4-H SUMMER WORKSHOPS

4-H Summer Workshops are learning experiences offered by Extension staff and 4-H volunteers. Our programs are designed to provide engaging hands-on education for youth of all ages. A workshop is a great way for youth to make new friends, learn new skills or spark a new interest! Please take note of suggested age requirements when selecting classes. Youth do not have to be enrolled in 4-H to register for workshops. Projects made during classes can be entered in the Lincoln, Logan or McPherson County Fair!

BUILDING

BETTER BABYSITTERS

HOMEMADE

GRAPEVINE WREATH

May 29 | 9-11am | All ages | $5

Learn to make a homemade 12-inch wreath that can be decorated for any holiday or door. Youth will learn how to form vines into a wreath shape and what it takes to make it last. Participants should bring their own embellishments: ribbons, bow, pinecones or other similar-sized decorations.

WOOD BURNING CUTTING BOARDS

BASIC WORKSHOP

Youth will learn about the world of geocaching, an outdoor treasurehunting adventure that uses GPS enabled devices. Youth will also learn how to create an original cache and how to find them.

BEYOND THE NEEDLE-HAT DECORATING

Join us for a unique and creative hat painting class where you’ll craft your very own custom felt hat! We’ll provide all the necessary supplies including feathers, ribbons, fabrics and leather to help you bring your vision to life. Each participant will receive up to five pieces to decorate their hat. COOKING WITH WHEAT

Learn the importance of consuming whole wheat foods while learning how to make pasta, breadsticks, whole wheat bread and pretzels. Youth will make their lunch and have a loaf of whole wheat bread to take home.

BEGINNING CUPCAKE DECORATING

June 19 | 9-11am | Ages 8+ | $20

Learn basic cake decorating skills using buttercream frosting and beginning decorating techniques. Youth are encouraged to bring at least one-star tip and one line (writing) to the workshop. Each youth must bring 12 baked cupcakes ready for decorating.

SEWING W/PILLOWS (2-PART WORKSHOP)

June 23 & 30 | 9-11am | Ages 8-18 | $25

Beginning skills on a sewing machine will be covered. Each participant will make a pin cushion and a 4-4 patch pillow. Participants should bring a sewing machine, basic sewing notions including a black and white spool of thread and bobbin, two pieces of felt, any color and 1/3 yard of 2 contrasting woven fabrics for their pillow. A machine can be borrowed for an additional $10.

PERFORMANCE CAMP

Participants will learn about what it takes to maximize their performance while developing an understanding of nutrition, weight training and how to properly incorporate it all into their daily routine. Learn what macro and micronutrients are necessary to sustain energy, boost performance, preserve muscle and develop a plate around food choices.

FORESTRY WORKSHOP

Come explore the world of forestry. Learn about the parts of the tree and how they work together for a tree to survive. Youth will also learn about diseases and pests that can harm trees. Youth will have a finished cross section display, after the workshop. 4-H project entry *D320-006

SMART CENTS WORKSHOP

Youth will increase their ability to make informed decisions about financial health while strengthening their use of social and emotional skills. They will learn about their money personality, needs and wants, how to create smart goals and explore different careers or ways to make income in this engaging class.

This summer, let your imagination run wild in an exciting art adventure where animals and creativity come together! In this hands-on class, kids will create fun and colorful art projects inspired by the animal kingdom. From painting tiger stripes to building birdhouses, each week will bring a new animal and a new craft to explore. Along the way, they’ll learn interesting facts about the animals they’re creating, making it a fun mix of art and nature! Whether it’s drawing, sculpting, or painting, every child will leave with their own wild masterpieces and a love for animals!

Take an exciting journey around the world without leaving the classroom! In this fun and interactive class, kids will explore different countries, discovering unique languages, music, traditions and delicious foods from all corners of the globe. Each day, they’ll “travel” to a new country, learning how to say hello in different languages, dance to cool tunes, create art inspired by each culture and even try out tasty snacks from around the world! It’s a fun way for kids to expand their horizons and experience the rich diversity of our planet through hands-on activities and exciting adventures.

FIN-TASTIC ART ADVENTURE

Dive into a world of creativity and adventure in this fun and exciting art class! We’ll make amazing underwater art, from colorful fish to beautiful coral reefs. You’ll get to explore the ocean with your imagination, using paints, markers and fun materials to create your very own sea-inspired masterpieces. Come and let your creativity swim free as we discover all the wonders under the sea!

Unleash your creativity and curiosity in this exciting class where art and animals come together! Students will dive deep into the fascinating world of wildlife, researching animals from all over the planet and using what they learn to create stunning art projects. Whether it’s sculpting an elephant from clay, painting a vibrant bird or designing a detailed animal mask, each project will help bring animal stories to life. Through hands-on crafts and research, students will explore animal habitats, behaviors and conservation efforts while developing their artistic skills. It’s a perfect blend of creativity and learning for young animal lovers!

Are you ready to get your passport stamped without leaving the classroom? In this dynamic class, students will explore the unique cultures of different countries through food, language, music, art and more. Each day, we’ll virtually travel to a new country, tasting traditional dishes, learning basic phrases in different languages, discovering local music and art, and even taking virtual field trips to famous landmarks and natural wonders. It’s a fun and interactive way to immerse in the world’s diversity, expand global knowledge and gain a deeper appreciation for cultures across the globe. The adventure awaits!

Get ready to have a *balloon-tastic* time this summer! In this fun-filled class, kids will learn how to twist and shape balloons into all kinds of cool animals and creations. From playful dogs to soaring butterflies, your little artist will get to make their very own balloon pets and creatures! With easy-to-follow instructions, they’ll discover how to turn simple balloons into colorful works of art. Whether it’s for a party or just for fun, this class will let their creativity *pop*! Latex balloons will be used.

MATH ADVENTURES: EXPLORING FUN WITH NUMBERS

This summer class makes math exciting and accessible for elementary students! Through engaging games, hands-on activities and interactive lessons, students will develop a solid understanding of foundational math concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions and basic geometry. By the end of the course, students will have enhanced their problem-solving skills and confidence in math. Activities include math scavenger hunts, interactive math puzzles and group challenges designed to make learning enjoyable while reinforcing important math skills. This class fosters teamwork, critical thinking and a love for learning through math.

Cribbage is a classic card game that combines skill, strategy and luck. You will learn: The basic rules and setup of the game; How to deal, play and score hands; Key strategies and; How to score and peg points through handson practice. Beginners as well as experienced players are welcome!

GIRL POWER AUTO CLINIC

Bring your girl power and get ready to learn about automotive maintenance and inspections. We will learn to inspect your fluids, filters, change a tire with the tools provided and perform an oil change. Wear clothes to get dirty. Bring your own car if you wish. This class is made to be very informative without stinky boys!

DIGITAL ANIMATION CAMP

Get ready to take your animation skills to the next level!

Animation 2.0 builds on the basic approaches and concepts from our other animation offerings!

In this camp, we will continue building on animation as a versatile and nearly limitless way to express yourself! This camp will incorporate digital animation in procreate and encompass intermediate level animation methods and theories focusing on character animation!

Students 13-15 years need to have participated in a Calibraska animation offering in the past. Open to college age and older students as well!

In this fun, hands-on class, students will learn about animation history, principles and concepts, then create our own animations!

We will animate paper, clay and more to learn the principles of animation and other techniques to make something come to life!

Students who take this class will learn theories that apply to any animation technique. No animation or drawing experience necessary, but a spirit of exploration is required!

Students who may want to participate in our animation afternoon, 2.0 or 3.0 classes will need to take this class first.

ART GAMES

In this class we will play games incorporating play and art in unique ways! Each Student will learn a fun game to play beyond the class that stimulates creativity and helps build their creativity and their skills in drawing, creative thinking and more!

We will utilize the Calibraska ‘stash’ of art materials ranging from colored pencils, markers, clay and animation goodies to allow students to experiment and try new things! Many of these activities were developed by our founder over her 20+ years teaching art, animation and media.

ANIMATION FAMILY TIME

We’ve created a series of special single session workshops for younger creatives to learn basic animation concepts and see their creations come to life!

On Tuesdays learn about animation history and make animation strips to use in our special zoetrope. Thursdays will build on Tuesday and give students the chance to make flipbooks they get to take home with them.

*Parents/Guardians are welcome to register for these workshops.

MUSIC VIDEO CAMP

Unleash your inner artist and rockstar at our music video summer camp!

Learn how to make music videos using techniques from live action and animation!

Participants will have the opportunity to learn the basics of animation and video production, while exploring all the different ways to bring image and sound together! No prior experience necessary.

We are a youth swim club that focuses on teaching and increasing the skill level of swimmers. Coaches are experienced swimmers and teachers who work with small groups to build skill, strength, stamina and confidence for all youth involved. Swimmer skill levels vary from beginner to competitive swimmers who compete at the state and regional levels. Swim club is flexible for families who are involved with many activities. We also offer fall/winter/spring swim clinics on Saturday mornings.
