This workshop will consist of a short presentation describing the principles of performing a preventative maintenance inspection on ultrasound systems. The presentation will briefly describe the different imaging modes and presets associated with ultrasound systems. At the conclusion of the presentation, each participant will get hands-on training on a variety of systems on the correct procedures to perform an OEM-compliant PM.

Noninvasive blood pressure measurement is arguably the most common and routine vital signs assessment performed in hospitals. In contrast, direct arterial pressure monitoring is standard in operating rooms and critical care settings. Yet despite measuring the same parameter, these two methods often yield significantly different systolic and diastolic values. This session will explore the physiological and technical factors underlying these discrepancies, equipping biomeds with a deeper understanding to support accurate monitoring and informed clinical communication.

Automated Cleaning and HighLevel Disinfection Devices and HTM Management

Diagnostic ultrasound transducers used for various clinical applications are required to be cleaned and high-level disinfected (HLD) after each use. To address the workflow of this process, several automated cleaning and high-level probe disinfecting devices have been developed and introduced into the hospital, accelerated to some degree by the COVID pandemic. These devices have become a source of frustration for many HTM professionals who are often charged with their technical management, including installation, acceptance testing, preventative maintenance, and, in some cases, repair, yet do not receive much support from the OEMs who make the devices. This session will review the background and standards for these devices.

This class is structured for students needing guidance with the start of their career. This class will discuss how to balance time management, further education in a clinical setting, professional development, and prioritizing work orders. As well as preparing for on-call rotations, having proper resources, and realistic problem-solving. This class will support new technicians with social skills and common workplace expectations. Understanding how to schedule maintenance and repairs with the customer allows for less interference with patient care and helps establish a foundation for documentation, using different types of test equipment and confidence with the unknown during time-consuming repairs and troubleshooting.

AAMI HTM Resources and Strategic Initiatives Update
