LET'S SAVE WATER TOGETHER
California is in a declared state of emergency after recording its second dry year in a row, calling for a greater push for water conservation. To contribute to the water saving efforts, Manhattan Beach is under a Stage 1 Water Shortage. In addition to the City’s Permanent Water Conservation Requirements, City residents must participate in the following guidelines: • Landscape irrigation using potable water shall be limited to no more than fifteen (15) minutes per watering zone per watering day. • Landscape watering with potable water shall be limited to three (3) times per week between: • 6:00 PM on Monday and 9:00 AM the following Tuesday; • 6:00 PM on Wednesday and 9:00 AM the following Thursday; and • 6:00 PM on Saturday and 9:00 AM the following Sunday. • This subsection shall not apply to any drip irrigation system, irrigation system maintenance, leak repair or new planting of low water usage plants or if reclaimed water is utilized as permitted by law. Another way to participate in the efforts to conserve water while saving money is through SoCal Water$mart Program. Property owners can receive various rebates for water efficient purchases, such as clothes washers, toilets, and turf removal. WATER SAVING TIPS More than ever, water conservation is vital to Manhattan Beach. As of January 2022, the City has entered into Stage 1 Water Shortage restrictions. 1
Cut back on rinsing water if you have a newer dishwasher. Newer models clean dishes more thoroughly and require minimal rinsing beforehand.
2 When washing dishes by hand, don't let the
water run while rinsing. Fill one sink with wash water and the other with rinse water.

Some refrigerators, air conditioners and ice-makers are cooled with wasted flows of water. Consider upgrading with air-cooled appliances for significant water savings. Adjust sprinklers so only your lawn is watered and not the house, sidewalk, or street.
5
Run your clothes washer and dishwasher only when they are full. You can save up to 1,000 gallons per month.
6
Choose shrubs and groundcovers instead of turf for hard-to-water areas such as steep slopes and isolated strips.
7
Install covers on pools and spas and check for leaks around your pumpsGarden.
8
Use the garbage disposal sparingly. Compost vegetable food waste instead and save gallons every time.
9
Plant in the fall when conditions are cooler and rainfall is more plentiful.
10
Replace old dishwashers with Energy Star appliances
