Welcome I punched “rebuild” into the Stuff search engine today; it wasn’t a pretty sight.

‘Christchurch rebuild: a city stalled, ‘Christchurch rebuild hampered by government’, ‘Rebuild friction rises to surface’ and ‘Is the sun setting on the rebuild?’ were my top options. Where did it all go wrong? It was all trucking along nicely… at least that’s what I thought. So when I was asked recently, ‘as editor of Canterbury Rebuild Magazine, how do you think the rebuild is going?’ my reply was ‘well, the numbers are looking good…’ much to the shock of the enquirer. And I stand by that. Insurers involved in the Canterbury residential rebuild have settled almost 60 percent of all earthquake out of scope and over cap dwelling claims.

The residential red zone – an area four times the size of Hagley Park – involved more than 7300 flat land properties. More than half of these homes have been removed and the vast majority of former homeowners have accepted the Crown’s offer. And more than 53,000 home repairs have been completed under the EQC-managed Canterbury Home Repair Programme with Fletcher EQR – that’s two-thirds of the damaged homes EQC is responsible for. While some may accuse me of sticking my head in the sand, or the liquefaction so to speak, I choose to call it optimism. There’s certainly positive stories out there and I for one intend to continue hunting them out.

In November 2012 the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) introduced a standard so that luminaires (or light fittings) can be “Energy Star” rated. ANZ Northlands features a 24/7 Smart ATM, which accepts deposits and cheques and an internet kiosk for customers to use whenever they’re in the branch. The smart technology is being actively rolled out across all the bank’s sites, but most importantly, it is upgradeable, allowing for additional functionality going forward.

The mall location also offers several private meeting spaces and increased hours, including late nights and weekends. “It’s important for a bank to

With a strong team of 12, the Northlands ANZ team is friendly and positive. “You can teach people banking, but it’s harder to teach a friendly, positive attitude and genuine desire to help so that’s what we look for when we’re recruiting new team members.”
