CITY MB NEWS MANHATTAN BEACH DROUGHT-RELATED RESTRICTIONS In response to California’s persistent drought conditions, the City Council has declared a Stage 2 Water Shortage and imposed drought restrictions in accordance with the emergency water conservation regulations enacted by the State Water Resources Control Board. Effective immediately, Manhattan Beach households are limited to watering lawns and landscapes to two days per week for no more than fifteen minutes per watering cycle between 6:00 PM on Wednesday and 9:00 AM the following Thursday; and between 6:00 PM on Saturday and 9:00 AM the following Sunday. Under state regulations, commercial, industrial, and institutional sites are also prohibited from watering “non-functional turf” (grass that is ornamental and not used for recreation and community events) with potable water. WATER RATE INCREASE At its meeting on June 7, the City Council approved a change to the water rates effective November 1, 2022. The rates will be reflected in the January 2023 bill. Although the actual rates paid will vary based on water usage, bi-monthly water bills for average ratepayers will increase by approximately $24.65 (or $12.33 per month). PECK RESERVOIR UPDATE The Peck Reservoir Project is in its final stages of completion. Due to supply chain challenges, the anticipated end date for construction has been extended to Summer 2022. In turn, the

commissioning of the Peck Reservoir will occur sometime in Fall 2022. The new 8 million gallon reservoir seeks to enhance the City’s drinking water storage and system reliability to help ensure long-term dependability, balance the use of local groundwater with the current imported supply, and bring the existing facilities and equipment up to today’s standards to help protect the water supply and distribution for residents. This call to action is due to the recent sightings and reported activities within City limits. As City staff focus on a coyote management approach and educating the community through public outreach, we would like to remind residents to follow important safeguards to protect pets against these wild animals. Residents are urged not to approach, contact, feed, or attempt to capture the coyotes. Coyotes do not require open space to survive, and have successfully adapted to living in close proximity to humans. Coyotes are most active between dusk and dawn; however, they can be seen at any time of day. The following safeguards are provided to protect you and your pets from wildlife: • Do not leave small children or pets outside unattended. • If followed by a coyote, make loud noises.
