Identifying Cultural Hazards

When we hear the words “hazard assessment”, we often think of physical and chemical hazards. But what if the biggest hazard in your organization is hidden in your culture? Culture, defined as “the way we do things around here”, is created by your people leaders --- what they say or don’t say, what they do or don’t do. This keynote message will look at some clues that your culture may be contributing to safety failures. In this engaging, informative, and entertaining message, we examine the causes and what leaders, both formal and informal, can do to effectively change your current culture into a culture of success. A culture of success is one that maintains a balance of productivity, quality, and safety. This message looks at how the organizational leaders, from top to bottom, maintain this crucial balance through four elements: experience, knowledge, focus and pace. Being out of balance in any of the elements exposes us to an incident.
