Summer is in full swing, and things are getting busy at the Joslyn Community Center! With limited parking and the Farmers Market happening every Tuesday, finding a spot can be tough this time of year.
If you’re planning a visit, we suggest trying a few easier ways to get here:
Dial-A-Ride – super convenient and easy to use. Call 310-545-3500 to register.
Carpool – team up with a neighbor or friend.
Walk or bike – enjoy the sunshine and skip the parking hassle altogether!
We know it’s not ideal, and we really appreciate everyone’s patience. The good news is that more parking is on the way, and things should ease as new parking lots are opened up. Thanks for working with us to keep things running smoothly at the JCC this summer!
We are adding 2 new Agility, Balance, and Coordination classes in July. Please see page 7 for more details. Shala Smith (OAP volunteer/SAC member) will teach the new classes.
When: 2nd & 4th Monday of each month
Time: 9:00am-10:00am

This class begins with stretching followed by mindfulness for 20 minutes. Stretching is vital as it lengthens and elongates muscles improving flexibility and elasticity. Stretching has many benefits including improving posture, decreasing back pain, and preventing injury. Our mindfulness portion will give us the opportunity to drop down into stillness with an emphasis on breath and presence. Mindful awareness adds insight to our overall existence. The practice increases vitality, encourages health and wellness, decreases stress, promotes inner peace and calm, and has even been proven to reduce blood pressure and boost immune function. This combination of stretching and mindfulness practice will leave you feeling relaxed, calm, and serene. Instructor: Timilie Losq.

Once they reach the city, the Nazis will stop at nothing to get their hands on the Louvre’s art collection. Anne is quickly sent to the Castle of Chambord, where the Louvre’s most precious artworks—including the Mona Lisa—are being transferred to ensure their safety. Thanks to the dedication of community member Catherine Null, the backyard of the Joslyn Community Center has been transformed into a vibrant flower garden. Over the past year, Catherine worked tirelessly to clear out old, dead plants and breath new life into the space with fresh blooms. She was joined in her efforts by Cyndi Strand, whose helping hands made a big difference. To make the garden even more inviting, Cyndi and her husband Geoff generously donated a picnic table, complete with a shade umbrella—creating the perfect spot to enjoy a quiet lunch, read a book, or simply relax among the flowers. Come visit and see this beautiful new addition to our community!
"Thanks so much to Steve DeBaets (Rotary Cares) for sprucing up the flower beds with a fresh coat of paint!"

We want to take a moment to say a big thank you to two of our Senior Advisory Committee members who are stepping down, Ken Thompson and Sandi Doell. They’ve been incredibly dedicated and have played a key role in shaping and supporting our programs over the past several years. Their leadership, ideas, and commitment have made a real difference, and we’re truly grateful for everything they’ve done.
While we’ll miss having them on the committee, we’re hopeful they’ll continue to stay involved as volunteers — we know they still have so much to offer!
Please join us in thanking them for their time, energy, and passion.
