GREAT PEOPLE MAKE FAVORITE PLACES
BCC has created an actionable statement that helps define our philosophy known as The Simple Truth: Great People Make Favorite Places. Below is a small sample of staff members who are helping to make BCC your favorite place.
Staff Member of the Month
MARCH 2025
Tyler Bielatowicz, Lead Bartender
Since joining Baltimore Country Club in March 2023, Tyler has become a vital part of our Food & Beverage Team, earning a well-deserved promotion to Lead Bartender last fall. He plays a key role in leading banquet bar setups and training temporary bartenders. Tyler has overseen bar operations for several squash and racquets events at Roland Park, including the U.S. Squash National Doubles Championship back in March. Always positive and professional, Tyler was recognized by our Racquets Team for his hard work. We are lucky to have Tyler on the BCC Team!
APRIL 2025
Bennett Wisner, Assistant Golf Professional
Bennett joined our Golf Operations Team in late summer 2024, following his time as a professional golfer. Since day one, Bennett has consistently stepped up to support every aspect of the operation and truly embodies what it means to be a team player. His upbeat and welcoming demeanor creates a positive experience for members and guests every day. We’re proud to recognize Bennett’s hard work, dedication, and outstanding contributions with this well-deserved honor!
MAY 2025
Dezmon Gray, Golf Fitness Performance Specialist & Personal Coach
Since joining the team late last year, Dezmon has been instrumental in growing our Golf Fitness Performance program. His golf background and passion help members better understand how body movement impacts their swing and overall performance. In April, Dezmon partnered with Director of Instruction Cathy Kim to host a successful Golf Fitness Open House that drew 23 attendees where his presentation was a standout and impressed all who attended. He has also rapidly expanded his Personal Training revenue and client roster, regularly supports our Golf Instructional Team, and recently led a well-received BCC YOUniversity session. Members constantly praise his energy and impact—one even stopped by just to say how much “heart” he has. Dezmon is a valued member of the BCC Team, and we’re excited to see how our Golf Fitness Performance program continues to thrive under his leadership.
Exceptional Leadership
Gen Braxton, Assistant Pastry Chef
Gen stepped up as Interim Pastry Chef during a time of transition and led the Pastry Team with confidence, grace, and reliability. She didn’t miss a beat, keeping everything on track with her calm demeanor and can-do spirit. Just three years ago, Gen began her journey at BCC with limited culinary experience—and since then, she has seized every opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. Her passion, commitment, and drive to improve have made her an indispensable member of our team and a pleasure to mentor.

ACUPUNCTURE: WHAT’S THE POINT?
By Heather Johnstone, Acupuncturist
When was the last time you took 60 minutes to relax in a quiet room and let your thoughts drift without interruption? Sounds heavenly, doesn’t it? Now, what if I told you that adding a few very fine, small acupuncture needles to this scenario could offer benefits you might not be aware of?
Acupuncture can promote improved health for the body and mind, leading to a happier, healthier life. Keep reading to discover how acupuncture can benefit you.
▶ Relieve Pain
Many come to acupuncture for pain relief. Through its anti-inflammatory effects, it can help relieve the discomfort associated with arthritis, migraines, back pain, and sports injuries
▶ Relieve Stress
Acupuncture has been shown to calm the stress response by activating the parasympathetic system. The kids are yelling, the dog needs a walk, and emails are waiting to be answered. Who doesn’t experience stress in our fast-paced world? Acupuncture is a respite
▶ Improve Sleep Quality
By encouraging relaxation and reducing stress, acupuncture can improve sleep quality and nix insomnia. It can help to regulate your body’s circadian rhythm, allowing you to wake up refreshed and well-rested
▶ Boost Energy
Acupuncture has been shown to increase energy by stimulating your body’s very own healing mechanisms. A healthier body is a more energetic body, which will allow you to pursue more of the activities you love
▶ Increase Cognitive Function
Mental clarity and cognitive function are enhanced via acupuncture through the mechanisms of stimulating the nervous system, releasing endorphins, and regulating neurotransmitters. This allows for focused thinking, balanced moods, and a more productive day
▶ Boost Immune System
Everyone wants a strong immune system—and that’s where acupuncture comes in. Studies have shown that acupuncture can stimulate the production of T cells (our body’s defense against infections). It also reduces stress and inflammation throughout the body, both of which can negatively affect your immune system
SESSION FEE
60 minutes - $90
Availability: Mondays & Wednesdays from 9:00am to 2:00pm (Appointments required)
Living your best life is just a trip to the Well-being Center away. If you would like to further discuss what acupuncture can do for you or would like to book an appointment, please contact me at hjohnstone@bcc1898.com.
ACL PREVENTATIVE TRAINING PROGRAM
with Caroline Fitzsimmons, Personal Coach
Sports injuries fall into two categories: acute and overuse. Acute injuries happen suddenly, often due to a misstep or collision, and include sprains, ACL tears, and fractures. Overuse injuries develop gradually from repetitive motions that strain the body over time.
Proper technique and conditioning are key to preventing both types of injuries—especially for teens. Girls, in particular, are at greater risk of ACL tears during certain phases of their menstrual cycle, making prevention strategies even more important.

her professional fitness journey in 2022, while training and teaching group fitness at Towson University, where she also worked with the university’s athletic nutrition department to help educate and fuel Division I athletes.
Kennedy has worked with a diverse range of clients, including youth athletes from middle to high school, focusing on developing not only their athletic performance but also their confidence and character as young individuals. She has also combined her love of Pilates, resistance training, and nutrition to guide adults of all ages toward their personal best.

THE CADDIE CORNER
EVANS SCHOLAR GENTLEMEN'S GUEST DAY
On July 17, 2025, we proudly hosted our 3rd annual Evans Scholar Gentlemen’s Guest Day, and it was a truly fantastic event. Eighty members and guests enjoyed lunch, played golf on our championship East Course, and concluded the day with a delicious dinner and a memorable celebration honoring our Evans Scholars.
More than 40 caddies, including both caddies and forecaddies, supported each two-person team on the course. To commemorate the occasion, all participants received Evans Foundation-branded water bottles, umbrellas, and tote bags.
The evening featured heartfelt stories from current and former Evans Scholars. Alumni Charlie White and Varada Maulkhin shared their experiences, along with Mr. Frank Polizzi, a University of Illinois Evans Scholar who graduated over 50 years ago. Mr. Polizzi reflected on his early days carrying heavy, all-leather Burton golf bags and earning $5 a round. What resonated most was his reminder that giving comes in many forms— whether through financial support or by mentoring and showing up for young people during their most important years.
Mr. Polizzi’s passion for giving back extends well beyond Evans. He is actively involved with the First Tee of Philadelphia, where he helps train and mentor young caddies. He and his wife have also been instrumental supporters of the University of Illinois Evans Scholarship Houses, contributing generously over the years to help ensure that future generations of scholars have a place to thrive both personally and academically.
The evening culminated in a spirited live auction featuring exclusive trips and oneof-a-kind experiences. With the combined support from auction bids and a portion of each team’s entry fee, we proudly raised an impressive $32,900 for the Evans Scholars Foundation. This remarkable contribution reflects the generosity, camaraderie, and shared commitment of our membership—an achievement we’re proud to celebrate.
If you are interested in getting more involved, whether financially or by mentoring and supporting BCC's Caddie Program, please reach out to a member of the Caddie Committee. Every contribution makes a difference.

GREENKEEPER’S UPDATE
It has been over 10 years since the East Course fairways and five years since the West Course fairways were regrassed with creeping bentgrass. Despite this, viable perennial ryegrass seeds remain in the soil. These ryegrass patches create a noticeable and patchy appearance on the fairways due to differences in color and growth patterns between the two grass species.
To address this issue, we have launched a selective herbicide program targeting the removal of perennial ryegrass clumps to reestablish a uniform stand of creeping bentgrass on the East Course fairways. We have made two applications of the selective herbicide called Manuscript twice, on May 27 and June 11, respectively, combined with a surfactant and a fertilizer to encourage growth and creeping of the 007 bentgrass.
As you can see by the photos, many of the clumps have turned brown following the treatments. Now comes the hard part, patience, as these areas will gradually fill in with bentgrass. While seeding is an option two weeks after the final herbicide applications, we are entering the time of year when recovery from seed is less than ideal, since summer is the most challenging season to grow cool-season grass from seed. Divot recovery with the seed can take weeks to months to heal, as evidenced by a study our team completed last season on the East Course fairways, where the normal recovery time is eight weeks.
We continue to adjust our fertilizer programs on the East fairways to encourage lateral growth to support a speedy recovery. Please note that additional applications of the Manuscript may be necessary, yet herbicide treatments were put on hold in June due to record high temperatures. Applications of herbicides during periods of high heat and plant stress could injure the 007 bentgrass.

GET TO KNOW YOUR PRO:
ALYSSA SOLLENBERGER
As many of you know, I am the Head Racquets Professional here at BCC. I’ve been in this role for a little over a year and a half now, and it has been an incredible experience where I’ve learned so much. Both on and off the courts, here are some things about me you may or may not know to help you get to know me a little better.
Before joining BCC, I served as the Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach at Alvernia University, a Division III University in my hometown of Reading, PA. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Life Science and a Master’s degree in Business Administration. Additionally, I have USPTA (tennis), PTR (tennis), PPTR (paddle tennis), PPR (pickleball), and US Squash Level 1 certifications. I also played Division I tennis at West Point (Army), competing in both singles and doubles.
One of the things I love most about racquet sports is the personal, head-to-head nature of the games—whether it’s one-on-one or doubles. I enjoy the challenge of reading my
opponents, learning their strengths and weaknesses, and adjusting my strategy as I play.
A fun fact about me is that, in addition to working very hard on my tennis game growing up, I was also a classical violinist for 10 years and played in the Reading Junior Symphony Orchestra, as well as my local high school and district orchestras. I later taught myself how to play guitar, and I still enjoy playing guitar to unwind.
Outside of racquet sports, I’m a passionate fitness enthusiast. If I’m not at BCC, chances are you’ll find me at the gym lifting weights. I also love spending time in nature—whether it’s hiking off the grid in the mountains, walking through the woods, relaxing by the ocean, or exploring anywhere with beautiful scenery. And of course, I still love getting out and playing the racquet sports we teach.
