Engineers Week

INNOVATION SPURS GROWTH

With National Engineers Week upon us, Feb. 19-25 this year, many engineers are exploring its theme “Creating the Future.” The need for innovation has come to the forefront as the industry is still in the grip of an employee shortage. New methods and processes such as mass timber construction and civil information modeling (CIM) are helping the industry to grow efficiently.

Schemmer is leveraging its partners in the construction and contracting industry to help navigate a volatile market by using design-build delivery methods on an increasing number of projects, according to Matthew Hubel, public sector civil engineering team leader.

“Having this integrated team established early in the process provides an excellent method to control costs and schedules,” he said. “We’re also seeing increased use of 3D scanning to gather high-quality data and the use of drones to gather data more quickly or in locations that are difficult or time-consuming to traverse.”

Creative Solutions

Due to inflation and continued supply-chain issues the firm is finding new and creative ways to help its clients and their projects succeed.

“We’re identifying potential risks and delays caused by these issues and finding opportunities to accelerate certain aspects of the project design to allow construction to start more quickly,” Hubel said.

“We’re preparing additional design deliverables to get critical-path materials ordered in anticipation of long lead times. We’re seeing constant innovation of civil information modeling, where more and more of the design and data for a project are performed and stored directly within a three-dimensional digital model that encompasses all aspects of the project.”

Kevin Wenninghoff, Schemmer manager of structural engineering, said the fluctuation in material prices and supply chain issues has increased the need for adaptability and creative solutions.

“We’re often working with contractors to consider alternative

materials for projects so we can maximize the value that the project brings to the client,” he said.

Technology in the engineering industry is always changing. That could be new analysis software, new materials, or new construction techniques. One exciting innovation from a sustainability standpoint is mass timber construction, which uses exceptionally strong and versatile wood products that are lighter weight but engineered for high strength ratings like concrete and steel.

“[Mass Timber Construction] has been gaining momentum for years and is spreading throughout the country,” Wenninghoff said.

Alvine Engineering is seeing a shift toward greater decarbonization — how engineering firms can reduce the carbon footprint of the buildings they are designing, according to Principal Steph Guy.

This includes considering the materials that are used in the manufacturing processes of building materials, driving energy usage as low as possible by using uber-efficient systems, and even considering proximity of manufacturing to where the building is being built.

“At the same time, we are being increasingly cognizant of occupant well-being,” Guy said. “Programs like the WELL Building Standard

encourage us to do things like provide water within 100 feet of each employee.”

There is also a bigger focus in the industry on smart buildings. For instance, how can engineers adapt their buildings so they use less energy?

“Lighting controls are continuing to get more sophisticated, and cyber security is an increased point of discussion on all building projects,” Guy said.

Increased Collaboration

The age-old delivery method of design, bid, build is becoming less and less common as building owners look to bring entire design and construction teams together sooner. This process, known as integrated project delivery (IPD), is becoming more widely discussed and utilized on different types of projects.

“We are seeing an increase in comments from clients that the quality of the submittals they are receiving has been declining, which they all attribute to resources being tight,” said Jessica Smith,

transportation group manager at Benesch. “Bluebeam Revu is growing in use, which can allow multiple people to review design documents at once, streamlining the review process. There is also a discussion about providing designs to contractors in model format in the future rather than put into design plan sheets.”

Smith said there is an increased effort to consider equity, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of this industry which she hopes is opening up and expanding a new resource/talent pool.

“I anticipate this can lead to more innovation as more diverse ideas are brought to the table,” she said. “Over the next year, increased funding is keeping everyone very busy, so resources will continue to be a challenge. Over the next five to 10 years, we will likely see a continued increase in measures to accelerate design and construction while reducing costs.”

The Greatest Challenges

Recruiting is Schemmer’s biggest challenge in the near-term, according to Hubel.

“There’s more work than there are individuals in the industry to

complete it right now,” he said. “We are constantly on the lookout for great people to join our firm. It is safe to say that if you are in the engineering industry, anywhere from a college student to a nontechnical support staff member to a senior-level professional, if you want a job in the industry right now, you can find one — or three.”

In the longer-term, the move away from fossil fuel energy, more autonomous vehicles, and artificial intelligence (AI) will be challenges as well as opportunities for the engineering industry.

“Our infrastructure is going to have to adapt to these emerging technologies that are quickly becoming commonplace,” Hubel said. “It will be exciting to see how AI develops in the coming years and how it can be used to the benefit of the work we do and the clients we serve.”

Guy said that the challenges the industry now faces are likely to continue over the next year. Firms must continue to engineer systems that are flexible enough to work within the current market. This means changing materials when something isn’t available because of long lead times. It means being able to change course on a project midway through design when a developer is pivoting on

ACEC/Nebraska has awarded Doug Alvine, PE, LEED AP, President of Alvine and Associates, with the 2023 Charles Durham Achievement Award. The award is a tribute to the pioneering spirit of Charles Durham, whose vision design that keeps the community and environment a foremost priority within building design.

their development plans.

“The challenges for the next five to 10 years will be continuing to drive the energy use of buildings down while maintaining healthy environments within the space,” Guy said.

The industry will continue to explore ways to reduce the carbon footprint of buildings and push the limits on renewable energy. At the same time, firms are continuing the transition from a 2D world to the 3D world.

“We could soon be constructing buildings without a set of 2D drawings and utilizing just a 3D model,” Guy said. “It’s a unique time in the industry where there has been unprecedented work while at the same time managing a global pandemic and significant supply chain and escalation issues on construction materials. People are wondering if there will be a small recession. Thankfully, we’re well suited here in the Midwest to weather different economic impacts.”

“With all of the changes and challenges in this industry, there is one thing that remains constant,” Wenninghoff said. “The health and safety of the public is always priority No. 1.”

INNOVATION SPURS GROWTH

Talent Challenges

Finding and hiring enough employees in this market requires significant time and effort. This can make it difficult to keep pace with a growing workload.

“The most important thing is to focus on the employee and what they are seeking regarding opportunities, career advancement, and career path,” Wenninghoff said. “You want to provide employees with support and help put them in positions to achieve their goals. Growing employees internally will in turn help your company grow.”

“Resources is the other trend that seems consistent among our competitors and clients alike,” Smith said. “It seems there may be a gap in the experience level around five to 10 years out of school that is a hard resource to find.”

Last year Schemmer launched the “Schemmer Gives Back” program, which provides a means for the staff to do pro-bono work for nonprofits in the communities where employees work, live, and play.

“The results of a recent internal survey found that the top word used by our team members to describe Schemmer was ‘Fun,’”

Hubel said. “At Schemmer, we pride ourselves on being flexible to suit the needs of our diverse staff and to allow their work and lives to balance. We also put in great effort to create a work environment where our team members feel valued and are able to meaningfully contribute to the firm and give back to our communities.”

The firm is now accepting applications for the second year of the Shemmer Gives Back program.

“The outlook for employment in the industry is very strong,” Guy said. “There are currently more open positions than there are young engineers to fill the roles, and this doesn’t seem to be slowing down.

“There are always going to be problems to solve, and that is what engineers do best. In the building industry there is lots of work to do. If we aren’t building something new, we are renovating something old to bring it to new life or retro commissioning systems to make them more efficient.”

Alvine is attracting and retaining talent by offering a great place to work with unlimited opportunities for growth, according to Guy.

“We are focused on creating a company culture where we work hard, have fun, do great engineering, and work on exciting projects in a variety of market sectors,” Guy said. “We are also active in the recruiting scene by attending career fairs both here in Nebraska and nearby states and being on the look-out for great interns.”

“There are so many opportunities for growth for those that are willing to put in the work,” Smith said. “You can advance and grow potentially more quickly as project opportunities increase in our industry. We are working on providing opportunities for growth internally so that employees aren’t as tempted to see what additional growth they can get elsewhere. We have internal training programs to help people grow at all levels of the company. The same opportunities for growth are also what helps us attract new talent.”

Over the next year, increased funding is keeping everyone very busy, so resources will continue to be a challenge.

Headquartered in Omaha since 1884, Kiewit Corporation is one of the largest contractors in the world. When the company decided to build a new headquarters, it decided on a north downtown location adjacent to its recently completed training center, Kiewit University, in part to encourage neighborhood redevelopment and reaffirm the company’s commitment to Omaha and Nebraska.

The seven-story 180,000-square-foot building and connected parking structure houses 650 employees in a progressive workplace environment that fosters collaboration and interaction to support Kiewit’s global operations. In harmony with the surrounding city buildings, the ground floor is clad in brick, enlivening the street. The glass-clad office tower above features an enclosed, elevated walkway connecting to the training center. The building configuration incorporates covered pedestrian plazas and elevated exterior patios for gathering.

The brick cladding evokes images of the turn-of-the-century warehouses that once filled downtown Omaha. Inside the building, the owner wanted a “loft” aesthetic to help recruit and retain younger employees. The steel framing remains exposed throughout most of the building as part of the “loft” look. Because of this, the team made significant efforts to provide a clean layout of all exposed mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and lighting systems.

In the office tower, the owner wanted as open a floor plan as possible. By shifting the core elements to the building’s north side, the team provided a 60-foot-wide, 250-foot-long, uninterrupted bay on the south side of the building, allowing for maximum flexibility in laying out the office space.

Three UNL professors named Nebraska Champion for Engineering Award winners

University of Nebraska Professors of Civil Engineering

Shannon Bartelt-Hunt, George Hunt and Matthew Williamson were awarded the 2023 Nebraska Champion for Engineering Award by the American Council of Engineering Companies Nebraska (ACEC NE) for their collaboration with the association and dedication to the profession.

“It was an incredible honor to receive this award,” says BarteltHunt. “As chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, I have worked closely with ACEC Nebraska on workforce development. ACEC is critical in helping the state maintain and increase our engineering workforce, and it’s a great recognition to celebrate our department’s role in assisting with this initiative.”

As part of their effort to support Nebraska’s engineering workforce, ACEC NE launched the Let’s MEET (Mentoring Emerging Engineers Together) Program in collaboration with the University of Nebraska College of Engineering’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in 2022. MEET’s mission is to support engineering students through their undergraduate years with mentoring and educational opportunities.

Professors Bartelt-Hunt, Hunt and Williamson were integral in liaising with UNL freshmen and sophomore engineering students and faculty and ACEC NE members to get the MEET program up and running.

“This program shows how much support there is for Nebraska’s future engineers from the professional community – it’s just unparalleled,” Bartelt-Hunt says. “The mentorship for our students is invaluable, and I hope this program helps us to retain more diverse engineers to help us solve the state’s future engineering challenges.”

ACEC NE Executive Director Jeanne McClure acknowledges that the association’s partnership with the College of Engineering is pivotal for solving the current workforce challenge.

“The MEET program is a partnership that will help foster the development of students into professionals, and the engagement of the college’s leadership is invaluable. Our hope is that this program will soon be implemented in all areas of the College of Engineering,” McClure says. “We’re excited to continue growing our partnership and for the opportunity to recognize three faculty members who have helped us establish the program.”

ACEC Nebraska established the Nebraska Champion for Engineering Award to recognize outstanding individuals and teams who have collaborated with the association to support the state’s engineering profession. The organization represents 48 consulting engineering firms in Nebraska, and its mission is to improve the quality of life in the state by strengthening the business environment for the consulting engineering profession.

Two Honored with Pillar Award

Roger Figard Honored for Service to State’s Engineering Industry

Roger Figard, Executive Director of the Railroad Transportation Safety District (RTSD), was awarded the 2023 Nebraska Engineering Pillar Award by the American Council of Engineering Companies Nebraska (ACEC NE) for his leadership and service to the profession.

“I am humbled and appreciative for this award,” Figard says. “There are so many outstanding engineers in our community, and to be recognized in this light is extremely rewarding.”

Figard graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. His career began with the Nebraska Department of Transportation where he served in a few roles. In 1979 he became an engineer for the Public Works and Utilities Department before becoming the superintendent of water production and treatment for the Lincoln Water System in 1985. In 1991, he was hired as the city engineer, a role he held until retiring in 2016. As the city engineer Figard also became executive director of the RTSD, a position he still maintains.

“I’ve always felt blessed that I never questioned doing something different,” Figard says of his engineering career. “What I love about engineering is that it’s about caring for people, communities and assets. Engineering is about life, health and safety issues, and building things that make quality of life better and easier

Dan Kutilek Recognized for Service to State’s Engineering Industry

Dan Kutilek, Douglas County Engineering and Planning Manager, was awarded the 2023 Nebraska Engineering Pillar Award by the American Council of Engineering Companies Nebraska (ACEC NE) for his leadership and service to the profession.

“I was totally surprised and swept off my feet,” says Kutilek, who has served as Douglas County’s engineering and planning manager since 1971.

Kutilek was looking forward to his career in engineering when he graduated with his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Nebraska-Omaha in 1969, but his plans were put on hold when he was drafted to serve in the Vietnam War. After serving for eight months, he was injured and returned to the US to finish his tour of duty at Fort Riley, Kansas.

“Military experience changes you, and it’s something that made me appreciate life,” Kutilek explains. “It was a life changer for the better. It has helped me be a better person overall.”

When he returned to Omaha in 1971, a friend of Kutilek’s recruited him for a

for people.”

Over his years serving the City of Lincoln, Figard witnessed growth and many changes to the city, but he has also experienced the evolution of the engineering field.

“The single biggest thing I have seen change in engineering is recognizing it takes public process to be successful in getting projects done,” he explains. “Engineering has evolved into public involvement and listening and evaluating different options by engaging with the public.”

He adds that some things haven’t changed, though.

“A commitment to ethics and building sustainable solutions has stayed the same,” Figard says.

Figard has been involved in many critical and life-changing projects during his tenure, the biggest of which was the Antelope Valley revitalization project, which spanned 20 years and involved strategic planning between the City of Lincoln, UNL and the Lower Platte South Natural Resources District.

Tony Dirks, Division Manager for Benesch in Lincoln and Incoming ACEC Nebraska President, has known Figard as a pillar in the engineering community for nearly 20 years.

“Roger has always been very passionate about serving the City of Lincoln with great infrastructure,” says Dirks. “He has been instrumental in building consensus within the community and navigating all the competing interests associated with private, public and regulatory groups. He’s truly a great engineer.”

Figard credits his success to his personal faith, wife of 50 years and their four children and seven grandchildren, and the great relationships he has built over the years.

ACEC Nebraska established the Nebraska Engineering Pillar Award to recognize outstanding engineers who have supported the organization and its mission, as well as contributed to the engineering community in the state. The organization represents 48 consulting engineering firms in Nebraska, and its mission is to improve the quality of life in the state by strengthening the business environment for the consulting engineering profession.

job at what was then called the county surveyor’s office. Kutilek was willing to give it a try. Now, 51 years later, he’s grateful he accepted the position.

“What’s interesting to me is at the county level you can make life changing experiences and projects and efforts that affect a lot of peoples’ lives quickly. What we do enhances lives for a lot of reasons, and that is rewarding.” Kutilek says.

Over the years, Kutilek has been involved in many transformational projects for the city of Omaha, including the 84th Street tunnel in the 1970s, Sorenson Parkway in the 1980s and the recent completion of the 180th Street bridge.

“Hundreds of other projects in between, some big and some small, all have a story, too,” he adds.

Douglas County Engineer Todd Pfitzer first met Kutilek in 1990 and describes him as a quiet, modest leader.

“He’s ethical, honest, hard-working, and he’s the type of guy who does whatever needs to be done, even if that is driving snowplows or doing maintenance work,” Pfitzer says of Kutilek. “Dan is an unsung hero, and I don’t think there is anyone else in our engineering community who would say differently.”

Kutilek also earned a master’s degree in Civil Engineering from UNO in 1980 and has been involved in many professional and civic organizations throughout his career, including the American Society of Civil Engineers, Institute of Traffic Engineers and the Nebraska Society of Professional Engineers.

ACEC Nebraska established the Nebraska Engineering Pillar Award to recognize outstanding engineers who have supported the organization and its mission, as well as contributed to the engineering community in the state. Leaving a Legacy

LAMP RYNEARSON’S NANCY PRIDAL FOCUSED ON THE FUTURE

Lamp Rynearson’s Nancy Pridal had what she calls a “clear vision” for the impact she wanted to make when she stepped into the role of president and CEO. She wanted to continue building the company’s legacy, and, by extension, her own. But, there was no roadmap; no steps to guaranteed success.

Her lived experience as an untraditional student taught her that being flexible would be essential to the journey.

“Paths are never straight,” she said. “I think that leaders have to be visionary, but they also have to listen.”

Building Lasting Change

Civil engineers are responsible for many of the iconic structures today, like the Golden Gate Bridge, Empire State Building and the Panama Canal.

Historically Lamp Rynearson has been involved with Rosenblatt Stadium, the Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium, Aksarben Village,

Midtown Crossing and more. In 2022 alone, Lamp Rynearson was involved with Omaha Public School’s Westview and Buena Vista high schools, the Crossroads redevelopment, the Market-toMidtown Protected Bikeway, Habitat for Humanity’s Bluestem Prairie Multi-Generational Development and ongoing work on the Capitol District.

“In infrastructure and engineering, landscape, architects, surveyors, planners, it’s what we design, what we create, that lasts for a long time,” Pridal said. “So how do we continue to leave that legacy?

“As a leader, that’s where I go back to is the values we define together. Then how do we drive that?”

Legacy of Learning

As Lamp Rynearson continues to evolve, so do the values that define the company. In the last couple of years it has placed greater focus on its DEI (diversity, equity & inclusion) goals and strategies.

Page 24 • February 17, 2023
NANCY PRIDAL, PRESIDENT AND CEO OF LAMP RYNEARSON.
LEADERSHIP
ENGINEERING

“It’s about supporting our growth in areas that we want to advance, and providing opportunities for folks to step into those roles,” Pridal said. “It’s about really reaching behind and giving a hand up, not a hand out.”

She said part of lifting others up is acknowledging that not everyone has had access to the same opportunities, whether that be attending a university or receiving a scholarship to attend college.

For example, Pridal explained how an internship supervisor impacted her career trajectory when she let Pridal work from home using a laptop. Being able to work from home helped her take care of her kids as a single parent, while continuing her coursework and balancing her internship.

“I had so many people who helped me reach the next level,” she said. “If we see the potential in people, and look at what they are willing to give, then we can help build opportunity for just about anyone.”

Two projects in particular, OPS’ Westview and Buena Vista high schools, added an additional layer to the company’s mission to create access. Lamp Rynearson acted as an equity advocate, fulfilling bond requirements that designated 7% of design fees to go to small and minority-owned business contributors.

ACEC of Nebraska recognized the Westview High School project with an Honor Award at the 2023 Engineering Excellence Awards.

Balancing Access

Giving a “hand-up” is something Pridal strives to do outside of the office through her community service on boards.

She currently sits on two advisory boards for the University of Nebraska: the President’s Advisory Council, and the College of Engineering Advisory Board where she chairs the scholarship committee.

“For me, education was that opportunity to change the trajectory of my life,” she said. “It’s an opportunity to give back to the college and to help support how the college and the industry thinks about

students and what their needs are.”

She’s also dedicating time to helping solve the affordable housing crisis through the Greater Omaha Chamber’s Urban Core Committee. On the committee she chairs the housing subcommittee.

“We’re really looking for what is affordable? What is workforce housing? What does market rate look like in the core,” she said. “And then what recommendation can we make to help support growth in those areas.”

Sharing Insight

In early 2022, the Lamp Rynearson marketing team approached Pridal with an idea for a quarterly product to amplogy their purpose statement: Leaving a legacy of enduring improvements to our communities.

“It’s not about the 100,000 or a million listeners,” Pridal said. “It’s more about how do we get our message out in a way that folks can connect with.

Legacy Listening was born with the first episode on July 5 featuring Shawntal Mallory, ESQ, executive director of the Nebraska Legal Diversity Council, and adjunct professor at Creighton University.

Subsequent interviews were with Jason Lauritzen, author and management trainer, and a special 2022 wrap-up with Lamp Rynearson’s Mike McIntosh, Sam Howland, and Kim Shanahan.

Begin with Passion

Building a legacy, Pridal said, begins with finding what you’re most passionate about

“Having a clear understanding of what’s important to you, what is near and dear to your heart,” she said.

Start there, and don’t give up if and when it gets uncomfortable.

“Standing strong with the vision and trusting that the outcome will be okay,” she said.

RACING TO MEET workforce demands

UNL COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING PUTS MENTORING AT FOREFRONT

Nebraska’s future depends on a robust economy with jobs that welcome college graduates that are experts in all industries. University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s College of Engineering is helping train the next generation of engineers to launch successful careers that not only build a stronger Nebraska, but a stronger world.

The College of Engineering is seeing rapid growth and with that has come new partnerships –– most notably with the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC). This is allowing students to receive real-world experience that will help them develop into well-rounded engineers that are capable of tackling projects of all sizes.

Workforce Benefits

The growth that the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has seen recently has pushed campus growth.

Lance C. Pérez, dean of the College of Engineering and Omar H. Heins Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, reported that this academic year the college’s total undergraduate enrollment is up 7% from last year (3,235 students). First-time freshmen are also up 8.4%.

The college is amid a $190 million facilities project. Financial support comes from the state of Nebraska, the university, and private and corporate donors.

The new three-story Engineering Research Center, which opened this past summer, showcases 50 state-of-the-art labs and collaborative spaces for graduate students. Currently, Scott Engineering Center is undergoing a 68,000-square-foot renovation to add more research labs and classrooms, and the $115 million Kiewit Hall is slated to open in Spring 2024 to serve engineering students at UNL.

With enrollment increasing, partnerships with organizations that help provide professional development tools for engineering students are key. ACEC is specifically working to support engagement opportunities for faculty and students alike by offering the chance to engage with industry leaders at events.

One of the most popular avenues is the annual Transportation Conference. The most recent workshop on the Nebraska Innovation Campus featured topics crucial to the transportation workforce’s future, such as infrastructure and innovation ideas. Faculty at UNL also serve as speakers or present research at these events and workshops.

“This type of commitment, especially with industry leaders presenting from the Nebraska Department of Roads and several consulting firms that do business in Nebraska, goes a long way to ensuring resources are dedicated to meeting the state’s engineering workforce demands,” Pérez said. “The organization also goes out of its way to host topical networking events to educate future engineers on important issues such as ethics in engineering and professionalism.”

The engineering faculty also works to give students experiences collaborating on active projects, exposing them to opportunities that exist in the field.

“The college and our faculty are dedicated to conducting research that makes a lasting impact not only for Nebraskans and globally, but even in outer space,” Pérez said.

“For example, Professor Shane Farritor and his team are readying a miniaturized surgical robot via a $100,000 EPSCOR grant for testing aboard the International Space Station. Our faculty provide numerous opportunities for students to collaborate on research in such areas as big data and the built environment – including transportation systems, biomedical engineering and health care environments, energy, materials and manufacturing, and national defense and security.”

LANCE C. PÉREZ, DEAN OF THE COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING

Opening Possibilities

ACEC also works closely with the Engineers Clubs in Lincoln and Omaha to raise scholarship funds that are awarded on an annual basis. In Omaha, the club awards one scholarship a year to a high school senior and an individual seeking professional development or career advancement in engineering. The Lincoln club raises funds to support a scholarship program through the University of Nebraska Foundation.

“These organizations are also supported by the same industry partners that support the college, so it’s a full circle investment by all parties to help assure student and faculty success,” Pérez said.

Engineers Week

Engineers Week, otherwise known as E-Week, is celebrating its 110th year in 2023. In conjunction with National Engineers Week, engineering students in Lincoln and Omaha join to celebrate their academic accomplishments as they work toward graduation and the launch of their careers.

This year’s E-Week will run from February 19 to 24 and a variety of events will be hosted on both college campuses. The events are planned entirely by the student leaders from the Nebraska Engineering Student Council at Omaha and the Engineering Student Advisory Board.

This year’s theme, ‘Blast Off’ will feature social events such as trivia and game nights, networking events, design competitions, and ‘lunch and learn’ events with local industry professionals and engineering organizations. Free food and other giveaways will be a part of the festivities.

“The college is very grateful for the generous support of numerous companies who each year sponsor and provide funding for E-Week,” Pérez said.

The following are some guidelines to consider when posting legal notices with the Midlands Business Journal:

1. Submit a written notice in either Microsoft Word or as a PDF document either through mbj.com or through the Legal Department at legals@ mbj.com. For trade names, submit a copy of approved (bar code in upper right hand corner) Application For Registration of Trade Name from the Secretary of State to the same email address.

Please include your billing address and the desired duration you’d like your notice to run (trade names run for only one week). As a publisher and not a legal advisor we print notices exactly as they are submitted and therefor only comp reruns when the notice was rejected or messed up due to a MBJ error.

All companies submitting notices are responsible for ensuring the content fits with the State’s requirements and are responsible for the cost of republishing the notice if it is rejected due to misinformation or missing information

2. You will receive a confirmation and price quote. Legal notices, except for trade names, are charged per line. The flat fee for a trade name is $50. Payment is now credit or debit card.

3. Deadline is 5 p.m. on Monday for a notice to start publishing that Friday.

4. All costs include fees to file the notice with the Secretary of State and/or any appropriate courts.

5. Invoices must be paid prior to publication.

The following are some guidelines to consider when posting legal notices with the Midlands Business Journal: 1. Submit a written notice in either Microsoft Word or as a PDF document to the Legal Department at legals@ mbj.com. For trade names, submit a copy of approved (bar code in upper right hand corner) Application For Registration of Trade Name from the Secretary of State to the same email address Please include your billing address and the desired duration you’d like your notice to run (trade names run for only one week). As a publisher and not a legal advisor we print notices exactly as they are submitted and therefor only comp reruns when the notice was rejected or messed up due to a MBJ error All companies submitting notices are responsible for ensuring the content fits with the State’s requirements and are responsible for the cost of republishing the notice if it is rejected due to misinformation or missing information 2. You will receive a confirmation and price quote. Legal notices, except for trade names, are charged per line. The flat fee for a trade name is $50. Payment options are cash or check. 3. Deadline is noon on Tuesday for a notice to start publishing that Friday. 4. All costs include fees to file the notice with the Secretary of State and/or any appropriate courts. 5. You will receive a paid invoice copy the first week it runs LOCAL LEGAL LEGAL notices Page 1 • October 1 2021 Scan the QR code or Visit MBJ.com to submit a notice.
