At BCC, we are proud to report that our average tenure is more than double that—4.24 years. This impressive statistic reflects the dedication of our staff and the strength of our workplace culture. Exceptional Leadership

Simple Truth Award

When Caroline learned that one of her longtime clients, a BCC member, had unexpectedly lost their beloved family dog, she went above and beyond to provide comfort during a difficult time. With the help of our Director of Member Experience, Abby, Caroline arranged for a beautifully framed watercolor portrait of the dog to be gifted to the family—a touching gesture made all the more remarkable by the fact that Caroline organized it all during her very first week at BCC.

Kevin Keller, Executive Sous Chef

Kevin joined the BCC team eight years ago and has been instrumental in shaping the Club's Culinary Program into what it is today. Throughout his journey, Kevin also earned his Certified Executive Chef (CEC) designation—an impressive accomplishment that speaks to his dedication and drive. Behind Kevin's calm and steady presence lies a deeply passionate culinarian who is committed to his craft. He leads with integrity, teaches with care, and inspires those around him every day. Our Executive Chef Richard Jallet notes that Kevin has been one of the best Executive Sous Chefs he's ever had the pleasure of working with. Kevin’s leadership continues to elevate our Culinary Team, and this award is a true testament to his excellence.

After discovering a young member’s genuine excitement for our weekly e-blasts, Jess took it upon herself to make their day extra special. With thoughtfulness and creativity, she added a heartwarming “#1 Reader” shoutout in a recent email and arranged a surprise gift for the member to pick up at the Five Farms Front Desk—an unexpected gesture that brought big smiles and made one of our littlest readers feel truly seen. Well done, Jess—and a big 'thank you' to all our dedicated readers!

A SPLASH OF ART

BCC’s Pool Complex has a fresh new look this summer, thanks to the incredible talent of Nandy Dhoska, our longtime Facilities Technician and in-house painter. Nandy, who has been part of the BCC team for over 13 years, is well known for his steady hand and artistic precision—especially when handpainting the names on our tournament boards. But his latest project has truly made a splash.

The pool mural, completed in May 2025, was a year-long labor of love. Nandy began work on the mural in 2024, dedicating countless hours to bringing the vibrant scene to life. The concept design was created by Aquatics Director Vince Posterli and Graphic Designer Jess Noffsinger, and Nandy enhanced it with stunning detail and vibrant artistry that reflects his professional background. Before his time at BCC, Nandy worked as an illustrator for a French publishing company in Paris. His work has been featured in galleries and still graces the shelves of tourist shops across Paris.

The mural not only adds energy and charm to the Pool Complex—it also includes the new BCC Barracudas swim team logo, seamlessly woven into the artwork. It’s a colorful and creative celebration of our community and a testament to the incredible talent we have right here at the Club.

A STAR-SPANGLED CELEBRATION

Summer is here, and our Events Team is hard at work finalizing the details for our annual Independence Day Celebration—featuring, for the first time ever, the chance to throw a pie at the General Manager!

In recent years, the cost of hosting this event has risen significantly. To manage this, the Club took two steps: we increased the portion of membership dues allocated to support the event and adjusted ticket prices. While these changes helped offset expenses, we did see a slight dip in attendance—something we hope to change this year.

As our signature event, we want as many members as possible to join in the celebration. So, we're reducing ticket prices slightly this year, aiming to welcome roughly 200 more members than we did last year. This will keep the event’s overall budget impact the same, while allowing more of our community to take part in this beloved tradition.

We can’t wait to celebrate with you—decked out in red, white, and blue!

WELLNESS & NUTRITION

This summer, start by slowing down and finding your center with a few simple yoga poses designed to restore calm and balance. Then, nourish your body with a fresh, seasonal meal like Grilled Shrimp Kabobs—packed with local produce and bold flavor—to fuel your day the healthy way.

FIND YOUR INNER CALM WITH YOGA

Summer is a season of light, warmth, and vibrant energy. With longer days often filled with travel, activities, and social events, it’s easy to feel like there’s just too much going on. Amid the excitement, it’s important to find moments of stillness and balance. Yoga offers a gentle way to counter the heat and fast pace of summer, helping you feel more grounded, relaxed, and centered. Here are five simple yoga poses you can practice anytime to restore calm and reduce stress:

CHILD'S POSE

Kneel on the mat, then sit back with the front part of your feet on the mat. Stretch your arms out in front, lower your forehead to the ground (or a block), and breathe deeply. Hold for 5 to 10 breaths.

DEEP BREATHING

Sit comfortably with your eyes closed. Inhale deeply through your nose (4 seconds), hold (4 seconds), exhale slowly through your mouth (6 seconds), and hold again (4 seconds). Repeat several times.

SEATED FORWARD FOLD

Sit with legs extended forward. Inhale, lengthen your spine and lift your arms. Exhale, fold forward, reaching for your shins or toes. Hold for 5 to 10 breaths.

LEGS

UP THE WALL POSE

Lie on your back with your legs straight up against a wall. Place a thin pillow under your pelvis and head. Breathe deeply feeling the calmness spread through your body. Stay for 10 to 15 minutes.

MOUNTAIN POSE

Stand tall with feet hip-width apart. Engage your core, lengthen your spine, and breathe deeply. Notice the sensations in your feet and the way this simple pose can help you feel grounded and centered.

June in Maryland is a fantastic time to enjoy the bounty of fresh, local produce. Eating in-season fruits and vegetables isn’t just a seasonal pleasure—it’s one of the healthiest ways to nourish your body while supporting local farmers and growers. When produce is harvested at its peak, it’s bursting with flavor and packed with nutrients.

This month, keep an eye out for:

Strawberries

Raspberries

Blueberries Cherries Watermelon Zucchini

Squash Beets

Whether you’re shopping at a local market or harvesting from your own garden, these ingredients offer endless possibilities for fresh summer meals.

Grilled Shrimp Kabobs

If you’re looking for a light and satisfying dinner that checks off your daily fruit and veggie goals, these kabobs are a perfect choice. Scan the QR code for the recipe.

MEET SAMANTHA STERNER

Please join us in welcoming Reformer Pilates Instructor Samantha Sterner to the Fitness & Wellness Team!

After completing her training in California, Samantha returned to her hometown of Baltimore to work with clients and continue growing as an instructor. She’s especially excited about the ongoing learning and personal development that Pilates inspires, and loves helping others feel strong, confident, and connected in their bodies.

TRAINING PHILOSOPHY

EXPERIENCE

Samantha’s lifelong passion for movement began with a childhood filled with sports and an active lifestyle. This early foundation helped her develop a deep appreciation for the connection between a healthy mind and body. Driven to share that passion, she completed a 500-hour comprehensive Pilates training through BASI, where she was drawn to the method’s

MOVES OF THE MONTH

Samantha Sterner, Reformer Pilates Instructor

REFORMER PILATES EXERCISES

From targeted moves like rhomboid preps and single-arm rows with twists to dynamic jump board and tramp routines, each exercise focuses on engaging the core, refining movement control, and boosting stamina. With options to progress and modify, these workouts are suitable for all levels and promote balanced, full-body conditioning.

I love taking a holistic approach to fitness that emphasizes the connection between mind and body. Through intentional movement, I help clients improve posture, restore energy, and cultivate both physical and mental strength for lasting well-being. I guide others to move with purpose, breathe with intention, and tap into the kind of strength that doesn’t just build muscles—but transforms the mindset and improves everyday movement.

RHOMBOID PREP

This is a great exercise to improve posture and alleviate rounded shoulders. Strong rhomboids help pull the shoulder blades back and down, promoting proper shoulder and spine alignment.

A compound movement engaging the lats and core. Adding torso rotation deepens the abdominal engagement, and performing it in a kneeling position further challenges balance and core stability.

SINGLE LEG PARALLEL ON TRAMP

A dynamic balance and strength move performed on the trampoline that targets leg muscles individually. Progressions like alternating legs and ski jumps with hip rotation add variety and increase coordination.

JUMP BOARD VARIATIONS

Jumping from wide to narrow stances or into an open V-shape increases challenge through coordination and spatial awareness. These patterns enhance leg power and control.

SINGLE ARM NARROW ROWS WITH TWIST

BREAK BARRIERS. BUILD YOUR GAME.

We invite you to elevate your game with a curated lineup of golf programs designed for players who value progress, strategy, and a modern approach to learning. Whether you're newer to the game or working toward breaking personal scoring barriers, our offerings—including Operation 36, Breaking 100, Breaking 90, and Breaking 80—will meet you where you are and guide you to your next milestone. Operation 36 isn’t just for beginners; it’s for any golfer ready to sharpen scoring skills and consistently shoot par (or better) from appropriate yardages. Through structured plans, small-group camaraderie, and expert on-course coaching, you’ll experience practice that translates into real results.

For players who want clear direction and meaningful improvement, this season’s classes offer a powerful roadmap. Operation 36 builds scoring ability at every level, while the Breaking Series gives you the tools and strategies to finally reach your goals. Experience a smarter, more structured path to better golf—designed with your lifestyle in mind.

With the arrival of summer comes increased availability of our youth caddies. We appreciate all the support that has been given to our Caddie Program this season and, of course, over the years. In May, we provided our caddies with the Caddie Evaluation Card, which we instructed them to give to their players as they introduced themselves. This helps you learn their name, caddie level (B, A, or Honor), as well as the duties they are responsible for based on their level. We ask that upon completing the round, you drop the evaluation portion of the card in the boxes located at the 18th hole of each course as you walk back to the clubhouse. You can give them the payment portion of the card, and they will present it to Brett Keller, our Caddie Manager, for payment. You may also pay them in cash if you prefer.

We appreciate your honest feedback regarding your experience and want to ensure that the caddies receive input to help them improve. Below, are samples of each Caddie Card along with the duties they are being rated on. Again, thank you for your support in taking our caddies, especially our youth caddies, as they grow and learn life skills in their formative years.

THE CADDIE CORNER

Finally, we have a few new youth caddies who have been added to the Member Mentor program and will need mentors. If you are interested in what is required to be a mentor to a youth caddie, please feel free to reach out to me at gjones@bcc1898.com.

Sincerely,

GREENKEEPER’S UPDATE

We're off to a good start this spring, as the weather is always at the forefront of how the golf course looks and plays. By late April, temperatures were warming, the grass was starting to grow, and precipitation remained on the dry side as we continued drought-like conditions. In fact, it’s been so dry that there have been several weather warnings related to high winds combined with low humidity, which have been the cause of wildfires throughout the region. If it seems like it’s been especially windy this time of year, you are not alone.

The average hourly wind speed in Baltimore experiences significant seasonal variation over the course of the year. The windier part of the year lasts 6.6 months, from October 21 to May 9, with average wind speeds of more than 8.6 miles per hour. March is the windiest month of the year in Baltimore, with an average hourly wind speed of 10.6 miles per hour. The calmer time of year lasts for 5.4 months, from May 9 to October 21. The calmest month of the year in Baltimore is July, with an average hourly wind speed of 6.7 miles per hour.

If you have visited the courses, you will note the amount of sod that has been laid this spring. Many of these areas are subject to high cart and maintenance traffic, and as such, they need to be sodded annually with tall fescue sod. You may notice a black rubber product in various areas. These are called raqmatz are were installed over the sod, allowing the grass to grow through the mat and protect the crown of the plant. Past utilization has shown this approach to be very successful, helping to ensure the turf’s survival throughout the season.

From standout performances in national championships to strong showings in state-level competitions, BCC’s Squash Program is proudly representing the Club at every level of the game.
