GREAT PEOPLE MAKE FAVORITE PLACES
BCC has created an actionable statement that helps define our philosophy known as The Simple Truth: Great People Make Favorite Places. Below is a small sample of staff members who are helping to make BCC your favorite place.
Staff Member of the Month
AUGUST
Dennis Kircher, Facilities Technician
In his three years at BCC, Dennis has made remarkable contributions to our facilities. His skill and attention to detail are evident throughout the recent Board Room renovation—from the precise crown molding adjustments to the seamless electrical and IT wiring within the conference table. Dennis’ craftsmanship, professionalism, and dedication are appreciated by all. He is a joy to work with, always willing to share his knowledge, and consistently puts BCC first. Next time you see Dennis, don’t hesitate to ask him about the projects he’s currently working on!
You've probably seen Dennis' handiwork around the Club!

Thank you!
As the holiday season approaches, the Board of Governors invites members to support the annual Staff Holiday Fund, a cherished tradition that expresses gratitude to the team whose dedication makes Baltimore Country Club special. Last year, over 1,200 families participated, reaching a 93.8% participation rate—the Club’s highest—with contributions from under $200 to over $1,000 (average $275), distributed among staff based on tenure and role, excluding the GM/COO.
NEW THIS YEAR
Contributions will be collected electronically, except for members age 75+, who will receive a physical mailing. If no action is taken by Friday, November 21, a $250 (Resident) or $150 (Non-Resident) contribution will be automatically applied per household Members may email holidayfund@bcc1898.com by Monday, December 1 for questions or to find out your 2024 contribution.
Dennis built and Nandy painted an Old Bay themed bar for our End of Summer Party, which was then raffled off at the event.
Last year, Dennis built the paddle court shed and deck at Roland Park.
Dennis built the new Five Farms Fitness Center cabinet with trash and towel receptacles.
The Five Farms Men's Fitness Locker Room renovation included new towel shelving and towel receptacles built by Dennis.

Connor Flach captured his first Gentlemen’s Overall Club Championship, outlasting an exceptional opponent, Michael Mulieri, through 39 holes of match play. In the Senior Division, Bob Kaestner staged an incredible comeback from three down to win his fifth Club Championship in 19 holes.

Finally, in the Junior Club Championship, Mia Compton and Andrew Klein celebrated their first victories, beginning their own BCC Championship journeys.

THE CADDIE CORNER
OUR NUMBERS ARE
GROWING!
Last year at this time, we shared some numbers about our Caddie Program and the fantastic support from the membership. As of September 30, 2025, thanks to your ongoing support, those numbers have increased. At the time of writing this article, it’s October, and there are still a few weeks to reach our goal for the 2025 season. Fingers crossed.
As you may recall from the May edition of Lifestyle, we introduced the “Take a Caddie, Change a Life” Bag Tag Program and shared the final results from the 2024 Caddie Season. A total of 387 unique members took a caddie or forecaddie, resulting in 3,858 caddie and forecaddie rounds. For the 2025 season, our goal is to reach 500 unique participating members and 5,000 total caddie and forecaddie rounds.
2024 vs 2025 Caddie Rounds
As of September 30, 2025
We will report our final numbers for the 2025 season in December, and based on the numbers through September 30, we will be close to reaching our goal! But either way, as mentioned earlier, these numbers do not happen without your continued support and word of mouth amongst your fellow members.
Sincerely,
Greg Jones Professional Emeritus
FALL AERATION
By Justin Gladhill, West Course Superintendent
With the busy golf calendar reaching its conclusion and the off-season approaching, the East and West courses will be closed for alternating weeks to allow the Grounds Team to perform our annual fall aeration. The focus will be on greens and tees, with fairways scheduled for December.
Each course will use a combination of techniques to target different depths of the rootzone and incorporate clean sand, improving drainage and allowing for firmer conditions in-season.
CORE AERATION
We will be core aerating greens with 3/8-inch to ½-inch tines. This process removes small plugs of soil and organic matter from the surface, which are then backfilled with sand. The result is improved air and water movement within the rootzone and a healthier growing environment for turf.
DEEP-TINE AERATION
The Grounds Team will also perform deep-tine aeration on greens and tees at an 8 to 10-inch depth. This penetrates much deeper than traditional aeration, relieving soil compaction and enhancing root development in the long term.
VERTICAL MOWING
To address the uppermost layer of the turf, we will vertically mow the greens. This process removes excess organic matter (thatch) near the surface, improving firmness, smoothness, and consistency of ball roll.
NOVEMBER COURSE CLOSURES
3 East Closed (Private Event); West Open
4-7 East Closed (Green Aeration); West Open
10 East Closed (Aeration Rain Date); West Open
DRYJECT SAND INJECTION
Finally, the East tees will be DryJected, a technique that uses a pressurized stream of water to inject sand directly into the playing surface without removing cores. The machine draws water from our irrigation system to deliver sand deep into the profile, creating instant channels for air, water, and nutrient movement.
17-18 East Open; West Closed (Deep-Tine Aeration)
24 East Open; West Closed

GET TO KNOW GAVIN LEON
Meet Gavin Leon, a dedicated racquets professional whose passion for sports and community shines through both on and off the court. Originally from Sydney, Australia, Gavin’s journey in the world of tennis brought him to the United States in 2009, where he played Division 1 collegiate tennis at Saint Mary’s College of California in the East Bay, San Francisco.
After his successful college playing career, Gavin continued at Saint Mary’s, this time lending his experience as a coach while earning his master’s degree in kinesiology with a concentration in sports management. It was during this formative time that Gavin was introduced to the club and hospitality industry through work at a neighborhood club, setting the stage for his future career.
Before joining Baltimore Country Club in June 2021, Gavin served as the Director of Racquets at Marin Country Club in North Bay, San Francisco. Since arriving at BCC, he has brought new energy and vision to the racquets programs, fostering a sense of camaraderie and continual growth within the community.
Away from the Club, Gavin is a devoted family man. He and his wife Taylor are the proud parents of three children: Stevie
(6), Lincoln (2), and Noel (3 months). In his downtime, Gavin enjoys the excitement of all racquet sports, with a recent special interest in padel. He’s often found grilling, spending quality time with his family, enjoying sports, and attending social gatherings. Gavin’s warmth, leadership, appetite for education and international experience make him a valued presence in the Club community. Whether you catch him out on court or around the Club, he’s always happy to chat and share his love for sport and camaraderie.
