HALF-DAY CAMPS

ARTS & CREATIVE EXPRESSION CAMPS

Arts & Crafts Camp

Join us for five days of arts & crafts, where campers will unleash their creativity and have fun doing amazing projects! Each day, campers will work on a new project, and will end camp with a collection of art pieces to show off to their friends and family .

Location: Old Settler’s Recreation Center

Fees: $100

Adventures in Art Camp

Young artists will be taught to create eight frame-worthy masterpieces by a professional certified Robert Garden Art instructor . Four different mediums will be used: acrylic on canvas, watercolor, oil pastels and charcoal to create artwork of animals, florals , and land and seascapes . All supplies are provided, bring a snack and wear an old t-shirt .

Fees: $65 to register / $65 to instructor for supplies

Creative Arts Camp

Campers will participate in various activities such as acting, arts, dance, and music . On the last day of camp, they will use the skills they learned to put on a showcase .

Theater Camp

Professional actors and actresses teach theater arts basics while focusing on a creative process that promotes oral communication, creativity, literacy, critical thinking, and movement Artistic instructors will facilitate the students’ creation of an original performance Students will receive a Junior Players t-shirt and certificate of accomplishment

Location: Old Settler’s Recreation Center Fees: Free

HALF-DAY CAMPS

DANCE CAMPS

Beyond the Barre Dance Camp

Dancers are taught the fundamentals of ballet, jazz, tap, and general dance education for each genre while building confidence and self-esteem in and beyond the studio . Dancers will participate in a showcase on the final day Fun crafts and snacks will be provided daily

Location: Old Settler’s Recreation Center

Fees: $200

Vivid Dance Summer Camps

Campers will learn terminology, body placement, movement, and choreography in a fun, themed and creative way . Dancers can dress up as princesses, wear attire for an African safari, or athletic clothes Fun games and crafts will be included . Camp will end with a showcase for parents at 11:45 a .m . on the final day . Campers will need a snack and water each day .

TECH AND LEARNING CAMPS

Science Explorers Camp

Young scientists will get hands-on learning from interactive activities that include forming hypotheses and observing experiments to exploring different parts of the world through the wonders of science .

Fees: $75 Resident / $80 Non-Resident

Finance Camp

Campers will experience the stock market by participating in realtime investing with the NYSE/NADAQ by selecting five Fortune 500 company stocks while also learning investment terms and tips in a fun and engaging environment . Future investors can bring their own device to participate .

Keys 2 Empower & Grow Camp

A new topic is learned daily using Keys 2 Empower & Grow’s fun, engaging, interactive web app that teaches the essentials for building a strong character Campers can bring their device to work on the web app, watch videos, play games, and participate in group discussions focusing on character building, manners, making good choices, and positive thinking

Basketball Tech Camp

Players of all abilities will develop and reinforce skills by participating in dribbling, passing, shooting, and rebounding drills and games

Campers will use coated foam balls to have fun, exercise and learn teamwork while playing different versions of the classic game dodgeball

Erwin Park Night Hike

Explore Erwin Park on the outdoor trail underneath the McKinney night sky while searching for nocturnal critters through sights and sounds! The hike is almost 2 miles long through some difficult terrain; plan accordingly . Please bring a flashlight

WATERCOLOR PAINTING CLASS

Develop your painting skills by learning watercolor techniques from an award-winning artist in a group setting . In each session, you will paint a different subject; no art experience is required .

A themed evening of music, fun, new experiences, and recreational and social opportunities for individuals with special needs, their families, and caregivers .

BE HAVE AND ACTIVE FUN IN McKINNEY

Adapted Aquatics

Learn skills for swimming, water safety, and interacting with peers through adapted and individualized teaching methods designed for individuals with varying abilities and needs . There is an emphasis on communication between parent and instructor to make the most of each lesson . Once you have registered for the class, call the Aquatics Coordinator to schedule an assessment for class placement .

Learn basic water rescues and elements of CPR while continuing stroke refinement to develop speed and increase endurance Students must be able to swim 50 yards front crawl, 50 yards back crawl and 25 yards breaststroke Students will be tested on the first day of class This is NOT a certification course .

All facility participants are expected to follow the rules of the facilities Specialty areas of the facilities (example: fitness center and the pools) have posted signs stating special rules specific to that area . Disregard or abuse of facility rules may result in removal by staff or police from the facility for a designated length of time or permanently

CLASS FEES

Resident/Non-Resident Fees

McKinney residents make significant contributions to the operation of this agency through the payment of property taxes These contributions are above the fees that they also pay for programs and services offered by the Parks and Recreation Department In recognition of this contribution, McKinney residents qualify for the “Resident” rate for all programs . Those who live outside the boundaries of the City of McKinney qualify for the “Non-Resident” price .

Proof of Residency

You must provide proof of residency the first time you register in order to receive the “Resident” rate Once you are in our system, you will not need to prove residency again unless your address changes . The only acceptable forms of proof include a valid driver’s license or state identification card or a current electric, gas, water or trash bill that shows your address Resident rates are only available to those who live within the city limits of McKinney

CHANGES/CANCELLATIONS

• Programs are sometimes cancelled or altered due to low registration, changes in staff or facility availability .

• If a program has been cancelled or altered, we will work with you to transfer your registration to another program of your choice

REFUNDS

• Full refunds will be issued for any program cancelled by the Parks and Recreation Department

• Participants may request refunds for classes up to three business days before the program’s first meeting or practice .

• Refunds for classes under $8 will not be issued

• Refunds for trips and contractual workshops will only be issued if the spot can be filled from the waiting list .

• A $5 administration fee will be charged against refunds for cancellations, including those due to medical problems, to cover clerical and administrative costs There are no administrative fees charged when a program is cancelled by the Parks and Recreation Department

• Fees paid by credit cards will be refunded back to the credit card

• Refund processing may take up to three weeks

By their use of the City of McKinney facilities, participants of programs and special events grant permission the City of McKinney to take photos and videos of themselves and their children for publication in the program brochure, website and additional uses as the city deems necessary, unless the registrant or participant expressly files a written request as to the use of photos or videos of themselves and/or their children All professional photography on city-owned property must be approved through the City of McKinney’s Communication and Marketing Department .

Waiting lists are automatically created when there are more registrations for a program than space Your receipt will indicate if you are registered for a program or have been placed on the waiting list .

Recreational activities/programs are intended to challenge and engage the physical, mental and emotional resources of each participant Despite careful and proper preparation, instruction, medical advice, conditioning and equipment, there is still a risk of serious injury when participating in any recreational activity/ program . Understandably, not all hazards and dangers can be foreseen . Depending on the particular activity, participants must understand that certain risks, dangers and injuries due to inclement weather, slipping, falling, poor skill level or conditioning, carelessness, horseplay, unsportsmanlike conduct, premises defects, inadequate or defective equipment, inadequate supervision, instruction or officiating and all other circumstances inherent to indoor and outdoor recreational activities/programs exist . In this regard, it must be recognized that it is impossible for the City of McKinney to guarantee absolute safety

Youth Benefit Fund

A Youth Recreation Benefit Fund is a fee assistance program for McKinney Parks and Recreation Department classes based on a financial need This program is open only to McKinney residents who qualify for their school district’s free or reduced lunch program The Benefit Fund is limited to $100 per child per calendar year For more information, call 972-547-7480
