SESSION IV Wednesday, March 2, 2022 3:00 – 5:00pm

Life Saving Fire Protection and Prevention Strategies This interactive and life-saving seminar will feature two different perspectives in the area of fire protection and prevention. One perspective is from the safety side of the commercial construction space and will address the OSHA standards as well as overall jobsite safety. The other perspective will come from the fire services side of the equation where high-level strategies and best practices will be discussed. This seminar is an excellent opportunity to get multiple perspectives on the many topics, concerns, and issues surrounding fire safety, protection, and prevention that exist on a commercial construction job site. Presenters: Mike Whitsell | West Des Moines Fire Department, West Des Moines, IA/Brandon Black | Construction Safety Specialists, Inc. – Des Moines, IA

Elevate Your Game – Scaffolding Safety - (Spanish) All too often when entering a construction site, several unsafe hazards associated with the onsite scaffolding are visible. If observant, everyone at some point has witnessed scaffold looking dicey -- missing braces, planks split or even the lack of planking all together. This seminar will focus on the basics of scaffold, what OSHA requires, as well as the basic right to provide a safe working environment for everyone! Do you have to have base plates and mudsills? What about bracing? What does it mean for a scaffold to be “fully planked?” Find out the answers to these questions and more, as well as participate in a practical inspection activity. Presenter: Daniel Ramir | Latino Worker Safety Center – Chicago, IL

2 SAFETY CREDITS

Braving Safety – Venturing Below the Surface OSHA recently celebrated its Golden Anniversary; what a perfect opportunity to go deeper in your safety journey. During this interactive seminar, we will explore measures your team can implement to improve risk control and organizational outcomes. Attendees will learn valuable risk control techniques while addressing topics such as pre-planning - don’t get trapped, what you permit - you promote, and determining the “level of risk” and proper control measures. We will also dive into effective communication practices, being a “chain breaker” by preventing at-risk behaviors; the benefits of developing a utility locate and hit plan; and finally, being kind to yourself and celebrating small victories on the way to the goal. As a bonus, UFG’s Worth It Distracted Driving presentation, will be highlighted to help ensure you “Arrive Alive” for all those personal endeavors you have planned after the conference. 2 LEADERSHIP Presenter: Mark Pierson | UFG Insurance – Cedar Rapids, IA
