Sadly, Bob Woods an important member of the OAP staff, passed away in January. Bob started with volunteering at Joslyn and transitioned from volunteering to joining the Older Adult Program staff as a Recreation Leader in February of 2016. His energy, skills and creativity benefitted all. A wonderful musician, he substituted for the By Heart Music group and accompanied Acting Out Again. He facilitated the Friday Agility, Balance and Coordination class, even zooming it weekly from his home gym when Joslyn was closed during the pandemic. He was instrumental in decorating the Joslyn Center for the holidays and special events and arranging the lighting and sets for Acting Out Again’s performances. Bob is survived by his spouse Jim and is greatly missed! We are planning on having a celebration of Bob's life and will let you know when that will happen.
If you missed the Acting Out Again Joslyn Players Showcase "Let the Good Times Roll" on February 26th you can view it here. Go to your search engine and type in the information below. It will bring you right to the performance.

The storm has fled this winter’s day. The sky is deeply blue and still.
A few clouds rim the horizon line. They’re etched in gold.
They belie the gray we saw.
Every edge is sharply drawn. Every edge is true.
They do not waver or dissolve.
They’ve been drawn . . . with a razor.
Hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah

For several years the Older Adult Poetry Circle, facilitated by Bob Perkins has had wonderful interactions with Shannon Vaughan’s classes at Mira Costa High School. These programs have included collaborating on several books of poems, presenting joint poetry readings, and writing and reading poems together. This wonderful, creative relationship was expanded when some members of the Library Commission joined the Poetry Circle members and went to Mira Costa to Shannon Vaughan’s class on February 8, 2023. The students and adults created poems together from a list of evocative words and shared their works.
Transit Driver Appreciation Day, celebrated every March 18, is the time of year when you can thank your transit driver for doing their job well. You may not realize it, but transit drivers make a great contribution to the community. They ensure the safety of transit travelers and bear the responsibility of dropping passengers off at the right location. Moreover, transit drivers put aside their comfort to make sure the passengers reach their destination on time. If you rely on Manhattan Beach Dial-A-Ride to take you safely to your destination, please take a minute to thank your driver and your dispatcher on March 18.
