Ashburn Classics News The ASHBURN CLASSICS club met at The Lakes in Ashburn Village on October 13, 2007. Peggy Chapman, president, welcomed everyone and acknowledged newcomers. We had two new ladies attend the meeting with a total of 35 people in attendance. We always welcome and encourage everyone 50 and over to attend our meetings. If you are new to the area, this is a great way to meet others. Peggy began the meeting by reading a humorous message about GRANDPARENTS. Everyone knows if you are a member of the “Classics”, you are undoubtedly a grandparent, right? Wrong! We do have a few members who are not. A proposal had been made to amend the Club’s bylaws whereby the duties of the Member at Large and Membership officers would be defined in the bylaws. The amendment had Board approval and was voted upon by the members. It was accepted as presented. The Nominating Committee announced a slate of officers which would be voted on at the November membership meeting. Our guest speaker was Madeline Lynn. Ms. Lynn works with OSHER Lifelong Learning Institute, George Mason University. OSHER is new in Loudoun County, and the school wants everyone to know of the various programs which they offer. A few of the Ashburn Classics have attended, or are attending, courses offered by OSHER and speak very favorably of the program. The classes offered to older adults are lecture-style and do not have homework or tests. Most seniors today are quite active, volunteering in the community, traveling, and taking care of grandchildren or parents, but want continuing education programs in which to participate. OSHER is a wonderful way to do so.

be given a chance to ask questions and get honest answers regarding car maintenance. At our November meeting, we will be collecting canned goods and other staples which will be taken to the Holiday Coalition. Please remember to bring an item to the meeting. Boxes will be available for your donation. Our final meeting for the year will be a Christmas Brunch. The brunch will be held December 8 at the Holiday Inn - Dulles (Highway 28 South). We will have special entertainment from the Stone Bridge High School Jazz Choir. For those who have not signed up already, you can do so at our November meeting. However, please be prepared to pay for the brunch which is $28.50 per person. This is always a very special event for the Ashburn Classics and looked forward to by everyone. If you have questions or concerns about any event, please contact Pam Halston, Events Chair, 703-7717041, or let me know. My phone number is 703-7233056. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have. It is not too late to order a polo shirt with Ashburn Classics printed on it. If you are interested in a shirt, please let me know. Al Graff will be happy to order one for you. This is a good way the Ashburn Classics can promote the Club. That is all for this month. REMEMBER – If you miss a meeting, we miss you! On behalf of the Board, we hope ALL of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Peggy Chapman, President Ashburn Classics

Our next meeting will be held at the Ashburn Library on November 10 starting at 10:30am. Our guest speaker with be a representative from ASHBURN AUTO SERVICES in Ashburn Village.
