peter Maxwell Davies CH CBE and God Stepped Out by Dr. John Rutter CBE, Patron of Children’s International Voices Choirs. The international guitarist John Mills was a frequent guest artist as was Dr. Christopher Keyte Hon RAM. Now, in 2014 we have the excitement of inaugurating our 1st Annual Enfield Choral and Orchestral Festival. From the 3rd to 11th May, we will present almost all of our choirs, orchestras, chamber musicians plus many soloists who reside in Enfield. We hope our Enfield friends will be enthused by such a wide range of repertoire, celebrating young performers as well as those with much more experience. These excellent local performers really deserve your support! June and Christopher Festival DirectorS
